“Diasporic Literature” Is s u e 5 - Τ ε ύχ ος 5

Diasporic Literature Spot continuing with its tradition of publishing the annual periodical “Diasporic Literature” during the last four years, calls on the literary community again to participate in the next tri-lingual edition that will be published in February 2014

EDITION THEME The main theme for Edition 5 of the magazine “Diasporic Literature” is: “Cyprus, the Island” Some of us carry fond memories of our visit to Cyprus, while others may have originated from Cyprus themselves. There is nobody in the literary community who isn’t aware of the perennial people’s struggle on this island, before and after the invasion of 1974. Cyprus has always been the target of exploitation by the larger states that surround it. It has a long history of devastation to its environment both in geological terms but also of its cultural inheritance. Every work submitted to the magazine should reflect or refer the difficult or the prosperous times the island has known. The theme is in line with the International Year of Small Island Developing States declaration for 2014 by the United Nations. The International Year of Small Island Developing States aims to raise recognition of environmental problems that small island states are facing. We feel though those environmental problems are also coupled by the cultural problems in this particular island state. As a result any work depicting the theme is within the scope of this edition’s project. All works will be evaluated on merit by the appropriate language committee representative before they’re marked for publication. The Editorial Committee’s decision is final.

MORE DETAILS We encourage writers to participate with any unpublished work wherever possible. However submissions will also be considered if they’re within the theme guidelines, and in any literature type (poetry, prose, essay, play, short story etc). No length limits have been set for each submission however an individual writer can only participate with up to four separate literary works. All works must reach our email at literature@diasporic.org by the 31st December 2013, or mailed to P.O. Box 2343, Caulfield Junction, Vic 3161, Australia.
