Tween S t a r A w ard s Girls are sent very different messages from birth than are boys about leadership, money, emotions, clothing, promiscuity and the list goes on. When a girl is told she is a “bad girl” for doing the same thing she would be praised for if she were a guy, it is a pretty heavy blow to a girl’s self-worth. Girls as young as ten years old are dumbing themselves down so they won’t be called “bossy” or a “know-it-all ”. We have young adult women baring it all in videos, crying out for the attention and shine they believe they will never get “playing by the rules”. For most adult women, leadership was taught to be a man’s sport with rules only a man could play. Most adult women were taught to take care of the home, take care of the children and to be a support to their men in leadership. Girls have been brainwashed by media--the music videos, gaming, magazines, by pop culture and by society to believe that our bodies are our worth. When is the last time you witnessed a fully-clothed female superhero? Our girls are routinely inundated with messages that they are objects of desire.

S h e kin a Mo o re h ad a dre am.... One day our founder was watching a documentary on girls that sparked a fire within her very soul. In the film the girls men tioned their looks over and over and over again. Rarely was there commentary on their talents, aspirations or vision for themselves. This--coupled with witnessing more girl fights and body-shaming than she could stomach--spurred her to make a difference--differently. In 2013 Ms. Shekina Moore founded Tween Style Power, a notfor-profit organization, with a focus on empowering girls with healthy body image, esteem and leadership tools through men toring and training. Offering free monthly workshops for girls ages 10-17, Ms. Moore and her team began the charge of com munity outreach and female empowerment. Based in Atlanta, GA, their trainings covered an array of topics from teen dating to drafting full-fledged business plans. After a year of successful training implementation, Ms. Moore began to receive emails, inboxes and messages from women desiring to implement a similar girls program in their respective cities and states. Women were seeking to give back and mentor girls but didn’t know where to begin or how to launch. They wanted Ms. Moore to mentor and guide them in how to implement a successful program, but she was busy ru nning her own. Fast-forward, another six months went by and the requests to train women from all around the coun try continued to come in. In June 2015, Ms. Moore acquiesced and Tween Style Power became B2F Girls!™, a certifica tion platform that equips women to launch their own girls empowerment programs across the country. In essence, the mission stayed the same; the how changed. One things that immediately became apparent in working with girls is that they are not cele brated for the right things. Young women shrink in the shadows because they are not expected to go into fields dominated by young men... and when young women do, they are not smiled upon. We want to change that. Tween Star Awards was born and the rest is history!

Not to mention co-own er Raquel is a mastermind seamstress of custom tutu creations for The Tutu Factory. She brings an artistic dimension to the business with her whimsical tutu masterpieces. They are based in Raleigh, NC but they will travel because they had their first event in New Jersey this past summer. It was indeed a great pleasure to chat with these ladies about the start-up of their business and what we can expect next! How did the Jumps-R-Us business begin? Christina: It was established 2 & ½ years ago when I hosted a birthday party for my god-daughter. I was approached by several people about buying a bounce house. So when the man sold his business he sold everything including the bounce house, food machines. Raquel is very artistic so she helped ex pand the business to plan parties. Tell us about the tutu creations and how has it influenced your business? Raquel: It started with one Instagram and Facebook post that led to creating tutu designs of all types of characters and designs. What are upcoming events you would like to share with our readers? Christina: We are open to all types of events currently we have harvest festivals and the events change week to week. What has been your greatest trial and triumph as business part ners? Raquel: It can be challenging when you have several big events on major holidays because it can be difficult to make everyone happy all at once. But it has been great being in business with my sister. What are your words of inspirations to female entrepreneurs? Christina: There is no limit to what you want to do. If you have a vision go for it. I never stopped thinking about new ideas it’s all about fi nding your groove and go with it. Raquel: Do your research, be cost effective, and make a plan so yo u can see it through. W hat u s ay - Let t ing My L ig h t S hine - r eca p WHAT U SAY....... This saying quickly became more than just a slogan on this night but words to live by. Having the distinct honor of meeting Herlene you quickly find out that she believes every one woman has a voice that needs to be heard. Herlene put o n an awesome Ladies Night out event complete with food, dancing, spoken word and massages by not 1 but 2 very gift ed ladies with hands of angels. Every woman that attended left with something much more than the gifts they received for coming or the gifts they were able to purchase from the delightful vendors that provided us with a ultimate shopping experi ence, they also left knowing that there was a release for whatever they may have been going through on that night and any night or day to follow. They quickly found that they were not alone with their situation and they do have sisters that have their back. The overall experience was awesome and I can’t wait to be apart of what she has com ing up next. Be sure to keep an eye out for this whirlwind of a woman, she is going places and you do not want to miss the shift. Look out for her next event and make plans to attend.
