DIANNE MAULONI VOTE

For MAYOR

I AM WITH YOU…NOT ABOVE YOU! Mob: Phone : 0412 580 220 a/h: 40 653310 Email: dianne.mauloni@gmail.com

About Me: I have lived all my life in Innisfail and being a ratepayer for the last 44 years, has instilled in me an ongoing interest in local council. Along with my brother and sisters, I worked from a very young age in our family business ‘Currajah Hotel’ at Wangan, washing bottles, bottling & capping beer, mopping out, spearing kegs and serving in the bar and it instilled in me a strong work ethic and a sense of business. I have earned a ‘hands on’ living with my family in a butcher shops, mobile butcher shop (covering country from Babinda to Cardwell), grown bananas, pawpaws & sugarcane and presently operate a fattening block at Mena Creek. Behind most farmers there is ‘a wife who works in town’ and I am involved in Natural Resource Management. Along with my husband Tom, I run a small on-farm tourism business at ‘Spurwood Springs’. I consider myself a good worker, determined to right ‘wrongs’ and a supporter of many community groups. I have a track record of speaking up for people and I am very approachable - (just…please don’t ring me when “Friday night Football is on”! No....I don’t hold a Uni degree….just ‘life’s experience degree’. Authorised D. Mauloni, 40 Robertson Road, Mena Creek for D. Mauloni (Mayoral Candidate – CCRC)

And NO….I don’t know everything and that is why the people have to come along with me! Why would you bother to stand for council?” some people ask of me. I always reply: ‘Because council business is OUR business and ‘anything about us, without us…is NOT for us!’. We need to put the right LOCALS into council or we are set for ‘four more years of the same’!

THE TEAM I SUPPORT IS > Elected Mayor + Elected Councillors + THE PEOPLE ! What about YOU? People have different issues that concern them ranging from road sides not being mown regularly, blocked drains, unaffordable rates, areas they say council is wasting money, concern with businesses closing in town, lack of entertainment for youth, dirt roads, lack of maintenance, fairness of work distribution across region, procurement policy, supporting local contractors, community safety (drugs) and much more. I am prepared to listen and speak up for you. Please…talk to me about your issues. ONE REGION…. A COMBINED VOICE… I am looking forward….not looking back. There is a lot that can be achieved on the Cassowary Coast TOGETHER and I am not one to waste good energy on things that cannot be changed from the past! THE JEWEL IN THE CROWN! RATES AND SERVICES: I KNOW others also are frustrated with rate increases, disenchanted with the services (or lack of), and feeling alienated from the council. I am quietly sick to death of hearing the word ‘sustainability’. I believe we need to be looking at affordability and concentrate on vision and plans to entice people to live and work here. You cannot ‘sustain’ a lifestyle if you cannot afford it! Is anyone listening to us? ARE YOU PREPARED to accept more of the same treatment? The ‘rise and rise’ of the cents in the dollar on rate notices has stymied growth. Real Estate agents tell of sales ‘falling over’ due to high rates compared to Cairns and the Tablelands. I have rate notices to support this. I led a Rates Rally over 5 years ago to the council chambers on behalf of Graziers from Cardwell to Innisfail and a Submission which was obscenely dismissed. I am putting myself forward now to represent ALL residents on the Cassowary Coast. Authorised D. Mauloni, 40 Robertson Road, Mena Creek for D. Mauloni (Mayoral Candidate – CCRC)

Candidates will say over and over “We need to increase the rate base”. But how? As I campaign

across the Cassowary Coast I will be discussing with people an Incentive Scheme & ideas for the region to attract people to live and work here & stimulate local businesses. What ideas do you have in mind? BUDGET: Council business (your business) is BIG BUSINESS. Availability of grants is lowering. The region, despite the horrific impact of Cylone Yasi on people & business, has benefitted from Natural Disaster funding to improve facilities across the region. Council has over the years had responsibilities of other government transferred to them. I have previously submitted a Petition to Parliament for reform to reduce Regulations by local councils. I would revisit this if elected. I am prepared to LOBBY Governments for you! Is it a matter of ‘you will conform and come along with us’…OR… should we be standing up and saying enough is enough and we cannot shoulder this / that responsibility! I am determined & strong to stand up for the people & businesses of this region. Council needs to operate a budget within ‘our means and capacity to pay’ and repay debt. Having said that, ratepayers and residents CAN NOT always have everything they wish for! What you take out of the Council pocket, has to be put into the pocket by YOU in the first place. ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT & TOURISM

My idea of economic development is assisting (not hindering) people in this region prepared to put up THEIR OWN MONEY for BIG TICKET ITEMS! Why has the area from White Rock (Cairns) south been allowed to develop on ‘prime agricultural land’ and YET we are stifled in this region? The growth of the region is paramount to reduce the reliance on rate income alone to run the council. Do I hear you say there is a problem with the Planning Scheme? COMMUNITY & ENVIRONMENT Residents are indebted to the tireless volunteers in the area in sporting /community & environment groups and clubs etc. What can be done to entice the next two generations to step up and take some interest in the events / festivals they and their family enjoy? Seniors: We all know that combined factors of low interest rates and high costs (electricity/insurance /rates etc) have many of our seniors and others struggling at a time in their life which should be stress free. Rate Discounts of course will continue. Safety & Well being: I grew up in an era where you felt safe to play in the neighbourhood & at night in town and all know that drugs are having a huge impact on our safety, family life and lifestyle. Please talk to me if you have any ideas in this area.

Authorised D. Mauloni, 40 Robertson Road, Mena Creek for D. Mauloni (Mayoral Candidate –CCRC)
