A cup of coffee is delectable as it is, but even then, we end up adding a little cream on top to give it that extra zing! That’s pretty much what makeup does us - ladies. We are just as beautiful without makeup, but dabbing a little colour to our faces does, sometimes, do wonders to our confidence. It’s complicated.
Thankfully skincare is simple…or so you thought. Take a minute and read on because I guarantee you that you’ve made these mistakes at least once in your life, and it has cost your skin a lot. Healthy skin glows from within. So, never make the same makeup mistake twice.
Here are the top 4 makeup mistakes you are making every day: 1. You wash your face too many times in a day. Over-washing is a legitimate concern for your skin. Granted- cleansing your face is the first and the most important step in makeup. But overdoing it is a sin. If you apply foundation and notice dry, flaky skin, it is a sign that you have over-washed your face. Here’s the solution: Experts recommend washing your face no more than twice a day. They also recommend using a gentle cleanser.
2. You are using the dry shampoo incorrectly. When you sure dry shampoo, be sure to not spray it on too close to your skin. Spraying dry shampoo directly on your roots can leave a white powdery residue. All dry shampoo does is absorb the extra oil in your hair that may be making them look greasy and limp. It does not cleanse the hair and scalp of dirt and chemical build-up. The purpose of dry shampoo is to create the appearance of neat and voluminous hair. Naturally, as a product meant only for your hair, it isn’t very good your skin. The solution: Hold the sprayer 8 to 12 inches away from your hair, then lightly spritz the roots. Start with very little and spray on more later if needed. 3. You sleep on your side or stomach More and more experts recently have been advocating the importance of the right sleeping position. Turns out, sleeping on your sides or your stomach – any position where your skin is rubbing against the bed is not good for your skin. The solution is this - sleeping on your back. It is not only good for your back, but it also helps avoid lines and wrinkles on your skin which can develop if you sleep on your side. It might take a little practice, but I’d say it’s worth it. 4. You apply makeup on bare skin after washing. Classic mistake, but I get it. You want to paint on a blank canvas, and for artists it works. But when it comes to your skin, NEVER make that mistake. Only rare makeup products in the market work towards moisturizing your skin, and that’s because oily products can cause severe breakouts in those with oily and sensitive skin. Therefore, brands avoid adding emollients to makeup products. The best practice is to wash your face with a gentle face wash, moisturize it, and then apply the first layer of makeup. Now that you know better, I hope you won’t put your skin through any more trouble. Let silly mistakes not come in the way of enviable skin.
