Greetings
from Cardea
We may be in the middle of winter, but after the success of our Santa visit, we are busy planning the spring and summer! The CRA have invited another special guest to come and say ‘hello’ to all our young (and not so young) folk and that is the Easter Bunny! Check out our Facebook MyCardea page and our new community notice boards for details of an Easter egg hunt and other fun activities coming up. With the mention of the Christmas visit, I have to say a belated big ‘thank you’ from all of the Cardea Residents’ Association to Roy Sansby at Network Rail for the loan of a vehicle to transport Santa! You may remember that I mentioned our Community First Responders a while ago and you might have read the update last month. The team are now fully operational and cover Cardea, Park Farm and some of Farcet and Stanground, and upon completion of training my husband and I will boost the number of CFRs to six volunteers, able to attend emergency calls. This is a valuable asset to our community, especially as we are on the edge of the town and ambulance response times may take longer than to some more central locations. CFRs are trained to respond to life threatening emergencies, including: heart attacks, breathing problems, allergic reactions, diabetic emergencies, strokes and many more. The volunteers are not paid for this service and all equipment needs funding as each kit costs in excess of £2000. Because this service is so valuable we will be fund raising through the year to keep the CFRs operational.
We are also looking forward to launching our Cardea Youth Club , as with all youth work there are a lot of formalities that have to be put in place before we can open the doors and invite our young people in but hopefully next month I’ll have more to report on this so as always... watch this space! Earlier I mentioned our new noticeboards, we have one more or less opposite The Applecart and one on the main footpath near the cut through to the Jupiter Way side. These will carry meeting dates and general notices but are also for Cardea residents to post in, local trades and services etc. If you have a notice that you’d like to display please email me kawebb@live.co.uk or contact myself or Richard Taylor via MyCardea on Facebook. I am looking after the one closer to The Applecart and Richard the other. As we are all about community matters I’d just like to remind you all that these cold dark days can be very lonely for some people, those who live alone and those on their own with small children especially so can I ask of you a small favor, if you have a neighbor who may be feeling the negative effects of winter please call on them just to say hello, sometimes just spending half an hour or so sharing a cuppa can really make a big difference to someone’s day. Keep warm and safe and take care of each other, Kate Ferris.
If you have a notice that you’d like to display please email me kawebb@live.co.uk or contact myself or Richard Taylor via MyCardea on Facebook

Stanground & Farcet C of E Churches Around the middle of this month we will be surrounded by red hearts, roses, champagne and chocolates. The shops want you to buy these things! February is not a good month for retailers and they need the sales boost! The important thing, though, is celebrating love and loving relationships and showing your loved ones that you really do appreciate them. We so easily take people for granted assuming they will always be there. A sincerely meant ‘I love you’ and a true act of thoughtfulness can do a power of good and costs no money. The centre of the Christian Faith is the knowledge that at the very heart of the universe, there is love. As the well known Bible verse puts it’ God so loved the world that he gave his only son.’
Valentine Day Special 1pm - 3pm in the Church Hall, Mace Road, Stanground. Food, laughter, music, sharing stories and having fun together. Open to everyone, singles, couples, families, old, young, children. Invites will be going out soon, if you want one, please give me a call, but if you want to just come along, you will be welcome on the day.
Support worker Carer required Par t-time suppor t worker to provide care to a young women living in Stanground
But for many love seems to have gone, you have been let down, or bereaved, or disappointed, or maybe never met ‘the one’ you’ve been dreaming of. Maybe you would just like to celebrate but don’t have anyone to celebrate with. And so some people from our churches are planning a special event on Valentines Day.

