Kids Eat Free....................................................6

I read a post on facebook that got me to thinking strongly about the Holy Spirit. The post read in part: “Tonight at church Something Supernatural happened that I have never experienced before. On February seventh, 2021 at 5 PM we gathered to pray before the service. As we were worshiping God, I was standing in the back when all of a sudden it seemed like the whole sanctuary was filled with the real Hardy deep beautiful fragrance of very strong cedar. During the whole worship service, I was smelling this strong fragrance. I went up to pastor Gary Schaeffer and asked him if he could smell it. Tears were in his eyes. He told me that he had hardly any sense of smell because of what he had just gone through, but instantly his nostrils were opened, and he could smell that fragrance. During the whole service, we could smell this amazing fragrance. Wave after wave, wave after wave. It would come, dissipate, then it would come again. I am not exaggerating in the least.” We should welcome stories like these. I have heard of gold dust appearing during worship. I have actually experienced Holy Laughter. Maybe we should begin to step away from religious tenets that hold our mind captive to what can be understood. In God’s Kingdom one plus one does not always equal two. Sometimes donkeys speak; sometimes the sun stands still; sometimes angels appear and give direction. These supernatural manifestations can only be experienced through the Holy Spirit. I want to live a magnificent Spirit-filled life! The Holy Spirit has a mind (Rom. 8:27), He convicts us of our sin (John 16:8), He grieves over our sin (Eph. 4:30), He can be resisted (Acts. 7:51), quenched (1 Thess. 5:19), He cries out to God (Gal. 4:6), He informs us and directs us (Acts 8:29), He reveals the Word of God in your heart (1 Cor. 2:10), Most importantly, The Holy Spirit glorifies God and declares that Jesus is Lord (John 16:14).

Line Up with God’s Word Pastor Roy Chapman Success is a place. As a child of God, you can place success in your mind right now. If you are going to be in the place of success, there are some things you have to step out and take. For every person that claims their successful place, there are stories filled with adversity, disappointment, and setbacks. If you place success in your mind, it will end up being placed in your spirit. What you place in your spirit will end up being placed in your life. It is important for you to understand that whatever you placed in your mind, meditated on, and confessed, God will help bring it to pass. You will have success whenever you focus on things that line up with God’s Word. Some individuals have had to overcome unfortunate experiences such as divorce, abuse, neglect, or sickness. Those situations could have stopped them from succeeding in life. However, one common thread runs through every story of success. No matter the painful experiences, successful individuals choose to let go of failures and past disappointments. They choose to step forward. You might say, “It does not look like it to me. Have you heard what’s going on with the economy or during the pandemic? Look at all the foreclosures and businesses laying people off. Maybe next year will be a better year for me.” Unfortunately, we live in a world where problems exist, whether we create them or someone creates them for us. Sometimes, it even seems like we have more than our fair share of problems. However, the Bible teaches us that even though we will have problems throughout life, there is a solution for every one of them. When you have a problem, it is important to look for Jesus in your problem. In order for that to happen, you have to believe that He is there with you; that He knows the answer. He will guide you through your problem from start to finish. Under the leadership of Pastor Roy and Sister Judy Chapman, Worship Tabernacle in Humble, Texas continues to remain faithful in their efforts to go to all nations, preaching the Good News, winning souls, and making disciples for the Lord Jesus Christ. With over 25 years in ministry, Pastor Chapman is the author of several books and he is passionate about equipping believers on how to apply the principles found in the Word of God so they can handle life issues and the stress of day-to-day living. For over 20 years, Sister Judy’s passion is writing inspirational poetry. She has written two books of poetry, Journey with God and Journey with God Volume 2. She is the founder of Empowering Women of Purpose Ministry that helps women understand their place in the Kingdom of God and who they are in Christ Jesus. For more information about Pastor Roy and Sister Judy Chapman visit www. WorshipTabernacle.TV. Worship Tabernacle is located at 3006 East Richey Road, Humble, Texas 77338. Phone: (281) 443-2357.

