Premier Rachel Notley made the comment in her annual state of the province speech held last October 19 in Calgary’s Jack Singer Concert Hall. Premier Rachel Notley pledged that Alberta will “lead again,” despite the economic challenges it’s facing now. “We’ve taken some hard economic knocks from the international price of oil, but nobody knocks Alberta down for long,” the premier said in
, 2001, 2002 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012
her state of the province address. The crash in oil and natural gas prices has ripped a gaping hole in the government’s budget. Ten years ago, the province derived more than 40 per cent of its

revenue from royalties and other income from non-renewable resources. Last year, it was less than six per cent. “We can handle the current dramatic drop in government revenue — for a time,” she said. “But as our economy improves in coming years, the provincial budget is going to have to come back into balance. That means we can protect health care and education … but that also means we are very unlikely to have headroom for major new spending proposals until recovery arrives.” In her speech, Notley also stressed that while the government won’t inflict deep cuts to get out of the current
recession, public-sector budgets are at their limit and everyone must learn to do more with what they have. Premier Notley also says Alberta will roll out this fall specifics of its plan to phase out coalfired electricity and promote renewable energy. She says the program will include providing financial help to coal emitters to close their plants and transition to cleaner forms of power. There will also be details on how proponents will be able to bid into Alberta’s market to replace the coal generation. Notley’s government has promised to end coalfired electricity generation by 2030.

In these difficult and trying times. EDITORIAL BOARD
News reporter Mark Hodge of The Sun (A News UK Company) reported on Oct. 6, 2016 that “AMERICAN military bosses have confessed that World War 3 is “almost guaranteed” and will be “extremely lethal and fast.” Are we ready for this? Huff Post reported on Sept 22, 2016 that “Reuters spoke with about 40 analysts and found that the country’s (Canada) economic outlook is worse than it was just a few months ago — with two factors particularly to blame – oil and a softening American demand for Canadian exports.” In Alberta unemployment is front and centre among many
issues being addressed by the government. Are you affected by this? The major concerns above and many others (climate change, pipeline, Middle East War, and extrajudicial killings in the Philippines, etc...) are clearly way beyond our control. However, closer to home are some concerns that we can tackle given our ability, resources and support from the community. The two most common challenges facing our society today are domestic violence (breaking up of family) and strained household budget / finance.

Grand Parenting 4. Respectful- Depending on the situation and age of your grandchildren, there is authority with respect and understanding. Privacy is a big factor on this way. When the child grows, she/he will need some “me” moments, place or time. As I end these bits of information, here is something for you to think over and come up with what kind of grand parenting skills you may apply for your own grandchildren. What style do you practice in the Phil-
ippines that could be appropriate here? What types of skills will you use in the 3 suggestive parenting skills? Here in Canada, how will you use your parenting skills after I have mentioned the challenges? Finally, let me say that as long as you have mutual respect, understanding and agreement with your own children towards the rearing up of their children, you own grandchildren, conflict will not arise. Happy Grandparents Day to all!