February Bulletin from CAMBRIDGESHIRE FIRE AND RESCUE SERVICE
Dear Editor,
Thorpe Hall hospice says a massive thank you for your support in 2014! May all of us at Sue Ryder, Thorpe Hall Hospice use your pages to thank you for your wholehearted generosity and on going support during what has been one of our busiest years of fundraising ever. As many of your readers will know, we are now in the final months of our £6 million Appeal funding the building of a new in patient unit at Thorpe Hall Hospice in Peterborough. Building work is well underway – the foundations were laid in November, the walls started going up in December and the roof will be completed in the coming weeks. We have only been able to keep the building on track because of the support we have received from people right across our region.
Think the fire service is all about putting out fires and rescuing people from road crashes? Think again. At Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Service, the men and women on our frontline deliver important fire safety advice to dozens of different communities. From visiting schools to care homes, mother and toddler groups to community fetes, our firefighters play an integral role in keeping YOUR community safe. And we’d like you to think about joining us. The role of a firefighter is varied and exciting but most importantly, it can make a real different to people’s lives. It is a profession that provides development from the start, with opportunities to grow into management or specialist roles for those who want to.
During 2014 supporters notched up some outstanding fundraising activities. There have been delicious cake sales, open garden events, several sponsored bike rides, dress down days, dress up evenings, plant sales…you name it, our supporters have done it! And of course we cannot forget the volunteers who help us in so many different ways every day. Thank you all. 2015 is going to be an incredibly exciting time for us at Thorpe Hall. We will be opening the doors of our new in patient unit in the summer. The move to the new building will free up space in the mansion house for us to develop the services we offer out in the community. We will also be progressing our plans for Thorpe Hall itself, creating something very special for the future – there will be more news to come on that over the coming months. There’s lots more information on our website www.thorpehall.org and our fundraising team are always happy to discuss how you can get involved. Give them a call on 01733 225999.
In the meantime can we say thank you again to all of your readers for The next recruitment process for wholetime firefighters opens this month their incredible support and wish you all a happy and peaceful 2015. (February 2015). To find out more, log on to www.cambsfire.gov.uk. With best wishes from Find us on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram. All the staff at Thorpe Hall Hospice in Peterborough

Hospital at Home Service
Are you looking for a new The Hospital at Home Service is a unique challenge this year? Why not concept in home hospital care. Patients, volunteer to help local charity East Anglian Air Ambulance in certain circumstances, may be given the choice of being nursed in hospital or (EAAA) and play a part in continuing our... in their own home. All patients in the Peterborough, Whittlesey and Oundle areas are eligible providing that the GP, District Nursing Sister/Charge Nurse and Carer if applicable, will accept responsibility for the patient and that the patient fits the simple criterion, which is: Without Hospital At Home, The Patient Would Be In Hospital. The fact that patients need not be parted from their family or familiar surroundings has proved beneficial to a speedier recovery. We do nurse a proportion of terminally ill patients who can remain at home surrounded by their love ones. There is nothing for the patient / family to pay. The Hospital at Home Friends Group is a registered charity that raises funds to pay for nursing hours for the Hospital at Home Service. One of their many fund raising activities is a 200 Club. Members pay ÂŁ1.00 per month and, while helping the Service, can win a substantial cash prize. To join the 200 Club, please contact: Roger Burbage, 153 Coneygree Road, Stanground, Peterborough. PE2 8LQ Tel: 01733 561001 Email: rrburbage@btinternet.com
Lifesaving Work EAAA is a 365 day-a-year lifesaving helicopter emergency medical service working across Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Norfolk and Suffolk. Since the charity began 15 years ago, we have attended over 16,000 missions. In 2015, EAAA are looking to recruit more volunteers across the region to help us celebrate 15 years since the charity began. EAAA will be marking 15 years of service with commemorative events throughout the region, including ‘Tea at 15:00’ on May 15 at locations all over East Anglia. EAAA could not exist without our team of over 200 committed volunteers who continually dedicate their time and skills in many different ways. We are hugely proud of all our volunteers and enormously grateful for the time that they have given over the last 15 years. As a volunteer you will play a vital role in helping us to keep our two helicopters
flying 365 days a year across East Anglia. We completely depend on our volunteers to support us in delivering our lifesaving services. Our volunteers choose the time that they can give to us, whether it is on a weekly basis or occasionally helping out at events. Every hour of time given to us makes a huge difference. There are plenty of opportunities, from organising your own events, to helping us for a few hours at one of our events across East Anglia. You could even spend your time volunteering behind the scenes at one of our seven offices, with anything from operations to communications. If you are interested in becoming a volunteer in 2015, visit our website http://www.eaaa.org.uk/ support-us/volunteer/becoming-avolunteer/ or contact your local area Fundraising Manager.