Podrías decir, “No me parece. Splendora ISD More Than A Score. Dr. Jeff Burke as Superintendent of Schools

I am honored and privileged to serve as Superintendent of Schools in Splendora ISD. Since I began in 2017, we have seen continued growth, faced numerous challenges, and created and fostered a culture based on our beliefs, values and core principles. We believe that as educators, there are only two things that we can control: the quality of work that we design for our students, and the relationships that we build. In Splendora ISD, we are more than a score. We believe that we are accountable to our parents, students, community and each other for fostering an environment where our students have the opportunity to explore their passions and dreams, and not be limited in those endeavors by what they receive on a standardized test. To that end, we focus on the strengths and talents of our students and our teachers, and we encourage and embrace innovation, design, and a focus on the future. At Splendora ISD, we make every effort to ensure that our students are loved and valued, and that they engage in activities and learning experiences that foster and build confidence, adaptability, perseverance, and self-motivation. We are proud to be a National Showcase District for our Capturing Kids’ Hearts initiative, which helps teach our students how to build positive, appropriate relationships through consistent processes used throughout the district. We want our kids to be able to engage with adults and with each other, understand the importance of advocating for themselves, and to be prepared to be a productive citizen when they leave Splendora ISD. We will continue to build student voice throughout our district, because we believe it is vitally important that our students offer their viewpoints and perspectives. After all, they are the reason we are here.

The Splendora Independent School District Board of Trustees appointed Dr. Jeff Burke as Superintendent of Schools in January 2017. Previously, Dr. Burke was the assistant superintendent of academics in Georgetown ISD in Georgetown, TX for two years, was the Executive Director of Professional Learning and Student Engagement in Alvin ISD, and was the High School Principal in Anderson-Shiro CISD in 2010. Born in Orange, Texas, Dr. Burke graduated from Hardin Jefferson High School and attended Houston Baptist University and Lamar University, before starting his teaching career in 1995 at Little CypressMauriceville CISD. Dr. Burke received his doctorate in educational leadership from Texas A&M University in 2015. Currently, Dr. Burke serves at the state level as a member of the Texas Association of School Administrators membership engagement committee, is on the board of the Texas Association of Mid-Size Schools, and is heavily involved in the Texas Public Accountability Consortium and the Future Ready Superintendents Leadership Network. He is also a local member of the East Montgomery County Rotary and serves on the board of the Greater East Montgomery County Chamber. Dr. Burke began his career in public education in 1995, and is focused on creating and facilitating systems that focus on student engagement through positive relationships and the design of meaningful learning experiences. As the child of two public school educators, Dr. Burke holds true to the belief that public schools are the foundation of our democracy, and that it is our responsibility to look beyond state test scores to the talents, hopes, and dreams of every child. He is honored to serve Splendora ISD as Superintendent of Schools. His wife, Kim, is a reading specialist at Peach Creek Elementary in Splendora ISD and together they have two children: their daughter Tylee, and son Beckett.

By Dr. Elizabeth Fagen, Humble ISD Superintendent Teachers make such a huge impact on the lives of their students – an impact that lasts forever. We can never really celebrate great teachers enough. That is why I was so proud to see the extraordinary way our community honored teachers through the Humble ISD Education Foundation’s Boots and Bling event at Stampede Houston. Ten Teacher of the Year Finalists received a Chromebook donated by Micro Integration. The runner-up for District Teacher of the Year received a $2,500 check from United Community Credit Union. The District Teacher of the Year received a $5,000 check from Robbins Chevrolet. Summer Creek High School Criminal Justice teacher Dwight Smith is Humble ISD’s 2021-2022 District Teacher of the Year. Dwight grew up in Houston’s Fifth Ward and saw education as the key to his future. Dwight’s drive for education continues as he is working toward his doctorate in educational leadership from Houston Baptist University. Dwight believes in connecting with students and giving them a sense of belonging as a family. He uses recent events to engage students. For example, Dwight’s students studied a deadly car crash involving a Tesla. His students debated the discrepancies between the separate investigations conducted by Tesla and law enforcement and crafted different scenarios of what may have caused the crash. Dwight takes his students on field trips to courthouses to watch live trials. His students also conduct mock trials inside a courtroom classroom at Summer Creek High School that was funded through Bond 2018. A mock courtroom is also being built at Kingwood Park High School. The mock courtrooms give students an opportunity like never before to reinforce what they’ve been learning in the classroom. Willow Creek Elementary School teacher Emily Porter-Roy is

Humble ISD Superintendent Dr. Elizabeth Fagen congratulates Willow Creek Elementary School teacher Emily Porter-Roy upon being named Elementary Teacher of the Year at the Humble ISD Education Foundation’s Boots & Bling fundraiser held at Stampede Houston. Amber Ottele, Vice President of Marketing and Business Development with United Community Credit Union (pictured at left) presented Ms. Porter-Roy with a $2,500 check.