Cyber Criminals on Facebook Victimizing Thousands of Filipino Women Around the World
(Final Part Investigative Report and A True Story by Marietta Pangan) October is National Cyber Security Awareness Month. FBI and other authorities are encouraging everyone in Securing Cyberspace and to participate as Cyber Security is a Shared Responsibility. As Print and Social Media Advocates, Diaryo Filipino would like to contribute towards the campaign on full awareness of this kind of crime that victimizes millions around the world in particular Filipino Women who fell into the web of deception by these heartless criminals. With ONLINE SCAMMING We Should Mind Other’s Business, Do Not Live with the Guilt and Save Millions. One of the best test of friendship is providing concern. If we made our friends aware that what they are doing could get them into trouble it is sign of loyalty and concern. When someone is scammed, they lose money. On top of that, most of those who have been scammed lost not only money but bring significant emotional damages some sorted into committing suicide. Be Aware and Be Informed: Pseudonyms Are Used by Scammers to Prey The perfect example of these scammers is the person using Eric Michael when i met him on Facebook. . Take a look at his stolen profile photos from an innocent victim. He uses more than a dozen names from Facebook and different online dating sites. Here are just few of the pseudo names: Crusoe Knighston, Christopher Burnet. Morgan Jones, David Terrance Carter, Wesley Brown, Paul Bartel, David Iverson, Brian MacCharthy,Robert Shackleford. Jack Moore, Richard Banner, George Miller, Philip Manzi. Cyber Crime Statistics and Magnitude Worldwide According to Pig Busters, a website/social networking site that dedicates their platform in providing awareness and information to spot scammersthrough scammer awareness initiatives.. Here are the information they gathered for everyone to be informed. Source: Pig Busters http:// www.yourittoday.com Scamming is Big Business In many places in the world such as Nigeria, Ghana, throughout Africa and Malaysia, scamming is not really considered a crime but a real job. We
have had many, many scammers tell us they can never be stopped and it appears they are correct. There are literally 10’s of millions of scammers with most having multiple accounts on the social and dating web sites. That adds up to 100’s of millions of scammer profiles on the sites. People somtimes ask “why do I seem to be a scammer magnet?” or “what is it about me that attracts scammers?”. The fact is scammers target anyone and everyone they can. They don’t care about race, religion, geographic location or how you look and since most social and dating sites are flooded with them, there is an almost certain chance you will be contacted by a scammer or two (or 100) within a very short time after joining a site. The Scam Business is Growing Scammers net incredibly billions of dollars each year worldwide and the amount is growing every year. It has gotten so popular that many “professional” scammers now teach courses on how to scam. They also go to school and take Linguistics courses to learn how to speak in different accents on the phone. Nigeria has been and is still the main region for scammers. Many of the Nigerian scammers or scammer groups will travel throughout Africa and Malaysia recruiting and training others. We have also found that they are now reaching countries such as India where we have seen a dramatic increase of scammers there working with the scammers in Nigeria. Scammers are not afraid of the police In the USA, Canada, UK, Australia, etc. drug dealing is a crime. Drug dealers hide their actions from the police, are always looking over their shoulders and don’t sell drugs (advertise) on the social or dating web sites. They also don’t brag about it on the sites because it is a crime and they know they will go to jail if they get caught, especially by posting very incriminating evidence online for all the world to see. Scammers flood the social and dating sites, post pictures of themselves collecting scam money from Western Union, brag about it on their social profiles and many times freely give their own personal information about where to send money. Would they do that if they thought there was a chance they
would get caught and go to jail? Would they tell Scam Busters when they get mad to stop warning people because it’s their job and nobody can (or will) stop them? The answer is NO because scamming is not really considered a crime throughout Africa, Malaysia and now many Middle Eastern coutries. Do not end up in jail Every day, innocent people end up in jail and have criminal records for life because they did something illegal when they actually thought they were helping someone. Cashing bogus checks or money orders then sending that money overseas is a crime whether you are aware you are committing a crime or not. Among other charges, you could be charged with theft, money laundering, wire fraud and in some cases sending money to a known terrorist supporting region. Law enforcement Since the scammers are overseas and in countries that do not cooperate with the US, UK, Australia, Canada, etc. there is nothing law endorcement can do, not even the FBI. They have no jurisdiction in those countries and trying to report the scammers to them does nothing but take up their valuable time. Instead, report the scammers to the Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3). They have an online reporting feature and will forward your report to the proper authorities if there is one. Somebody must pay the price Do you think the banks are going to lose money when you cash a bogus check and send the money overseas? Or do you think the retailers are just going to “eat the cost” when you receive and reship a laptop computer purchased with stolen credit card information? The answer is NO. They will look for someone to pay that money back and since the scammers are pretty much untouchable, that just leaves you to either pay back the bank or retailer or go to jail. Scammers do not care what happens to you once they get their money. You could end up in jail, loose your reputation, home, bank accounts and everything you have worked all of your life for and that “nice guy” in love with you when he wanted something WILL
NOT CARE. Warn your friends Scammer awareness is the only defense we have against these criminals. If you are on a social network or dating site and one of your friends is on the friends list of someone you know that has been verified as a scammer, please tell them or let us know and we will tell them for you. We have had many people who were scammed tell us “I wish someone had warned me”.

Mga Pagbabago sa Pagkakapantay ng Kababaihan DF
Veron Gaban
Naging bantog ang “The Persons Case.”