MONEY MATTERS
by Pete Bird, Bird & Co Certified Public Accountants
Do you have any tax or business questions, please email Pete Bird of Bird & Co info@birdnco.co.uk and if of general interest, it will be published here!
Question: I pay an annual subscription to my professional association – can I get tax relief on this annual payment? Answer: Yes you can if the subscription is necessary to do your job and you need to have your name included on a professional register or you have to have a special licence. Subscriptions to local professional societies or branches are also deductible if the object of the branch or society is mainly professional. Where the taxpayer is self-employed, a deduction can be made in computing business profits for the cost of the professional subscription where the profits from that profession are assessed on the member. You may therefore be able to deduct the cost of these from your taxable income and reduce the amount of tax you pay. Tax: Following on from the above question, where a company pays the subscriptions, they are deductible in computing the profits of the company. As long as the subscription is on HMRC’s list (List 3), the employee will not suffer a benefit in kind tax charge. Also if you wear a uniform or protective clothing at work and you have to wash it yourself you may be due a tax refund from HMRC, and if you don’t claim it, you’ll lose it. According to our statistics, 2 in 3 employees who wear a uniform at work are entitled to a tax rebate. Small Earnings Exception For Class 2 NICs - If you earn less than £5,885 (2014/15 figures) a year from your self-employment you are entitled to claim the small earnings exception and not pay any Class 2 NIC for the year. Therefore at £2.75 a week for 2014/15 this is a yearly saving of £143. You can also claim this for any year in which you have made a loss. However, if you have no other earnings and are not entitled to NIC credits, you may wish to pay Class 2 contributions voluntarily to preserve entitlement to the state pension as this is cheaper than paying Class 3 (voluntary) contributions, which for 2014/15 are £13.90 a week. Paying Class 2 contributions voluntary rather than Class 3 will save £11.15 a week in 2014/15, a yearly saving of £579.80.

Turn your property into someone’s home Whether you’re a landlord already, or thinking about buy-to-let this year, there are plenty of do’s-and-don’ts to deal with in the letting industry: regulations, legal requirements, paperwork and day-to-day management... when all you really want is regular rental income, with minimum fuss. At Peterborough-based Letters Home Rentals, this is part of their daily routine. They take care of the details on your behalf, and if you’re on the lookout for a property that’s ideal for tenants – or you have one to market – their sales company, Martins Residential, offers a fully integrated service from the same office. No doubt you’ll weigh up the often considerable time commitment if you selfmanage, against the value for money from a dependable, professional service.
The Residential Landlords Association has said that most complaints about letting agents concern ‘poor administration’. They advise landlords never to choose on price alone and when they find a good agent, to hang on to them.

Pumas join forces with Mick George Park Farm Pumas FC are very happy to announce a new relationship with local company Mick George Skips. The generous people at Mick George (who also sponsor POSH and Cambridge Utd) have put their hands in their pockets to support our fabulous little club with the purchase of two kits for our U12 Red side and our U10 Blue side. The U10 blues are just starting out with many of the lads playing their first ever season of football. A challenging task for any young footballer but they have risen to the task and have really enjoyed the season so far. Our U12 Reds, after a challenging start to the season have added a few new faces and have seen some great performances in the Hunts FA county cup – getting to the quarter finals v Yaxley to be played in February. The are also hoping to do well in the Hereward cup as well. Two great young sides supported by a very generous, community minded organisation such as Mick George. All of us at Park Farm Pumas would lie to say a heartfelt thank you to our friends at Mick George for their support – long may it continue. GO PUMAS!

