Gazette readers will perhaps remember the launch of the Hampton Community Project Panel last spring when the criteria was agreed for awarding grants for community projects. As the Panel Secretary I have, since then, been sending our project proposal forms to local organisations and arranging Panel meetings to allow those who have expressed an interest in being part of the project to present their application to the panel. The opening budget for the project in 2013 was £5,000 from the Parish Council, boosted by a further £2,000 last autumn from Cambridgeshire Police. Due to high demand and the success of the project the Parish Council have increased their contribution to £15,000 this year and are seeking contributions from local organisations and businesses which have benefited from the project through reduced anti-social behaviour and the improved perceived image of Hampton. The first grant awarded was to the Hampton Friday Night Football scheme established by the HCSA and Cambridgeshire Police. The scheme which originally provided free football coaching to young people has now expanded to provide other sports and organisers have worked with Vivacity to provide dance based classes for teenagers. The scheme has recently been funded for a second year to ensure that it goes from strength to strength, building on its success by paying for training some of the young people on recognised coaching courses making it self-supporting. The Hampton Open Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme also comes up for renewal this month. Hampton College is the only secondary school in Peterborough that does
not provide a Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme for its pupils, so when the Panel was approached October to support providing training and equipment to set up a scheme for Hampton there was no hesitation and the young people attending have provided support for local charities and provided assistance for various events throughout the year. The Panel also funds the Hampton Cricket Club’s Summer Coaching scheme for young people. Well, not all young people like football, and as we have had both girls and boys attending the free weekly training sessions throughout the summer the scheme looks set to expand to older children next year. It is not just the young that have benefitted from the Hampton Community Project. The Hampton Seniors Sports and Social Club which is based at Hampton Vale Community
Centre has received a grant to allow them to purchase equipment and to fund transport costs for those less able who would like to attend. Building on links with Cambridgeshire Police to invite new members who are in a vulnerable position this group encourages self help and support within the group through increased social contact. They even have their own Facebook page, the Hampton Over 50 Forum to keep members up to date with local issues including Police alerts and public information from other sources. What has perhaps been the most important part about all of the projects supported by the Panel is that they are all Hampton based for Hampton people and run by unpaid volunteers with those benefiting putting something back into the community from community litter picks to helping out in the local charity shop, from learning new skills to help others in the future and supporting others within our community. No one is paid for what they do; these are all grants to provide equipment and / or training to allow those who are providing a service to do it to the best of their ability for the benefit of our community.
If you would like to be involved in supporting the project or have any suggestions for volunteer projects that will provide community payback for the Hampton Community please contact me by telephone on 01733 306160 or email hamptonparishcouncil@gmail.com. Facebook “f ” Logo

Annual General Meeting - your invitation
The Parish Church of Hampton
The Hampton Vale Community Association would like to invite YOU to their Annual General Meeting to be held on
TUESDAY 14th October 2014, 8.00pm at the Hampton Vale Community Centre.
Thank you to everyone who came to CSK on Monday the 8th September to celebrate with us at the dedication of our new building by the Bishop of Ely and the Bishop of Peterborough. It was a joyous occasion. A number of Hampton Residents have expressed a desire for a mid week Holy Communion service so we will hold our first one on Thursday the 9th October at 10:30am, with refreshments afterwards. All are welcome to join us.
If you are passionate about Hampton and would like to be part of a friendly team that all have a heart for the community and the Centre, then please come along.
As well as celebrating together, we also support one another during difficult times. As the Parish Church of Hampton we are here for everyone in the community during the highs and lows. Remembering and giving thanks for loved ones is an important part of the grieving process, and at our Time to Remember, Time to Give Thanks Service we will be doing just that. Whether you’re recently bereaved or have been bereaved a number of years, if you would like the name of your loved to be read out and the opportunity to light a candle in their memory, do join us at our service on Sunday the 2nd November at 3pm.

