SOME THINGS TO CONSIDER... NOTE: This is a more detailed guide to editing, following on from the activity guide for family vlogging. Suggested activity: TOUR OF MY LOCAL AREA. Go on a day out around your local town or city and take it in turns to film different landmarks, places you enjoy visiting, popular/quiet areas, or parts that you think tourists should/would like to see. 1. Once you have your footage/clips and you have imported it into your editing software, decide which ones you wish to include and delete any you do not require from within the program (they’ll still be saved elsewhere on your computer, phone/memory card). 2. Remember, you can trim and split clips to get rid of parts you don’t want Most editing software, even if fairly basic, offers a variety of editing tools. 3.Familiarise yourself with all the available tools and options within the software you’re using.

Colour balance – Auto – automatically improve video quality, Match Colour – adjust the colour of this clip to match the colour of another White Balance – correct the colour of the clip based on a point that should be white or grey, Skin Tone Balance – correct the colour of this clip based on skin tones. Colour correction – adjust shadows, contrast, brightness, highlights, saturation and temperature of your image. Cropping – choose if you wish to fit the full width and height of the clip on the screen, crop to fill the screen or add ken burns – this will allow to zoom in/out during the course of a clip. Drag the slider to 0% if you don’t want to be able to hear it at all. Noise reduction and equaliser – reduce unwanted background noise in your footage. Speed – change how fast or slow your clip is and add a freeze frame in the middle of a clip if you want to emphasise a certain image within the film. Clip filter and audio effects - edit how your clip looks (sepia, vintage, sci-fi etc.) and sounds (echo delay, shortwave radio, pitch change etc.) Clip information – basic information about the media including name, date and time it was taken and how long it is in your production compared to the original clip you imported.