Music & Dance
Pig Dyke Molly raise money for McMillan Cancer. On 22nd December Pig Dyke Molly a local dance team named after the stretch of water that runs to the back of Stanground departed from their usual dance actives to sing carols along Oakdale Avenue
‘Household names’ play together A husband and wife will play significant roles in the Spring concert from the City of Peterborough Symphony Orchestra on Sunday, March 1st. The orchestra will be conducted by Steve Bingham and a viola solo will be played by his wife, professionally called Brenda Stewart. It is not unusual for them to be on the same platform because Brenda has been violinist for the Bingham String Quartet since it was established 30 years ago. What is not commonly known is that viola player Brenda was ordained as a priest five years ago and is rector of seven rural parishes in west Cambridgeshire. Her viola solo is during the Berlioz symphony, Harold in Italy, and the part was originally written for Paganini. Organiser Ruth Dawes said it was great fun and it was lovely being out in the community over the festive period. She would like to thank all those who supported the team and in total they raised £180.00 for McMillian Cancer. This year they hope to do the same. For more information on the group please see www.pigdyke.co.uk
The programme also includes Gershwin’s An American in Paris (including the famous taxi horns) and Rossini’s sparkling and witty overture, Italian Girl in Algiers. The concert is at the home of the orchestra, The Voyager Academy, Mountsteven Avenue, Walton, between 3pm and 5pm. Tickets are £10.50 (concessions) and £12.50, with school children free. Schools
Success for Winyates Primary School at Peterborough’s
Quick Sticks Hockey Competition On Tuesday, 18 November, approximately one hundred children descended upon Peterborough Hockey Club for the School Games Quick sticks Hockey Tournament. The Stanground Academy organised a competitive Quick Sticks tournament open to all primary schools in the Peterborough area. Peterborough’s primary schools did not disappoint and showed massive support for this event with a full quota of 16 teams taking part. As the first whistles blew to commence the start of the tournament, all teams went out looking for the win. The tournament saw all teams compete in group games, followed by knock-out rounds. After a tense wait for the results our semi-finalists were announced. St Thomas More first team claimed victory over Highlees first team and Winyates first team edged past Hampton Vale to compete in the final. Both teams entering the final proved that they were strong teams throughout the competition and didn’t disappoint in the final. A close game ending in Winyates winning 2-1 over St. Thomas More who were disappointed but proud to have reached the final and qualify for the County School Games level three event. Other qualifiers included Highlees, Hampton Vale and today’s Champions Winyates.
St Michael’s Pre-School We’ve had a fun-filled half term so far, starting off with a visit from the Raptor Foundation, where we got to see lots of different birds and learn lots of facts too. We thoroughly enjoy our annual visits from them!
“
“I am overwhelmed with the young people playing their hearts out today proud to be representing their schools. Increasing the amount of young people participating in competitive sport is key and I am so pleased today’s students had this fantastic opportunity. Anita Duff, Sainsbury’s School Games Organiser for Peterborough
Ged Rae, Principal of the Stanground Academy, said: “I’m glad all participants enjoyed themselves today, also each and every one of them showed great skills. They all worked as a team and performed some great hockey and we wish the Peterborough schools the best of luck in the next round.”
We’ve been having such fun exploring Julia Donaldson books too, including favourites such as ‘The Gruffalo’ and ‘Room on the Broom’. Using the books as inspiration, we’ve been role playing, using puppets and our puppet theatre to act out the stories, created our own Stick Man and much, much more! We’ve had all-weather activities inside and outside too, including our usual Head Start Programme regulars. Our waiting list for September is now open, so do give us a call on 01733 686158 or email stmichaelspreschoolstanground@ yahoo.co.uk for further information.