Hampton WI
Hello there! We have had such a great Hampton WI Summer this year, enjoying teacup flower arranging in June, a delicious Girly Cream Tea in July (where we had our wine in tea cups) and a particularly giggly August when we had our Cocktails meeting.
Hampton Health
Last month saw us decorating candles using napkins and tissue paper. But now those hazy Summer days are well and truly behind us so here at Hampton WI we are looking forward to a lovely colourful Autumn.
Influenza vaccination this winter Although it hardly seems possible, but the nights are drawing in already and it is time to make sure you are protected against flu this winter.
• Do you have Asthma that needs continuous use of Steroid Inhalers? • Do you have Chronic Lung Disease? • Do you suffer with Heart Problems? • Have you got Kidney disease? • Do you have Liver disease? • Have you had a stroke or a ‘mini stroke’ (TIA)? • Do you have Diabetes? • Do you have low immunity at the moment e.g. chemotherapy or some drugs or a previous splenectomy? • Are you a main carer for an elderly or disabled person? • Are you pregnant? Flu vaccines should be available from the beginning of October. We will be sending out invitations via messages on your prescriptions, by email or by text messages to patients eligible for vaccination and we have two drop in clinics arranged in October. These will be on Saturday 18th October between 9am and 11am and Tuesday 14th October between 5.30pm & 7pm. There is no need to book in for these clinics just turn up on the day and book in at the reception desk. This year a shingles vaccination will be offered for people aged 70, 78 or 79 on 1st September 2014. This can be given at the same time as the annual flu vaccination and will therefore be offered as part of our flu clinic. If you are still unsure about the vaccine then please contact the surgery and a member of our clinical team will try to help your individual decision. Parents often find it hard to decide if their children need immunisation, again we try to help. Children of 6 months and over can be vaccinated if they fall into one of the risk categories. Further information is available on our website www.hamptonhealth.co.uk

Mists and mellow fruitfulness
1
October: season of mists and mellow fruitfulness, as Keats describes it in his poem entitled ‘To Autumn’. He actually wrote the poem in the month of September after an autumnal evening walk. In it he mentions many of the changes that the passing of summer brings and celebrates the glories of the colours of autumn. The hedgerows are full of autumn goodness with the ripening of berries such as the blackberry and elderberry. In addition, the hawthorn haws and rose hips stand out in their redness. Many tree and bush leaves change from their late summer dark green to vibrant yellows, browns, reds and oranges. Trees such as the maple, ash, horse and sweet chestnut, acorn and sycamore give up their yield of developing seeds, either by use of the wind or gravity. Birds help disperse the hidden seeds in the haws and berries by consuming them and, through digestion, depositing them far from the parent plant. Both jays and squirrels are glad of the acorn crop as they gather these to see them through the harsh winter months. Craneflies, or Daddy Longlegs, appear in their greatest numbers around this time of year. Females can be seen bobbing up and down in grassland laying their eggs. September is also the time when the life cycle of the cranefly is complete and they hatch from their pupal stage to become adults. If the weather is favourable, for example, a hot summer, followed by heavy rain showers and then a dry, warm
September then the numbers hatching increases. They seem to appear as a plague around Hampton. They are purely a nuisance, though, rather than a threat, because they do not sting. In fact, they only feed on nectar during their brief two week life. What does sting, and becomes an even greater nuisance during September and October, is the wasp. As the queen has stopped laying eggs no further larvae are being produced. It is these larvae that produce sticky, sweet saliva that encourages the adult wasps to feed them with insects. As this supply of sweetness stops the adults look elsewhere for their sugar fix and this is when they become a real nuisance for us as they invade our kitchens, gardens and picnics for sweetness. This nuisance factor will continue until the colder weather kills them off, leaving just the queen to begin a new colony in the spring.

So, what is there to do in Hampton for kids? Probably more than you think... Crown Lakes is definitely one of Hampton’s main attractions, however this sunny hideway often gets overlooked. Situated just opposite Care Home, the site never seems to attract a lot of attention throughout the year. The perfect combination of accessible cycle paths, a stunning lake and endless open fields should make this a must visit for all Hampton Residents. This fantastic destination surely provides an excuse for a late summer picnic in the park. Start the day with a hearty cycle around the pictoresque lake, stop for lunch on top of the hill for a perfect birds eye view of the park below and finish off with an exciting, end to end game of football with your friends and family. The park is also far away from any roads so little ones can burn off any extra energy in a safe and fun environment. Crown Lakes may not be as large or as facilitated as some of the city’s other parks such as Ferry Meadows or Central Park, however it is still perfect for an afternoon stroll or a quick runaround. Crown Lakes will provide a superb afternoon for anyone, and it is right on our doorstep.

