Miss Hattie’s

Restaurant & Cathouse Bar and Lounge

26 East Concho Miss Hattie’s located on Historic Block One, is the first building in San Angelo to be restored and registered on the National and State Registry for Historic Places. The building is the original San Angelo National Bank built in 1884 and is now the home of Miss Hattie’s Restaurant and Cathouse Lounge which serves lunch and dinner. Miss Hattie’s has developed a great reputation for their mesquite smoked ribeye steaks and hamburgers which were selected as one of the best in the state of Texas. The menu offers sandwiches, salads and other traditional West Texas fare. Friday and Saturday night enjoy live music in the Cathouse Lounge. Full bar available. Open Monday - Saturday for lunch, dinner, desserts or drinks. Open daily at 11:00am until the last customer leaves.

Fuentes Café

Downtown & Weekend Lounge 101 South Chadbourne For three decades they have offered “The Finest Food Around!”, Mexican and American favorites. Fuentes means “The Fountain, or The Source” and that is fitting, because many West Texas favorites began with our family recipes! On Friday and Saturday nights, from 10pm to 2am, Fuentes Cafe turns down the lights and turns up the music to transform into The Weekend Lounge! Open Mon-Thurs 8am to 9:30 PM, Fri & Sat 9am - 2am, Sundays 10am-2pm.

Stango’s 221 S. Chadbourne A high quality and vintage café serving the finest coffee and ice cream found straight out of the Heart of Texas. owntown San Angelo in the 1920’s was a time of pioneers who had the vision of developing a vibrant downtown with high-rise hotels, offices, banks and thriving entertainment venues making the city a regional hub of economic prosperity. Fast forward to today and through many economic downturns and shifts in growth to areas outside the downtown area, the forefathers of the downtown renaissance of the 20’s would not be happy to see how things have evolved with many of the buildings demolished, high rises that were once a beacon of society now vacant and deteriorated. But now, an aspiring developer, Mr. Khurram Syed, is providing new hope in turning around one of our historic treasures. This historic landmark property first development was the Nimitz Hotel in 1893, followed by the Landon Hotel in 1896 and the Naylor Hotel in 1928. A new owner purchased the hotel in 1955 and named it the Townhouse Hotel. Over the years the buildings current owners, reluctant to part with it, led to continuing decay. Recently, the building faced another risk or developers who did not have an interest in preservation and revitalization thought to have the building demolished for the land value alone. As the Executive Director of Downtown San Angelo, Inc. my goal was to find the right developer whose passion was for preservation, and economic revitalization of the downtown historic district. The timing was just right as Mr. Syed walked into my office and expressed his interest in downtown. Mr. Syed, a Southern California native currently living in Houston had his eyes immediately drawn to the Townhouse as we stood just

outside my office. (The building at the time was under contract and not available.) Mr. Syed specifically told me to follow-up with him as this was the town and building he wanted to launch his new historic real estate development company, Main St. Endeavors. Upon the building becoming available, I immediately sent the information to Mr. Syed as well as other qualified developers. Mr. Syed was one of the first to respond and traveled to San Angelo to make an offer. With a quick walk through Mr. Syed envisioned a mixed-use “lifestyle center” that would create a synergy focused on attracting a demographic that would find themselves coming to the central business district on a regular basis versus just for an annual event. By bringing together a variety of retail shops, restaurants, entertainment venues, micro lofts and a boutique hotel as anchor businesses. Mr. Syed closed on this property on January 22, 2015 and is taking the first steps at reaching out to the community. For this vision to become a reality we will have to partner with Mr. Syed and bring the community together to rehabilitate this historic landmark with key business and city leaders, and by forming alliances with institutions and organizations that will creatively fill the needed economic gap necessary for this project to be successful. Mr. Syed was initially drawn to our community because of the recent oil and gas boom. What he quickly learned is that San Angelo is the hidden jewel of West Texas and of the overwhelming hospitality he has experienced since coming to San Angelo.

NEW TECHNOLOGY AT TGC LIBRARY Coming soon! TGC Library will be providing Chromebooks for in-library use in addition to the many public computers now available. A Chromebook is lightweight and fast. It is simple to use and has built-in security. It gives nearly instant access to a world of apps and the web. Just sign in with your Google account, which can be set up for free. It uses Cloud-based storage and once you log out, none of your personal data can be accessed by other users. Chromebooks run web apps which allow you to create and share documents, edit photos, listen to music and more. A TGC Library card and picture ID will be required for a three-hour check out. You’ll also need your own ear buds when accessing sites that emit sound. Also to be available in the near future is an Ultimaker 2, 3-D printer, and an iSense 3D scanner. Library staff members are learning how to use this new

technology and developing labs and programs for patrons. Stay tuned for classes and demos coming this summer! Don’t be left behind technologically. Free computer classes are offered monthly on Computer, Internet and Typing basics; Word I and II; Excel I and II; Genealogy Lab; Publisher and PowerPoint. There is also a Computer Basics class in Spanish. In addition, there is a class on two of the many databases the library maintains; Atomic Training (hundreds of short tutorials on using a wide variety of devices and software) and Learning Express; an interactive learning and test preparation site for academic, career and civil service tests such as the 4th grade and 8th grade reading tests, postal work exam, GED, SAT and ASVAB (Armed Services). It includes practice tests, exercises, skill-building courses, eBooks, and information you need to achieve—at school, at work, or in life.

WELCOME TO THE 66TH SEASON OF THE SAN ANGELO SYMPHONY! Our 2015-2016 line up offers 6 subscription series concerts including performances by the 2013 Van Cliburn prize winner and pianist, Sean Chen and critically acclaimed violinist, Yulia Iglinova as well as the beloved Christmas Pops performance featuring local favorite Case Hardin. In a unique event, our season will spotlight a “Side by Side” concert in February as our symphony orchestra pairs with members of the “Strings Program” from Angelo State University and we will finish on a high note as we welcome Disney In Concert at the much anticipated Wells Fargo Family Pops Concert. The Symphony relies on the generous support of individuals and business in our area to continue the work of our organization as we strive to promote the growth of the performing arts and music education in our community. Partner with us and invest in the important role of music within San Angelo. Visit www.sanangelosymphony.org and sign up for our newsletter or call us at (325) 658-5877 for more details on our upcoming season.

SAN ANGELO CULTURAL AFFAIRS COUNCIL In 1978 a group of local citizens banded together to create an organization to support the arts and culture in San Angelo and the Concho Valley. That group later became the San Angelo Cultural Affairs Council. The San Angelo Cultural Affairs Council supports the art and culture in the area through the twenty-one year old Cactus Music Series, the San Angelo Artist Registry, the weekly newsletter, grants to local arts and non-profit organizations, and the longest running wine and food festival in Texas. The 31st Annual San Angelo Wine and Food Festival will feature two events in April, Uncorked! and the Wine Tasting Finale. The Uncorked! event is on Thursday, April 23, 2015 at the Cactus Hotel. It will offer fine wines paired with exquisite food prepared by local chefs and offer entertainment by The Divas. The Finale will be held Friday evening. April 24, 2015 in the newly AIR-CONDITIONED Fort Concho Stables and will feature entertainment by Vintage 15 and the opportunity for patrons to sample many wines, beer, and hors d’oeuvres. Visit sanangeloarts.com to sign up for our weekly e-newsletter or for more information about the San Angelo Wine and Food Festival! Cynthia Lackey