Food & Drink
Did any of you do ‘Dry January’? I’ve been reading up on this and experts state that ‘the body likes predictable habits - not shocks – such as completely stopping drinking.’ Yay! Did know that red wine is thought to be more beneficial because of an antioxidant known as resveratrol found in the skin of grapes. Some studies have found that moderate drinking is linked to a lower risk of cardiovascular disease. Excellent! – I’m convinced. Monday nights are Pie Nights!
THE APPLECART The Applecart will be doing a Valentines Special which consists of 3 courses for 2 people at £25. Mondays are now Pie Nights - 2 x pies and 2 x drinks for £12 Tuesdays are Steak Nights - 2 x steaks & a bottle of wine for £20 Wednesday’s are Curry Nights - 2 x curry’s and 2 x drinks for £12 – also Wednesday is Quiz Night
Don’t forget that it’s Valentine’s Day during February which falls on a Saturday this year (14th) – so there is no excuse not to take your partner out – or go looking for one! We have a number of great local bands to choose from and / or some delicious food to sample.

Family law worries;
court is NOT the only option
When a couple separate, difficult decisions have to be made, including arrangements for the children of the family and how to divide the finances to ensure everyone’s housing and income needs are met, now and in the future.
In an ideal world couples would sit down together and work out an agreement, but sadly that is not always possible. There are several options available to couples which do not include court proceedings. These include: Solicitor Negotiation - where each party instructs a solicitor to enter into negotiations on their behalf in the hope of reaching a mutual agreement; Mediation - where an independent mediator holds a number of meetings with the couple jointly in the hope of assisting them to agree arrangements directly;
Little Kickers pre-schoo Little Kickers is the home of pre-school football, using fun and imaginative games to help children develop early learning goals. By building an engaging and pressure free environment, children are taken on a football adventure. The sessions do not isolate individuals, which allows children to progress at their own speed, whilst being aided by our experienced coaches. With four segmented age groups, continued progression can be achieved thanks to the detailed sessions built by FA qualified coaches and industry experts. Skills such as colour recognition, numeracy skills and body parts are all interwoven into our games, whilst we also focus on social aspects such as turn-taking and listening. For more information, please call Jodie on 01733 808905 or email jodiesloan@littlekickers.co.uk
Collaborative – where each party instructs a solicitor separately and the four of them meet to discuss matters directly in the hope of reaching an agreement; Court proceedings – a last resort if no other option allows the parties to reach agreement on all issues Abby Smith of Woolley & Co Solicitors always approaches such matters in a sensitive but proactive way in the hope of assisting clients to reach a swift, amicable agreement but which best protects their needs now and in the future. Abby Smith has many years’ experience in dealing with such issues and is an accredited specialist in this field. For any Family Law queries please contact Abby Smith for a FREE initial telephone consultation. Thereafter meetings can be arranged at a time and venue convenient to you. Contact me now:

We need your support and help at Deafblind UK! Deafblind UK is based in Hampton, Peterborough. Our volunteers help us in many different ways, from taking and making calls to supporting individuals through our befriending schemes. As a volunteer you would not only help to empower and improve the quality of life for our deafblind members but also enrich your own life through your involvement with Deafblind UK.
school football
We have a number of different types of volunteering roles. They range from administration or organising activities, to visiting members in their home for company and conversation or calling them once a week for a quick chat. We are also looking for people who can show a person how to use an Ipad to help them do an online shop, use the voiceover features to read a book or use Skype to contact friends and family. Some roles can be carried out in the comfort of your own home or from our office at Hampton from as little as half an hour a week. By becoming a volunteer you could change someone’s life! Joyce, 75, a partially sighted member from Peterborough said: “After just one session of learning how to use an Ipad I have been able to show my daughter and my friend what I have learnt – they were both amazed.” Pam, 81, deafblind member from Hampton: “Thank you so much for calling me on my birthday, it was the only contact I had all day and you made my day!”
All volunteers receive an appropriate induction plus ongoing support and advice to enable them to undertake these important roles. Please get in touch today for more information!