Roadshow success for Regal Park
Marsh Harrier by Edwyn Anderton
Living in Hampton
Peterborough’s newest estate agent is going from strength to strength after its successful property event at Serpentine Green. Based in Hampton, the company is fast becoming a major player in Peterborough’s housing market, due to its first-class service, competitive rates and added extras. James Trigg, Director, said: “The Regal Park Roadshow was a fantastic chance to connect with people, to find out what they expect from their estate agent and show what we can offer. As well as chatting to the Regal Park team, visitors also had the chance to meet representatives from Barratt Homes and Taylor Rose Law. Hampton is currently Peterborough’s property hotspot due to its thriving housing market and expansion. It’s great to be able to offer local residents a new choice when choosing an estate agent. At Regal Park we pride ourselves on our efficient service.

Your guide to
Wild about Hampton Two decades after the first bricks were laid, thousands of people now call Hampton home. But did you know human residents are outnumbered millions of times over by the wildlife that has also made Hampton home. What to look out for
“The Hamptons must be one of the most wildlife rich areas in Cambridgeshire,” says Ecologist Peter Shepherd. “It has both locally and internationally important sites for nature.
You don’t need to be an expert to enjoy this variety of wildlife since the open spaces are so much a part of Hampton life.
“Over the last two years there have been a whole raft of wildlife studies carried out over the Hampton area and these have shown that it supports an extraordinary variety of habitats and species including a number that are rare, threatened or a priority for conservation.”
But it can help to know what you are looking out for, so here are just a few of Hampton’s wildlife highlights. Do let us know via the Hampton Gazette Facebook page, and the Hampton interactive map, where you have spotted something of interest. www.ohhampton.co.uk
According to Peter, a partner at BSG Ecology, it is the sheer range of habitats that has helped put Hampton on the wildlife map – some historic such as the old industrial landscape - but the majority such as wildflower meadows, ponds, reedbeds and woodlands, designed into the development from the start by O&H.
• Feathered friends: Hampton is a good place to see wintering birds, including an impressive list of birds of prey. Marsh harriers and red kites have been spotted, perhaps attracted by the equally striking formations of starlings, weaving patterns against a winter sky at dusk. On Hampton’s waters wintering waders include lapwing and golden plover. And when spring comes again the area can boast an impressive 60-70 species of bird breeding – including some which are now on the conservation red-list such as turtle doves, skylarks and linnets.
This summer the latest of these surveys has been taking place, involving a study of bugs and moths which are trapped, identified and released by experts from the charity Buglife on a site that’s been especially enhanced to encourage insects. Buglife hopes the results may help them reverse the trend of species loss in other parts of the country. Annual beard grass
• Amazing newts: One of Hampton’s biggest conservation success stories is the population of great crested newts living in the distinctive network of 300 ponds in Hampton Nature Reserve. Surveys by the charity Froglife – who manage the reserve for O&H – show that over the last 10 years the newt population has expanded by 40% to around 34,000 – making it one of Europe’s largest populations of this protected species. As a result the reserve has been designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest and the only way to enjoy it is on one of Froglife’s guided walks, or by volunteering with the charity.
Each month we’ll be partnering with O&H Hampton to focus on one or two aspects of Hampton life.
• Plant yourself here: Another success story has been plantlife. The rarest of these is the wonderfully named bearded stonewort but Hampton can also boast colonies of annual beard grass and brookweed – both of which are usually found near the sea. Ecologists believe their presence may be down to the area’s former life as clay pits, whose clay soils had a high salt content.

So if you’ve not added yourselves to the Hampton map’s lengthening list of who, what, where and whens head over now to www.ohhampton.co.uk . It’s simple to do and is another way to help people find you.

The common law wife and other stories
Hampton Community Park
The Common law wife is dead – no sorry, she never existed. Apologies to all those women out there and yes,(it is nearly always the woman) who have brought up children and run homes for years but not made it to the altar with their common law husband – or the registry office or hotel or wherever people are getting married nowadays.
Official opening
Hampton Community Park was officially opened recently by Councillor Nigel North.
And yes, the number of marriages is falling and as a consequence, the number of divorces. But does that mean there are less couples living together, with or without children, or less relationship breakdowns?
The idea of two Hampton school students, Harry Cooper and Joe Wright, then aged ten and eleven, the park has been three years in the planning. Harry and Joe’s original idea was for a skate park, which hopefully will still come to fruition, but with the site next to Hampton College being available the two boys went ahead to provide a community park as well.
Of course not. Human nature remains pretty constant, whilst social conventions develop and change with the times. If you are married you have the protection of the Matrimonial Causes Act 1973 and the wealth of case law that has built up since. Divorce law is often seen as a charter for wives, leaving the poor old husband impoverished and cut off from the kids.
They asked the community what they wanted to see in such a park and then worked with Peterborough City Council, Hampton Parish Council, O & H Hampton, the Police and other agencies to plan and raise the considerable sum of money that was required. Their dedication and hard work has paid off with a park which is rarely empty and which provides everyone with opportunities for exercise.
In fact the principles applied to the division of matrimonial assets on divorce, are to achieve equality, with adjustments either way according to who needs what to set up new homes and survive apart.

