Air Force birthday celebration Friday, Sept. 18 - 4-6 p.m. Celebrate the Air Force’s 68th birthday with your fellow wingmen, shipmates, battle buddies and all other service members at the Charleston Club. We will host a C-17-sized load of great eats on the buffet to include fried chicken, barbecue ribs, baked meat loaf, mashed potatoes, sweet potato casserole, roasted corn-onthe-cob, baked beans cole slaw, salad, beverages, cake and ice cream. This feast is open to all military, JB Charleston civilians, family members and retirees. It is free for current Air Force Club members. Cost for all others is $14.95. Thursday, Sept. 24 - 5-8 p.m. Even though summer vacation is over, we wanted to prolong the thought of sun and beaches by hosting a family luau. This island-themed buffet will feature Huli Huli chicken and pineapple glazed ham, along with steamed rice, stir-fry vegetables, Hawaiian bread, ice cream and beverages. Everyone is welcome to wear their most festive Hawaiian shirts, skirts and sandals. This family event is free for Club Members. For all others: adults, $8.75; ages 6-12, $4.50; 5 & under, free. We play Texas Hold’em Friday nights!

Texas Hold’em has returned to Rookies on Friday nights. These are just-for-the-fun-of-it card sessions. No gambling of any kind will be permitted, including side bets and cash money, which are not permitted on the

tables at any time. Club Members play for free; all others must ante-up $10 per night. Sign-ups open for one hour starting at 5 p.m. each Friday. All rules and guidelines will be posted in the playing area. Spectators are always welcome.

Sept. 1 & 15 These one-hour orientation classes are required in order to checkout motor-driven ORC boats. Advance class registration required. Cost is $5. Before attending class, boater must take a free on-line boater safety course at www.boatus.org and pass with a minimum score of 80%. Call the ORC after testing to schedule an orientation class.

Local, group river trips

We have a great way for your office, group or organization to get together outdoors and just have a fun day on the river. These group trips can be with canoes, kayaks or a combination of both. The rates start at $40 per person, which includes all equipment, transportation and qualified guides. Trips can be booked for any day of the week. Homeschooler activities

Homeschool programs begin this month. Air Base programs are Wednesday mornings, with fitness activities beginning at 10 a.m., and classes (4-H, arts, etc.) starting at 11 a.m. Weapons Station programs are Thursdays, 12-1 p.m. Activities include fitness, technology, science, life skills and art. Air Base Youth Center With the holiday season fast approaching, baby-sitting is a great way for teens to earn income for holiday shopping and gift giving.