Ingredients:
4 lamb shanks Salt & pepper 50ml of olive oil 2 medium onions, finely chopped 1 small head of garlic, halved 2 tbsp tomato puree 1 sprig of rosemary 1 sprig of thyme 1 big handful of fava beans 2 big handfuls of black olives 250ml of dry white wine 250ml chicken stock Chopped parsley
Method:
Heat the oven to 160c/325F/gas mark 3. Season the shanks well. Heat the oil in an oven and hob proof casserole dish over a medium heat. Brown the shanks for about 15 minutes on all sides. Remove and put to one side until needed.
Recipe Braised Lamb Shank with Fava Beans & Olive Gravy served with mash & local root vegetables With the cold winter evenings it is comforting to sit down to something substantial and lamb shanks is one of my favourite served with buttered mash and roasted root vegetables.

Add the chopped onions and garlic to the fat in the dish the lamb shanks were browned in and slowly cook for about 5 minutes, until the onions start to soften. Stir in the tomato puree and herbs and heat for a couple of minutes more, then add the fava beans and olives, followed by the wine and stock and the lamb shanks and bring to a simmer. Once all the ingredients are simmering, cover and place in a preheated oven for 2-2 ½ hours, until the meat wants to fall off the bones. Before serving check the seasoning and serve straight away, scattering the top with parsley and of course with all stew style of dishes mash and winter root vegetables are the finishing touches.

Stanground Blog
I was thinking... I’m going on holiday soon, I don’t really expect many of you reading to care much about this, but I couldn’t think of anything else to write about this month, so that’s what you’re getting. Soon I shall be packing up my warm clothes into an ancient suitcase, awkwardly hanging a snowboard bag off of my shoulder and setting off to the Eurostar. As usual I will get stuck in ticket barriers, turn around and inadvertently hit tourists with a snowboard and complain constantly about my lack of upper body strength which makes it especially irritating to carry all this across Kings Cross Station. It will all be worth it once I’ve endured the tedious 8 hour long journey through France. Apparently this train ride does have a highlight according to last years driver, who emphatically told us to look to our left as we could almost see Paris in that direction. Almost. I sighed and returned to my book at that point after having my hopes raised that something exciting might be happening. As soon as I’m stood at the top of a mountain I’ll be cheerful again. The cold mountain air has a way of making everything look better, but at that point I’ll be doing my annual thing of desperately trying to remember how to snowboard again in order not to make myself look like an idiot in front of everyone. Making myself look like an idiot seems to come naturally to me, so I try my best to avoid it at critical points like this. As long as I get home without seriously injuring myself I’ll be happy.
Microchipping Pets can go missing for a many reasons; they can become scared by fireworks, thunderstorms and even road works invoking their animal fight or flight instincts, they can be injured and not be able to get home, or simply wander too far from home and get lost.
I don’t really go on many other holidays apart from snowboarding. I normally make do with whatever the UK has to offer, consequently this means I haven’t been properly warm in years due to our country’s uselessly miserable and cold weather, I just don’t see why we need this much rain for such a small place. I wish I could travel more, the last place I went that was warm was Thailand, a place that takes heat to an extreme and every rumour that you’ve ever heard about it is true. I mean who actually wants to be in a place that experiences temperatures of 40 degrees celsius? It’s just obscene and unnecessary for anywhere to be that hot. My feet shouldn’t get burned when I walk across a patio to a swimming pool. Hopefully this year I’ll get to see somewhere else in the world in real life rather than on a TV screen, it’s just a simple matter of scraping together the money and convincing work to give me some time off. What could be simpler? Maybe I’ll go to New York, famed for it’s restaurants, bars, Broadway shows and Central Park mugging’s. I really can’t envision anything going wrong with that one. At all. I’m sure if something bad does happen, I’ll write about it here. by Jack Moakes 26