Humble ISD’s 2021-2022 Elementary Teacher of the Year. Emily was born into a military family, and transfers took her family from New Mexico to Holland, Florida, and Ohio. She made her way to Houston for an educator job fair upon graduating from Bowling Green State University in Ohio with a degree in early childhood education. “I left every friend and family member I’d known to become a teacher,” she said. In 2020-2021, Emily taught virtually to kindergarten and first grade students at Willow Creek Elementary and Shadow Forest Elementary schools. Emily uses creativity when interacting through Zoom. For example, she wore an astronaut’s helmet as part of an alphabet countdown to summer. That day’s letter, “b,” was for “build a rocket ship.” Emily showed her students how to build a rocket ship with household materials like a plastic bottle, foil, streamers and clothespins. Organizations UNITED As One

by: Albert Melendez, Financial Specialist

Alongside the still on-going Covid-19 pandemic, came the Texas Winter Storm that hit us in March, 2021. Many families were affected in all areas but many individuals and organizations UNITED as one to give back to the community to help those in need in many ways. Through the outreach made by Albert Melendez, a financial specialist from New York Life Insurance Company and Jerri Bankston, owner and publisher of the whole Kid and Kaboodle magazine, a giving back to the community event was initiated and held in March of 2021. The event was made possible by the collaboration of Albert and Jerri along with North East Ministers

Association (NEMA) and it’s member, Dayspring Church-Pastor Oliver Stillwell. Kid and Kaboodle would like to give special thanks to Albert Melendez, New York Life Insurance Company, New York Life Foundation alongside with the partnership with DaySpring ChurchPastor Stillwell and Porter First Baptist Church-Pastor Rob Ray both, joined together with the Montgomery Food Bank and HAAM (Humble Area Assistance Ministries), in an event to give back to the community held on Wednesday, March 31, 2021. A true non affiliation of each organization but yet a UNITED force that made it possible to outreach about 1500 individuals.

A quick message from Albert Melendez to all: Braiding your daughter’s hair. Taking care of a sick parent. The promise to your baby that there’s nothing in this world you wouldn’t do for them. For 175 years, New York Life Insurance Company has lived by this belief — love is more than a feeling — it’s an action. Putting your love into action starts with a simple phone call to your local New York Life Agent, Albert Meléndez. He can be reached at 713-419-1734 or at www.NewYorkLife.com/agent/amelendez. He will make sure your needs always come first, just like you do for them. 22  Kid-and-Kaboodle.com

