Motivational Interviewing in Clinical Health Care

Course Overview This is a 2-day practical skills-based course which provides training on Motivational Interviewing (MI) techniques within a health context. Specifically, this workshop will focus on how MI can be used to help patients adopt and maintain a healthier lifestyle. Motivational Interviewing is an evidence-based, patient-centred approach for supporting behaviour change. It outperforms traditional advice-giving in the promotion of health behaviours (including healthy eating, physical activity and smoking cessation).

• contribute to the delivery of key initiatives such as NHS Health Checks and Let’s Get Moving Ongoing support is available following the course, and participants have the option of completing an assessment in order to gain Masters-level credits

About the Trainer: Lynne Johnston PhD, DClin Psych, CPsychol. Lynne works as a Clinical Psychologist within the NHS and is a member of the Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers. She has delivered training workshops in Motivational Interviewing and Health Behaviour Change strategies to a wide range of professionals across the UK and Europe over the last fifteen years.

• Traps to avoid in lifestyle consultations Learning methods include role play, DVDs, small group discussions and interactive tasks.

How much does it cost?

Fee: £335 or £550 (to include ongoing support and assessment) This includes tea/coffee during breaks and lunch on both days. All delegates will be supplied with a copy of the course notes.
