Welcome back!

Well, the Easter holidays will soon be upon us and in this issue we have tried to bring you as many of the egg-cellent trails, egg hunts, days out and holiday clubs as we could. From visiting Huntington Racecourse to local shopping destinations, through to National Trust properties and Nene Park, there is so much to do, not forgetting our local theatres which are staging some fantastic performances during the holidays. Our Day Trippers series looks at Saffron Walden which will offer any family a day out to remember. The highlight for us a couple of years ago was the trip to Mountfitchet Castle which really does bring back life from 900 years ago. Being an open-air museum experience, it is a great place to explore. Don’t miss the House on the Hill Museum which is included in the entry and provides a nostalgic journey through toys of yesteryear – over 70,000 of them. You won’t have to hunt for long to find five competitions including two different books and two great toys to win. Grimsthorpe Castle which is just north of Bourne in Lincolnshire is another great place to visit and spend time with your family. They are giving away a season membership for a family of four, simply enter via the details on page 3 for a chance to win this brilliant prize. Now to burn off all that chocolate induced energy, have you, your friends, your sports team, class or even school thought about entering the Anna’s Hope 2023 Fun Run? The 5km run is part of the long established Great Eastern Run, both of which are on 15 October this year. Read all about how you can have a fun family day out, get fit and raise some funds for a great charity – see page 15 for more details.

Wishing you a fun Easter holiday, with a little chocolate along the way!

Exam Preparation is Upon Us!

Are you noticing that your child is having to work that little bit harder? Are they starting to talk about exams and revision more than they used to? Are YOU worried about how you can help exam preparation? Not sure what is the best way to support your child?

Whether your child is working towards A levels, GCSE exams, Year 6 SATs or 11+ exams, it is important to help your child prepare. Every year we help many students prepare for their exams at our tuition centre and often get asked by parents how best to help their children survive exam season. So here are

Some Top Tips:

 Making time and sticking to it - Encourage your child to have regular revision slots. Try and allocate time for every subject and check

in with them, otherwise they are likely to study for the subjects they enjoy and ignore those ‘tricky’ areas that they really should be studying but find difficult.

 Revision techniques - Research suggests that memory recall practice is essential for effective revision. Help by asking them short memory recall questions daily (facts that they have learnt the day or week before) or providing exam practice books. This method will also show up the areas of weakness for them to revise more.

For more information or to book a session call 01733 425 186 or visit www.kipmcgrath.co.uk

 Chill and chat - Have plenty of fun, relaxation, and family time as part of their daily routine. Make sure that they have time to chill every evening before they go to bed and are not revising right up until then. Good sleep, enjoyment and relaxation are essential for retaining information and thinking clearly.

So, in summary, to ensure your child is ready for the exams, remember to make time for PREPARATION and RELAXATION

Run for Anna’s Hope

Fancy getting your family or school friends to join the Anna’s

If you see someone dressed as a fairy at an event, chances are they are raising money for local charity Anna’s Hope. You can also fundraise for the charity at this year’s fun run as part of the Great Eastern Run in Peterborough.

Anna’s Hope supports children diagnosed with a brain tumour. It was founded in 2006 by Carole and Rob Hughes in memory of their daughter Anna Olivia Hughes who lost her battle to a brain tumour aged only 3 years 8 months.

Anna loved dressing up as a fairy which inspired the logo and the charity’s volunteers dressing as fairies at the events they attend.

This Lincolnshire based charity aims to help children with a brain tumour reach their full potential through specialist support by the Anna’s Hope Therapy Team who are part of the Brainbow Service it co-founded in 2013. It is the only service of its kind in the UK and helps over 100 children and their families from the region each year.

One of their key fundraising events is the Anna’s Hope 5k Fun Run at the Great Eastern Run on 15

October organised by Good Running Events. The Great Eastern Run is comprised of the Anna's Hope 5K Fun Run at 9am, followed by the Half Marathon which begins at 10.30am.

This year the charity is offering up to 300 free places for children under 16 who can raise at least £30 for Anna’s Hope. This amount will fund one week’s specialist neuro-rehabilitation support for a child with a brain tumour.

It’s an ideal event for schools and clubs to take part in and each year the charity offer prizes and trophies as part of the Anna’s Hope School’s Challenge. This year they will be awarding the trophies to any school which raises over £250 for Anna’s Hope. There will also be prizes of Usborne Books from The Little Book Snug in partnership with Usborne for the four schools who raise the most for Anna’s Hope.

Remember if you don’t feel like running or walking it is a great event to watch. There is also a large event village at the Peterborough Embankment with a host of stands, and other entertainment making it a great day out.