Pet Care It is thought that only around 50% of dogs are microchipped, and even fewer cats, yet so many go missing every day. Collars and tags are often lovingly given to pets, however these can easily come off leaving a much loved family member lost and unidentifiable. If microchipped, vets and local authorities can quickly identify a pet’s owner and return the pet home with least stress caused to the animal. When pets are not microchipped they usually end up in a re-homing centre or even worse, being put to sleep. National charity Dogs Trust, reported that last year 111,986 stray and abandoned dogs were picked up by local authorities across the UK, with only 40% reunited with their owners. This percentage would be dramatically increased if more pets were microchipped and is a strong reason why in April 2016 it will become compulsory for all dogs in England to be microchipped.
The best gift ever
ent ever Give the best pres t your ge d this year an e’s pet, on ed lov a pet, or ensure that microchipped, to ays be able your pets will alw th you. wi d ite to be reun
Who can be microchipped? Microchipping is commonly done on cats, dogs and rabbits, but many other species including birds, horses, reptiles, small furies and even fish can be chipped!
How big is a microchip? The chip itself is smaller than a grain of rice and in cats, dogs and rabbits is implanted under the loose skin of the neck, which is usually almost pain free for the pet. It is important to point out that microchips and readers can vary considerably from suppliers so it is vital that a good quality chip with maximum readability is used and implanted correctly.
When can my pet be microchipped? Most vets recommend microchipping at the time of the second injection in your pets’ primary course or any time after this. Microchipping is usually performed fully conscious and takes just a few moments. Here at Best Friends Veterinary Group / VetSavers, we use Tracer Advance microchips. Once implanted all Tracer Advance microchips are registered with Petlog which is managed by the Kennel Club. They are also currently the only non-glass microchip in the UK, making them 10 times stronger than glass as well as shatter proof.
About microchip databases
Why do vets recommend microchipping?
The microchip database is the key to the reunification process and owners can be sure that the database linked to the Tracer Advance microchip is robust now and will be in the future. If your pet is already microchipped but you have moved house or phone number, make sure you have updated the database which you can do at www.petlog.org.uk
A microchip provides a permanent, inexpensive form of identification – for life. Ask anyone how much they would pay to get their pet back if it was lost and I’m sure the answer would be a lot more than the cost of a microchip.
Petlog also offers the opportunity to add holiday contact details so if you do decide to take your pet with you and it does become lost in a strange place – the database will know where you are and how to get in touch.

Katie‘s Stars
FEBRUARY 2015 Aries March 21-April 20
By Katie Lancashire, Clairvoyant and Astrologer
This could be a make or break month on more than one level. If a relationship is stagnant, don’t be scared of confronting the matter head on, things are often better out than in. Looking for a new job, explore your options, you’ll be amazed at what’s on offer.
Taurus April 21-May21
Concern on the job front may put your mind in a spin, but be careful whom you confide in. A surprise turn of events will actually work in your favour, do not give up hope. If single, expect a grand gesture from someone who means it!
Gemini May 22-June 22 You are in your element this month and people will be like putty in your hand, choose your requests carefully in order to achieve your goal. Settled? You’ll be feeling the love and could possibly be on the receiving end of an offer you cannot refuse! Single? Don’t settle for second best. Cancer June 23-July 23
Trust your gut instinct this month, especially when it comes to a decision over love and romance, it hasn’t let you down before, and isn’t about to start now. The desire for change or to accomplish certain goals will be stronger then ever, go for it - you are ready!
Leo
July 24-August 23 A friendship with an unlikely acquaintance could lead to something promising and very special, don’t be afraid to explore all avenues. An old flame may try to reignite your feelings, but hold strong and remember, you are never an ‘option.’
Virgo August 24-September 23 It’s important to feel valued and recognised, but at times you may think you slip below the radar, fear not, a certain someone will lavish you with all the kindness and affection you need. Thinking of Moving house or job? Expect changes late into the month. Libra September 24-October 23 Silence is golden this month, listen more than you speak, all the answers you are after will be revealed. Someone you care very deeply about, may in fact be feeling the same way as you, don’t be afraid of confronting your emotions. Scorpio October 24-November 22 Hearts and flowers don’t normally work for you, but this month there will be no shortage of compliments and people wanting to be in your company, enjoy the attention. If you are in a relationship and its struggling, take a look in the mirror, the problem may be under your nose. Sagittarius November 23-December 21 What are you trying to achieve by your actions? You may be trying to impress someone or even catch them out, just be careful, if you play with fire you will get burnt. A loved one needs your support and understanding right now, not the Spanish Inquisition. Capricorn December 22-January 20 You’ll be running at full pelt this month and barely coming up for air. Don’t overlook those closest to you else they’ll start to feel undervalued. Balance your time accordingly in order to get the best out of both worlds.