FCBL Briones Cup Opens 4th Season
Mediators do not take sides or try to get the parties to continue in the marriage. Mediators help you to identify the issues and find a solution-this can be custody, child support, division of assets.
Situation:
I’m so frustrated! I did not think my divorce would take this long and cost so much. Practical Solution: Mediation is a process which allows the parties to make their own decisions. The parties to a family law dispute meet with a trained neutral third party (the mediator) who assists the parties to negotiate their own agreement.
Jenrich- best uniform
Remember, you may not always get what you want but is it not better to be part of the process? You do not have to like your ex to have a successful mediation session. Mediation is becoming a more peaceful and accepted solution in order to end conflict. Cost While a mediator may charge a fee, the mediation process generally takes much less time than moving a case through standard legal channels. While a case in the hands of a lawyer or a court may take months or years to
resolve, mediation usually achieves a resolution in a matter of hours. Taking less time means expending less money on hourly fees and costs. Why spend all your money on court processes and paying different lawyers when you can resolve your issues using mediation. Mediation – less expensive, quicker and less stressful Are you living in Calgary and your spouse is overseas - contact us to find out how you can divorce your spouse if you have been living in Alberta for at least one year? Financial Opportunities are Endless with a Good Accountant

There is no doubt that Filipinos are one of the hardest working groups in this city. Making sure that each dollar is spent on the family, may it be here or back home is important to every Filipino’s budget. It used to be a common approach to handle one’s own taxes and financial planning. However, these days, Filipinos are finding more and more value in having a reliable accountant. workers from Calgary to Red Deer have relied on mobile tax services. Ensuring that taxes are filed properly means maximum return on every hard earned dollar. Yearly tax changes have introduced benefits and deductions. Many accountants spend countless hours learning and finding ways to maximize returns specifically for small businesses and contract workers. This is a specialization that is hard to find. In addition to personal taxes, small businesses are also utilizing accounting services to their advantage. With the recent economic downturn, many Filipinos have turned into small business. From one-man cleaning operations to busy Filipino stores, having the proper partnership can provide a steady growth. One of the biggest deterrents that immediately come to mind is cost. This is understandable as many offer costly prom-
ises with what essentially becomes an empty return. Finding the right accountant can be very tricky but once found, it can be very fruitful. For instance, upon interview, one may find some few secrets like: Many things can qualify and be deducted under employment expenses on line 229 such as travel, parking, supplies, workspace in home etc. Annual Union, professional or similar dues can be deducted on tax returns Certain tutoring services and medical expenses can be claimed on tax returns When finding an accountant, do your due diligence and see what they specialize in. When you find the right one, build that relationship and use the Canadian Tax System to ensure that all your hard earned cash is allocated accordingly.

There are many women who consider boxing, muay thai, kickboxing, judo, jujitsu or any other form of martial arts to be an intimidating sport. However, only a small number of them know that the training process is completely safe and what is even more important – extremely beneficial. This is the reason why many fit women that you see on TV are taking martial arts classes. Now let’s highlight some of the reasons why martial arts are good for women. For starters, this is a total-body workout which
means that every body part will be activated ad optimized. Furthermore, martial arts or any other form burns calories very fast and flattens your belly. In the end, many women love these sports because it helps them get rid of stress. Keep in mind that these are only some of the reasons why women should take martial arts classes.
Now in choosing where to do it?
There are many people who are interested in using martial arts as an exercise, but they are wondering whether they should do this at home or at the gym. The truth
is that every option has its own pros and cons. First of all, martial arts at home is much cheaper, doesn’t create any confusion and you can exercise whenever you want. However, this option requires buying equipment and doesn’t come with support which can sometimes save you from injuries. On the other hand, martial arts at the gym promises better atmosphere, access to top notch equipment, good trainers, and few other things. The distractions, lack of freedom, questionable hygiene and price are some of the downsides of this option. It is up to you to select the best option for you.

Philippine News: Very Good Rating For President Duterte’s First 100 Days About 7 in 10 Filipinos (76 percent) are categorized as “satisfied” with President Rodrigo (Digong) Duterte’s performance less than 100 days into his six-year term as conducted by the non-commissioned Social Weather Stations (SWS) survey, revealed on October October 6, 2016, Thursday among 1200 face to face interviews held.

When grouped according to region, a large majority (88 percent) of residents from Mindanao were satisfied with the President. This was also the case for those in the Visayas (75 percent), Metro Manila (74 percent) and the rest of Luzon (70 percent).