Siblings By Karen Branch Three minutes after giving birth to my first child, my wise old OBGYN says, “Karen, you should have your next child either less than two years or more than four years apart.” Though quite fatigued and rather exposed and vulnerable, I took him at his word and find myself at 43 with two daughters nearly four years apart, and a decade later, a son and another daughter 12 months and 12 days apart. In fairness, the son came free with the second marriage, and here are my secrets for getting everyone to get along. 1) Say it for them. Picture this. We are on a road trip. You forgot your wallet. You say to me, “Karen, I’m hungry…”. I could say, “I TOLD you to eat breakfast and pack a snack. You should be better prepared. It’s another 2 hours before the planned stop.” Or I could say, “I am hungry too.” Which answer makes you feel heard? Which makes you feel cared for? With a four-year-old and a newborn, when my husband would come home from work, I would, in fake desperation say, “Would you please watch the baby so Laura and I can go for a walk? I haven’t had five minutes alone with her today!” I said what she felt and even if it was only 15 minutes of “mom-time” she was grateful for it. 2)The baby belongs to the sibling. For my older two, when I would take the baby into my daughter’s preschool to visit, I would tell the other kids, “This is Laura’s baby. Only Laura can touch the baby.” Laura would beam in pride and possession over the adorable bundle that was hers. In the evenings, I would actively “complain” when Laura was within ear shot, “The baby likes Laura best.” What is said about us can have a far greater impact than what is said to us. Use this to your advantage. For my two Littles now (2.5 and 1.5 years old), I tell my boy that’s HIS sister. He defends her against the tickling fingers of an older sibling coming to get his baby. He asks for her first thing every morning and shadows every move she makes. 3) Keep things fair. Fair means fair regardless of age, silly as this sounds. From before the baby could even voluntarily or purposely move her arms, if she bonked her brother on the nose, I’d tell her, “That’s not nice. You are going to time out.” And I’d sit with her in the time-out chair. While that scene may seem ridiculous to you, it sent a message. “The rules apply to her as well as to you, big brother.” This is my first experience raising a boy, but I would like to say keeping things fair has made my days with both “Littles”, as I like to call them, much more peaceful. One final thought for when you are considering how much effort you want to put into your children getting along. One day all they will have is each other. If they grow up with fairness and friendship, they will have family to rely on in this world. Take that thought and my three tips and all my best as we navigate 2021 and beyond. Sincerely, The Obsessive Mother’s Guide to Parenting By Karen Branch Karen is a mother of four, a math teacher, a mediator, and the writer of The Obsessive Mother’s Guide to Parenting. This self-deprecating, tongue-in-cheek title admits with humor that we are all just trying our best to get the living embodiment of “our heart outside our bodies”, i.e. our children, to grow up strong, smart, and independent.

The Seashell on the Beach

Deborah Elum, Author & Speaker, and Producer I noticed a beautiful black seashell while I was walking along the beach in Galveston, Texas. When I reached down and was about to pick it up, a big wave rushed in and washed it back into the ocean. I knew that I would never see it again. It brings a question to my mind. Have you ever had something within your reach that slipped from your grasp? It may have been a job, ministry, home, or even an opportunity to get married. We all share this in common. We have had disappointing moments. As hard or unfair as it might have been, it is just one seashell in the ocean of life. One thing for sure, we must not let it cause us to continually focus on what was washed away. The next week when I went to the beach, I found a different black seashell that seemed to be just waiting for me to get it. That is how God helps us get over disappointments. He always has another opportunity waiting for us if we keep walking and seeking after Him and His plan for our lives. “For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.” - Matthew 7:8 You have a reason why you exist. Letting Go and Moving Forward Recently, we were preparing for a trip to our daughter’s home in South Texas, (a six-hour drive) when a friend graciously offered to fly us there in his Piper M500 airplane. On the airplane, my husband sat in the cockpit next to our pilot friend and I was in the seat behind them. During the flight, I noticed that the plane did not have a rearview mirror. I had never thought about it before, but I realized airplanes do not have rear view mirrors because they do not need them. The ground crew watches them on the ground. Air Traffic Control handles them in the air. Our pilot was only focused on where we were going. So often in life we look at what is behind us, rather than focusing on what is ahead of us. We cannot change what has already happened. All we can change and adjust are the things that are in the present moment. I watched our pilot as he continually checked the gauges and radar to see what was happening at this moment. All that matters is the present moment because it will impact your future. A pilot knows where they are flying to and charts the course. Yes, there are deviations and adjustments along the way because of turbulence or wind direction, but the end goal does not change. When you visualize a certain outcome and know where you are headed, the past becomes more distant. There will be setbacks, adjustments, and new approaches you may have to take, but you are still on the path to move forward. Develop a short-term memory when it comes to mistakes. Be sure to learn from them but don’t dwell there and let them paralyze you. Take the lesson and keep improving as you are taking more and more action. Stay focused on your course of growth, make the adjustments and deviations necessary, but never give up on your goals. Our past experiences brought us to where we are now. But we don’t have to stay there. When you arrive at that realization, it is easier to move on and leave the past behind. That is where it belongs. Bring only the lessons with you. Look forward and travel toward your future. If we want to fly we have to leave the earth, if we want to move forward we have to let go of the past that holds us back.