Aquarius January 21-February 19 You’ve had enough of feeling restless and uncertain over particular situations, especially the direction of a relationship; speak up once and for all, see how your partner feels. Concern over a health matter needs to be addressed, either with you or a family member. Pisces February 20-March 20 Emotionally you’re in need of much reassurance this month, especially if you have your hopes pinned on a certain person or outcome to a situation. If you’ve lost contact with an old friend, give them a call, they’d be delighted to her from you.
If it is your birthday this month.... Emotionally you are feeling supercharged and ready for some fun, just ensure you do not get entangled with someone who’s technically ‘not available.’ Watch out that you don’t overspend on unnecessary luxuries, as every penny counts later in the month.

Is your property registered?
Consumer Advice by Eileen Le Voi
Immobilise is a national property database that allows you to protect your possessions by registering them for free. Any valuables that have a unique serial number, such as mobile phones, can be registered online. These details are searchable by all UK Police Forces and form an extremely powerful tool in helping to identify and return recovered, lost or stolen personal property to its rightful owner.
Virtually any item can be registered from your TV to your toaster! You can also register bicycles and jewellery on the database and upload a picture to help distinguish it from any other property. Immobilise has proven to effectively tackle crime on a national level and, not only allows police to reunite people with their stolen property, but it also assists in prosecutions. The service is supported by the Home Office, the Mobile Industry, Crime Action Forum, Transport for London, the National Mobile Phone Crime Unit and all 43 police forums.
What will you need to register? Simply go to www.immobilise.com to start the registration; you will need an email address and the make, model and serial number of any property that you wish to record. It only takes a few moments to create an account and you can add property at your leisure.
25 million people use immobilise and, every week through the site, hundreds of people are reunited with their lost or stolen property.
What happens once I’m registered? Should you lose or have any of your property stolen, and Police recover it, they can quickly establish who the real owner is and return it to them and, where appropriate, arrests can be made. The police have access to the National Mobile Property Register (NMPR) (www.thenmpr. com) which is the sister site of Immobilise, and second hand shops have access to the Checkmend database (www.checkmend.com/uk) which provides selected information about an item so they can check to ensure they are not receiving stolen goods.
How do I find my serial number?
Can I highlight my property as stolen on my account?
Serial numbers can be different depending on what item you want to register; on a mobile phone it would be your IMEI number which can be obtained from either looking underneath the battery, by typing *#06# into the keypad or by looking on the side of the box. On most other electrical items it would be on the back or underneath the item, usually near a barcode. For bicycles it would be the frame number which can be found in several locations on the frame.
Go to www.immobilise.com today and register your property
Yes, Immobilise has a feature for an owner to instantly update the property status on their account as lost or stolen. Remember if you have had an item stolen it is vital to report it to the police straight away by dialling 101. Also, if it is a mobile phone that you have lost or had stolen, then report it to you network provider as soon as possible and they will block the handset so that no one else can use it.