The proper handling of legitimate BALIKBAYAN BOXES. 20. Karaoke BAN after 10pm! Yes!
Here are the Top 20 Accomplishments that brought Digong’s 100 Gloriefied Days:
1. ALL OUT WAR on DRUGS.
Digong has such an obsessive focus on his deadly crackdown on illegal drugs, which became a hallmark of his 30 years political career. His public threats to kill criminals, especially drug dealers, have helped considerably reduce the crime rate, according to police. There is an approximate 700, 000 drug users surrender prior to apprehensions.
2. Taming Decades of Rebellions.
Duterte’s effort to resume peace talks with communist insurgents who are waging one of Asia’s longest rebellions has led to cease-fire declarations by both sides. With a cease-fire with the largest Muslim rebel group under his predecessor, the easing of violence involving the communist insurgents has freed up thousands of troops who were redeployed to execute the president’s order to destroy the brutal Abu Sayyaf group, notorious for kidnapping and beheading Western tourists. The September 2 bomb attack that took 15 lives in his southern hometown of Davao prompted him to declare a “state of lawlessness” to empower the government to harness troops in countering militant threats.
3. Peace Talk Among Leftist in the South and Fraying U.S. Alliance.
Digong’s unorthodox rule has pushed back his country’s 65-year treaty alliance with the United States while reaching out to China and Russia while has stirred a hornet’s nest by picking a fight with Barack Obama, the United Nations, the European Union. The United States has been a constant target of President’s foul tongue. He even has labelled himself as leftist. Duterte’s purpose on U.S.
These are the rest of the Top 20 accomplishments (not in order of importance)

Can an Independent Auto Repair Shop will Void a Vehicle’s Factory Warranty? Manny Perez WRITER
Taken ka nga, for granted naman!
OCTOBER 16 - NOVEMBER 15, 2016
The Filipino Canadian Newspaper of Choice in Alberta and Saskatchewan
The short answer is, probably not! Across Canada, each province has Automotive Service Professionals who are qualified to service any vehicle make and model. Car owners can choose any of these professionals to perform regular maintenance on their vehicle, and there is no risk of the work voiding any warranties offered in Canada. All you have to do before proceeding to have an independent auto mechanic perform work on your warrantied vehicle is to make sure they are certified Automotive Service Professionals.
The Automotive Industries Association of Canada says that to maintain the integrity of your vehicle’s warranty, just follow its terms and properly document the maintenance schedule outlined in the owners manual or your extended warranty coverage contract. So, now that we’re all reminded that independent shops who are Automotive Service Professional certified, such as Independent Shops are able to carry out work on you vehicle without voiding a warranty, let’s take a look at what “CAN” void your vehicle’s warranty. Street Racing or Extreme
W
Off-roading – Warranties are in place to protect consumers from such things like car parts that break down or malfunction too soon, and don’t make it past their prime with regular use. Any extreme use, such as street racing and off-roading can void most warranties. After-market Modifications – Upgrading your vehicle’s rims, ripping out a stock stereo system, or going with aftermarket exhaust is risky business is you are looking to keep your car’s factory warranty in-tact. But if you must have those tinted windows, make sure to review your warranty
package to see how this will affect things going forward. When it’s time to make a warranty claim, you might be denied coverage if the dealership can prove that an aftermarket part or modification necessitated the repair in question. Car Detailing – There are a lot of car wash businesses popping up around the province, but many of them don’t fall under the Automotive Service Professionals category, and if things go wrong, your car’s paint job might end up damaged beyond repair by your factory warranty. The touch-less car washes are less risky, but if this is a concern, think twice about your
approach to keeping a shiny car. Again, read your policy to be clear. DIY (do it yourself) Projects – It’s tempting to tinker with your vehicle in order to kill an afternoon and save a few bucks, and maybe even learn a few things along the way, but the majority of folks don’t fall under the Automotive Service Professional category and should best avoid DIY car repairs if their vehicles are still under warranty. For minor repairs, you might be safe, such as changing a tire or replacing a light bulb but don’t take something apart if you’re not 100% confident in your abilities.
WIKIPEDIA
Automobile A/C A company in New York City in the United States, first offered installation of air conditioning for cars in 1933. Most of their customers operated limousines and luxury cars. In 1939, Packard became the first automobile manufacturer to offer an air conditioning unit in its cars.[2] These were manufactured by Bishop and Babcock Co, of Cleveland Ohio. The “Bishop and Babcock Weather Conditioner” also incorporated a heater. Cars ordered with the new “Weather Conditioner” were shipped from Packard’s East Grand Boulevard facility to the B&B factory where the conversion was performed. Once complete, the car was shipped to a local dealer where the customer would take delivery. Packard fully warranted and supported this conversion, and marketed it well. However, it was not commercially successful for a number of reasons:
The main evaporator and blower system took up half of the trunk space (though this became less of a problem as trunks became larger in the post-war period). It was superseded by more efficient systems in the post-war years. It had no temperature thermostat or shut-off mechanism other than switching the blower off. (Cold air would still enter the car with any movement as the drive belt was continuously connected to the compressor—later systems would use electrically operated clutches to remedy this problem.) The several feet of plumbing going back and forth between the engine compartment and trunk proved unreliable in service. The price, at US $274 ($4,692.12 in 2014 US dollars), was unaffordable to most people in post-depression/pre-war America. The option was discontinued after 1941.