Very different to cohabiting relationships. There is virtually no legal protection for the separating couple, unless there are children involved and then only on a time-limited basis, until they finish school.
Thanks go to Hampton Events Committee and Tesco for their generous donation of refreshments at the opening of the park in September.
Why is this? It’s down to public policy really – successive governments don’t have the stomach to confront the traditionalists and effectively demote marriage. So what can be done? A Cohabitation Agreement will cover the whole range of aspects of living together, particularly the ownership of your home, which is usually the major asset. It may be advisable to draw up a Trust Deed to specify the terms of ownership for now and the future.

Update from Hampton Police
The Duke of Edinburgh awards team
Hampton DofE group have carried out their Bronze assessed and practice expeditions in recent weeks, set in Rutland The teams were practicing team working, navigation and camp skills to carry forward to their assessed expedition of which they planned. The routes and route cards were drawn up by the teams and left Wakerley Woods and Ketton on the Saturday morning for their assessment. Throughout the day, both teams came across challenges such as blocked off routes, getting lost and group decisions whilst completing their aim. One team set out to compare the environment from day one to day two. The two day, one night expedition tested each individual and everyone had their own unique challenges throughout their journey. The expedition finished with a presentation on their findings. Dan Keen, assessing the groups, passed the teams on their expeditions and presentations. A third group is setting out in late September to carry out their assessment. The teams now await the presentation evening on 26th November at Peterborough Town Hall to receive their certificates, once all of their volunteering, skills & physical sections are signed off.

Hampton Netball Clubs Fundraising Update Hampton Ladies Netball Club have been busy continuing to raise funds for Sue Ryder Thorpe Hall. As well as running monthly match nights some of the club members gave up their Saturday evening to sell raffle tickets at The Peterborough Greyhound Stadium in August and managed to raise a whopping £604.00!! This amount added to the funds already raised from the Tea party held in June, world cup sweepstake, a stall at the school fete, sky dives by three club members and a personal donation brings the grand total so far to almost £2,000. This is a fantastic amount raised in only a couple of months and with events

Hampton Netball Clubs U16’s junior team ‘Leopards’ were invited by ex England player Alex Astle to attend the final Sportivate session at Thomas Deacon Academy in September. Alex had been running these netball training sessions throughout the summer holidays as part of the ‘Sportivate’ programme encouraging girls who don’t currently play netball to go along and have a go. Leopards were there to take part in match play and to also chat to the girls in the programme about their love of netball and to try and encourage the girls to continue. The final session promised an appearance by a Sporting Champion, and the girls were delighted that it was attended byHertfordshire Mavericks and England player Lindsay Keable who often paused the match play to share her knowledge. A well organised evening and a fantastic experience for the girls.

Hampton Pets
Preventing poisoning of pets Vets are often contacted by owners who are concerned that their pets have ingested something they shouldn’t have, that is potentially harmful or even poisonous. So here are some tips on how to reduce the risk of accidental poisoning and what to do if you suspect your pet has ingested a potential poison. Reducing the risks of accidental poisoning: • Keep human and animal medicines separate and out of reach to avoid accidentally giving the wrong medicine. For example, even small doses of Paracetamol can kill if given to a pet • Keep chemicals out of reach, including cleaning products, DIY products, fuel, oil, lubricants, anti-freeze etc… • Never give animal’s medicines intended for humans. Only give medicines prescribed by your vet, in the dosages prescribed by your vet
ns, avocados, Chocolate, onio uorice and grapes, raisins, liq name just a certain nuts, to d potentially few, are toxic an fatal to animals!
• Be selective with plants and flowers. For example, some types of lilies are poisonous to cats • Alert neighbours that you have pets and ask them to notify you if they are using products that could be harmful to them such as lawn feed, anti-freeze etc… • Foods such as chocolate, onions, avocados, grapes, raisins, liquorice and certain nuts, to name just a few, are toxic and potentially fatal to animals. You are always best to avoid feeding human food to pets and sticking with food that is formulated for their specific species.
Suspect your pet has ingested a poisonous substance?: • Call your vets immediately! • The more accurate you can be with what, when and how much has been ingested the better. Have any packaging with you when you call so you can quickly provide information on products active ingredients. • The vet will then be able to confirm if the food/ chemical/medicine is harmful and advise you if your pet requires immediate attention from a vet.
T: 01733 889 236
...your pets this November! Remember remember... Fireworks are enjoyed year-round by people
but can be a source of fear for many animals. It doesn’t have to be that way though, so don’t ignore the problem. Seek advice from your vet who will if necessary; be able to refer you to a professional clinical animal behaviourist. You can also follow our top tips to make firework celebrations less frightening for your pet. Keeping cats and dogs secure • Make sure your dog or cat always has somewhere to hide if he or she wants to and has access to this place at all times. For example this could be under some furniture or in a cupboard. • During firework seasons, walk dogs during daylight hours and keep cats and dogs indoors when fireworks are likely to be set off.

