Shadowland: New Digs & A Play In Eleanor Burgess’ new play The Niceties, a black student visits her white professor during office hours to discuss her paper on the American Revolution. And when it goes public, what’s been said can’t be unsaid, and both women face the consequences. Originally premiered at the Huntington Theatre, Boston, before transferring to Manhattan Theatre Club, this timely new play, directed by Jammie Patton, is the inaugural production at Shadowland Stages new black box theatre, The Studio at Shadowland Stages, located

“Greater Tuna” in Goshen

Greater Tuna is the first in a series of four comedic plays about a radio station set in the fictional town of Tuna, Texas, the “third-smallest” town in the state. The series was written by Jaston Williams, Joe Sears, and Ed Howard. The plays are at once an affectionate comment on small-town, Southern life and attitudes, but also a withering satire of same. Joan’s “Collections” in Lords Valley

Joan Polishook’s latest exhibit of works, Collections, offers a wide variety of themes. Painting in oil, the artist expresses her love of nature on paper and canvas, her fascination with rustic barns in the rural countryside, her amusing character portraits, and illustrated poetic works. Joan’s work has appeared in newspapers, magazines and on book covers. Most recently, her oil on paper, Woodland Scenes, a personal challenge project during the pandemic, was

exhibited at the Wayne County Arts Alliance. Joan’s work is regularly displayed at the Milford Branch of the Pike County Library, with collections of her work in private, corporate, organizational and museum venues in the United States and abroad. “Stirring Performances of Rare Repertory” in Montgomery Praised for their “stirring performances of rare repertory” (Fanfare), the husband and wife team of Anna and Dmitri Shelest traces its roots to Ukraine’s prestigious Kharkiv Special Music School. At their Carnegie Hall debut in February, 2018, the duo’s CD release of Ukrainian Rhapsody brought renewed international attention to the music of their homeland. Subsequently, that recording has been featured as the Album of the Week on radio stations throughout the U.S., including WCRB (Boston) and KUSC (Los Angeles). Having been classmates since middle school, the artists began performing together after their marriage in the U.S. Their inventive programs brought them to a broad array of venues from concert stages to state functions, and, in the words of Secretary-General of the United Nations Ban Ki-moon, “realized diplomacy through music.” For the Grand Montgomery Chamber Music Series second concert of its 34th season, the duo will open and close the afternoon with two familiar works by Smetana (The Moldau) and Gershwin (Rhapsody in Blue) arranged for two pianos. Soylent Green (1973) is an ecological dystopian thriller film directed by Richard Fleischer, and starring Charlton Heston, Leigh Taylor-Young and Edward G. Robinson in his final film role. The film combines the investigation into the murder of a wealthy businessman and a dystopian future of dying oceans and year-round humidity, due to the greenhouse effect, resulting in pollution, poverty, overpopulation, euthanasia and depleted resources. In 1973, it won the Nebula Award for Best Dramatic Presentation and the Saturn Award for Best Science Fiction Film. OCAC’s “Night Song” Magical Gala The Orange County Arts Council’s annual art affair is a magical immersive experience. Guests will wander through a mystical world of enchantment, created from ethereal dreams of the night, with drifting songs filling the air. In a safe, ventilated and heated outdoor ballroom, attendees will enter into an ethereal world of dreams as created by artist Ed Manner. Fantastical works of art and atmospheric music will fill the space, inviting guests to wander and become part of the experience. Songs of the night and performances are choreographed by Ralph M’Vore.

Refreshments, including wine and beer, will be served. A silent auction and raffle will add to the intrigue of the evening. This is also a free-form event; guests are welcome to explore and enjoy Night Song for as long as they please. Your support of Night Song ensures that the OCAC mission to create, connect and inspire artists will continue long into the future.