COLUMNIST
Mission, which means “sent”, is expressive of a maturity in the faith. Christian life is a life that goes beyond the self, beyond our comfort zone, beyond our racial or ethnic boundaries, beyond parish jurisdictions. Faith communities are meant for other communities. The Church has always sent missionaries, to “go into the whole world and preach the Good News to all peoples”. The original missionary is “Jesus Christ, sent by the Father, the first Missionary, who is the Savior of the world. He is the Way, the Truth and the Life…”
Jesus Christ has become “bread broken for the life of the world…” He is our Eucharist. As Christians, we become the Eucharist for others. We become Christ’s presence to others. As the Father sent His Son, so does the Son sends His followers. The missionary nature of our faith stems from the diffusive character of God’s love. The more divine love is shared, the more it becomes fruitful. It grows and develops as it gives itself away. The love it shares is the love it keeps and more… People who have decided to share their resources for the sake of the faith often realize that their generosity has been more than compensated. God is never outdone in generosity. He is generous
with those who are generous. As we celebrate World Mission Sunday this October, let us re-assess our commitment to share not only our faith but also our resources with others. We do this through our stewardship of God’s gift of life and its resources. Or is our faith not strong enough to feel the urgency to share? Is it too weak not to realize the urgency to share it? As we renew our faith during this year’s celebration of World Mission Sunday, let us make our own resolve to strengthen our faith by sharing it more and more in both little and big ways. Let us share more of ourselves as well our own resources with others, especially those who are in need.

All Saints’ Day / Lest we forget! Romy Honorio WRITER
On Sept 6, 2016 Mother Theresa was canonized (declared to be a saint) by Pope Francis. She was the founder of Missionaries of Charity and recipient of the 1962 Ramon Magsayay Peace Prize and 1979 Nobel Peace Prize. Her life and service exemplified selflessness and impacted thousands worldwide. From the Vatican sainthood (canonization) is a process that takes time and an irrefutable record of selfless service to mankind. On November 1, many Catholics around the world will celebrate All Saints’ Day. Historically, the event is celebrated to honour all the dead (saints known and unknown). Traditionally, flowers, candles, food and selfies (in today’s age) are the commonest tangibles present during the celebration. Typically, the
daylong event is held at a cemetery. Most Filipino-Calgarians have no place to celebrate the tradition as deceased love ones are buried back in the Philippines. One thing left to celebrate their passing is their memory. Commonly, what comes to mind are good memories and the legacy they left. What is ironic, though, is in this part of the world many immigrants are dying for different reasons that have no bearing on attaining sainthood. Many are dying to gain popularity, fame, money and power. Selfless service is a very rare commodity now a day.
Cooperation becomes competition. Generosity turns to jealousy. Unity breaks to animosity. Others die of natural death. Mother Theresa whole heartedly served many, died with dignity and was canonized without controversy. She didn’t aspire for popularity, money and fame. However, her memory will last for generations to come. To bring it home - as we celebrate All Saints’ Day, may we also be reminded of our veterans, selfless heroes who sacrificed their lives for our freedom. Lest we forget! (Remembrance - Day Nov 11th)

Pero end up, nag let go si lalake at hihintayin na lang ang babaeng tatangap sa kanya but with the same age as him. Pambihira! What if kung nagmamahalan naman talaga kayo?
MrLonelyM
Dear MrLonelyM, In my own point of view, hindi ang edad ang isyu dito but yung morality. Sobrang iba na kasi mag isip ang isang 43 years old na lalaki kumpara sa 18 years old na babae. Sa tingin ko, they would have great differences dahil sa edad. But for sure isa lang ang alam kong common sa kanila, yun ay ang mahal nila ang isa’tisa. But the biggest question is, how long will it last?
As a parent, malamang iisipin mo na mas marami pang pwedeng gawin ang isang 18y.o. na babae for her future rather than committing to a 43 y.o. na lalaki. Again morality issues. Of course, in love, age doesn’t matter. But in our society, age does matter- a fact and reality that we cannot change. Time is only in our minds (Albert Einstein). Kapag
So my advice, find your true love. So don’t give up. Madame KC