Hampton Gazette followers on Facebook have been discussing a rather interesting looking poster in recent weeks. The sign (pictured below) is located outside the old dry cleaners store, next door to Millie Brown’s hair salon. It appears the sign has a valid argument. Connells did indeed buy a 75% share into Sharman Quinney in 2003, these two brands are located in Hampton and are situated just a stones throw away from one another. Therefore, the partnership seems to be genuine, a rival company would not place their store within walking distance of a competitor, instead favouring uncaptured territory to lay their mark. Regarding the posters claim that Connells is preventing other estate agents from trading in the area, this seems unlikely. This move would be illegal and a branded company such as Sharman Quinney or Connells would not risk existing customer satisfaction ratings and their own business name by dealing with legal matters. The only way this could potentially have happened is if a representative from the firm has connections with the City Council who may be able to install such a block, this however also seems unlikely.
office space available in the area, which there certainly is in Hampton, an estate agent firm could well move into the space.
Connells and Sharman Quinney can prevent other competition legally in a variety of ways; selling houses for more, delivering good customer service and controlling the business of the area would turn many competitors away from trading in the area. However the rule still stands that if there is
All seems in order for now however if anything changes or more evidence is bought to light on this topic over the next few months then you will of course be the first to know. Please send in your views on your topic to lukechillingsworth@gmail.com and I will be sure to include them in next month’s issue.
There should be no restrictions on this. The Connells group may dominate the Hampton estate agent market but it appears for now as if they can only be doing this legally, purely for the sake of the business to stay afloat. If the group were caught impeding other companies actions then this would lead to a hefty reprimand which would dent the firms popularity nationwide.

• At nightfall close windows and curtains and put on music to mask and muffle the sound of fireworks. • If your pet shows any signs of fear try to ignore their behaviour. Leave them alone unless they are likely to harm themselves. • Never punish or fuss over your pet when it’s scared as this will only make things worse in the long run. • Make sure your cat or dog is always kept in a safe and secure environment and can’t escape if there’s a sudden noise. Have your pet microchipped in case they do escape.

Hampton Schools
Hampton Schools
Hampton College
Hampton College (Primary Phase)
Hampton Vale Primary school
Academy Status: On 1 September 2014 Hampton College became an academy. The school is now run by our own educational trust: the Hampton Academies Trust. We are what is termed a ‘converter academy’, which means that as a successful school, we have been approved by the Department for Education to form our own trust and to run our own affairs.
As the new school year started it was time to welcome some new staff and children to Hampton College (Primary Phase). Our new teachers – Mrs Hodgson, Mr Platt and Miss Prodrick are all settling in and I know that the children in KS1 are making them feel very welcome indeed. Miss Crabtree, Miss Rogers, Mrs Watson and Miss Kelly have also started with us, as our new teaching assistants, and I am sure that they are enjoying the new rewards and challenges that working in school bring.
The buzz and excitement of a new school year at Hampton Vale Primary School has continued into October with a series of exciting activities and whole-school events designed to make learning engaging, meaningful and fun.
Secondary Phase : record breaking year for examination results in 2014: We are also celebrating our best ever A level and GCSE results, which were awarded in summer 2014. At A level, the College achieved an overall 99% A-E pass rate, with a third of all passes graded A*- B and 65% graded A*-C. 100% of students achieved the equivalent of 2 or more A levels. Year 13 BTEC students were also incredibly successful, with all passing their courses and 77% achieving the top distinction and distinction* grades. Students who have performed particularly well at A level included: Lucy Yong (A*A*A), Amy Reid (A*A*A), Nicholas Lau (A*AA), Niamh Kingsley (A*A*A) and Steve Po (AAAA). Nicholas will be the first student from Hampton College to gain a place at the prestigious London School of Economics (LSE). Other destinations for Hampton College students this year include: Kings College London and the Universities of Leeds and York. At GCSE 75% of Hampton College students passed 5 or more GCSEs at the higher grades of A*-C, including Mathematics and English. The college is especially delighted at this
achievement, as it represents the college’s best ever performance at GCSE, in a year when national and local pass rates fell. ‘Hampton College’s GCSE results are amongst the very best in the East of England for the fifth year in a row. I would like to congratulate the students on their richly deserved success and thank the college staff, who work so hard to support these positive outcomes’ Helen Price, Headteacher. Alex’s amazing attendance One Hampton College student, Alex Gordon, finished his Year 11 with quite a remarkable achievement: he had not had a day off in his entire school career. Alex, who attended Hampton Hargate Primary School before joining the College, had 100% attendance from Reception right through to the end of Year 11. Alex was presented with a prize by Peterborough City Council, in recognition of this impressive feat and it emerged that he was the only pupil in the city to have achieved 100% for his 12 years of schooling. Alex has now joined the Hampton College Sixth Form and hopes to maintain his record through to the end of Year 13!
They come as the school plans a series of events for its pupils, staff, parents and the wider Hampton community that will be staged to mark the tenth anniversary of the opening of the school, which has grown from about 100 pupils on opening to its current total of about 550 children.
Our new reception children have also started with us and are excited about beginning their learning journey with us at Hampton College (Primary Phase). We’ve also had some new friends join us in year two and we would like to extend a Hampton College handshake to all of our new faces this term. The summer holiday was a busy time for us as our new playground markings and trim trail were installed. The faces of the children on the first day of term were an absolute delight as they saw the new playground games for the first time and I know how excited they are, when it is their turn to climb on the trim trail. Unusually the start of term also brought with it our postponed sports day from last term. The atmosphere at primary phase was fantastic as the children all took part in field and track events, in the form of activity circuits and flat races. A BIG thank you to the children for your energy and sportsmanship, an even bigger thank you to the weather for being kinder to us this time and an enormous thank you to our families and friends who came to cheer the children on and celebrate their first sports day at Hampton College. An extra special thank you to everybody who contributed to our charity cake sale which raised an amazing £200 for Children with Cancer UK. And so as the term moves on and autumn settles in we look forward to the fun and learning ahead of us this academic year.
Hargate snack time!
Hampton Hargate Primary School Our Autumn term in is now in full swing at Hampton Hargate. We have lots of different and exciting activities and events to look forward to this term including sporting events, a trip to Flag Fen for year 3 and 4 and our Harvest Festival celebrations on 10th October. We will of course be ending the term with our customary annual Friends Christmas Fair and our fabulous Christmas performances which are always a great showcase of the children’s talents!
Ha mpton Gazette | October 2014 | E: info@hamptongazette.co.uk | www.hamptongazette.co.uk
Year Two children have been busy as they started their theme of Food, Glorious Food in preparation for their Bumper Harvest production. The children have explored a newly refurbished courtyard at the school and planted a variety of different winter vegetables that they are looking forward to watch grow and then eat!
The new reception children have settled in quickly and have been enjoying their first experiences of school. They have been learning all about life at school and meeting new friends. Mrs Wilkinson, our Reception Team Leader said “I am really pleased with how the children have settled into school life and I am looking forward to busy and exciting first term with them.” Finally, we would like to say a big “well done” to all the pupils on the excellent end of year SATs results at both Key Stage1 and Key Stage 2. The pupils and teachers across the school have all worked incredibly hard and it is great to see that the hard work has produced fantastic results. Well done!

Writing and reading is an important focus for the whole school this year, and a Roald Dahl day (held close to what would have been the author’s birthday) made for an exciting start to this work. Children dressed as characters from the author’s books , and took part in a series of writing and art activities linked to some of his most famous books. With their current theme about chocolate, Year Three children also spent an afternoon in a Charlie and the Chocolate Factory reading and drama event to coincide with Roald Dahl Day. Meanwhile, in Year Five, space missions were the focus as children took part in a Lunar Landings event to launch their new theme.
