Protecting your child against flu Flu vaccination is one of the most effective interventions to reduce harm from flu. Talk to your GP, practice nurse or your child's school nurse if you want more information about when and how your child will be vaccinated against flu. With COVID-19 circulating it is more important than ever to ensure your children take their free flu vaccine.
Flu can be a very unpleasant illness for children with potentially serious complications, including bronchitis and pneumonia. The children's flu vaccine is offered annually as a nasal spray in September/October to protect young children against flu. Which children will receive the free flu vaccine this year?
Who will give the children’s flu vaccination?
In the autumn/winter of 2020-21, the vaccine will be available free on the NHS for eligible children, including:
Children aged two and three years old will be given the flu vaccine by their GP surgery.
Children aged two or three years old (on 31 August of current flu season)
School aged children will be given the vaccine by a nurse in the school or in a community setting. Children aged six months – two years old who are at high risk from flu will be given the vaccine at their GP surgery.
All primary school-aged children All year 7 secondary school-aged children Children with a health condition that puts them at greater risk from flu Children who live with someone who is on the NHS Shielded Patient List
flu:
5
Children aged two - 17 with long term health conditions will receive the flu jab from their school nurse or GP surgery.
reasons to vaccinate your child 1. Protect your child. The vaccine will help protect your child against flu and serious complications such as bronchitis and pneumonia
2. Protect you, your family& friends. Vaccinating your child will help protect more vulnerable family and friends
3. No injection needed. The nasal spray is painless and easy to have
4. It’s better than having flu. The nasal spray helps protect against flu, has been given to millions of children worldwide and has an excellent safety record
5. Avoid costs. If your child gets flu, you may have to take time off work or arrange alternative childcare
What should I do? Contact your child’s GP if your child was aged two or three years old (on the 31 August of the current flu season) and you haven’t heard from them by early November. If your child is at primary school or in year 7 of secondary school, please complete the online/paper consent form that your school will send. If your child has a health condition that puts them at greater risk from flu, or lives with someone on the NHS Shielded Patient List, they are also eligible for the flu vaccine.

Helping protect everyone, every winter
Greetings readers,
Cool, misty mornings, dew-laden ground, conkers and crunchy leaves on woodland walks, these are all things I look forward to in Autumn. Add in some apple bobbing, pumpkin carving and, of course, a dose of fireworks while munching a toffee apple and it’s easy to know why this season is a firm favourite. Whilst we all may still be in for a few surprises this season, we are finding our feet with some normality. Getting back to school, albeit under harder circumstances, has proven a positive move for most families and after having the children home for many months it’s probably been a little bittersweet for parents. We can all hopefully look forward to coming together again in October half-term, however, as many businesses are fully-prepared for social distancing and providing Covidsafe family fun. In this issue, we’ve some fantastic indoor and outdoor events and activities to schedule in. From the Autumn Festival at Nene Park and pumpkin carving at Skylark Maze and Funyard to Rumble Live Action Gaming at Grafham Waters and indoor adventure at Laser Quest there’s no need to stay home this half-term! We do recommend, however, checking providers' websites regularly if Government restrictions continue to tighten. We wish you a happy, safe and fun half-term.

LATEST NEWS & COMPETITION WINNERS Winners of the Virtual Food & Farming Day competition The East of England Agricultural Society’s contest, sponsored by Term Times magazine, has crowned two winners. Fatima, from Welland Academy in Peterborough, and April, from St Gilberts CofE Primary School in Stamford, both of whom have won the Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 Virtual Food and Farming Day Schools’ Competition, respectively. The contest, run by Kids Country – the society’s education programme for Key Stage 1 & 2 children, comprised of schools sending pieces of creative work to depict what they most enjoyed about the 2020 Food and Farming Day event. The winners secured £150 towards the travel costs for the 2021 event at the East of England Showground, with 2nd and 3rd prize winners claiming £100 contribution to their class’ attendance and a £50 book voucher for their school. Sandra Lauridsen, the education manager for Kids Country, says: “We are thrilled that primary schools across the East of England and wider accepted the challenge and responded so creatively and overwhelmingly to this year’s competition, sponsored by Term Times magazine. It was great to read all the entries and see what the children had enjoyed about this year’s Virtual Food and Farming Day, which we moved online this year. With over 900 schools and homes taking part on the day of the event, and a further 9,000 logging on to the site, we look forward to welcoming all of our usual schools and hopefully even more to the Food and Farming Day when it returns to the East of England Showground in 2021.” Treasure Trails winners

Peterborough’s leading foot care experts have expanded their offering with new services Adam & Holly
Support services for students Experts at the IQPlus project question whether there’s enough time for GCSE and A-Level students to prepare for 2021 exams
His passion for podiatry lead him to rise to the highest position within podiatry organisations in a short span of time. He brought and implemented many changes to enhance the podiatry profession and to motivate podiatrists, so you can understand how excited The Fane Clinic team is to have him on board. Somuz has been elected to the position of Honorary Treasurer of the Institute of Chiropodists and Podiatrists (IOCP) and serves on the IOCP Executive Board. He is also a Consultant Fellow of the IOCP and been awarded by IOCP, ‘Outstanding Contribution Towards Education’ (139). New services at The Fane Clinic include: • Nail Surgery for in-growing toenails.
After the confusion of A-level results day, and the marginally better GCSE results day, students and parents are understandably apprehensive for October’s exams and wondering what impact Covid-19 will have on exam preparation for 2021. IQPlus, the broadbased educational services company, is offering support and daily revision sessions in GCSE and A level subjects for the upcoming examinations in October and November for those who feel they could do better than their calculated grades.
• Injection Therapy (Steroid, Viscosupplements) to reduce inflammation and pain. • PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma Preparation) to treat musculoskeletal injuries such as tendons, muscles, and joints. • Botulinum for bunions Injections to relax the adductor Hallucis muscle responsible for pulling the big toe towards the second toe. • Botulinum for hyperhidrosis (Sweaty feet) injections to control the sweat glands.
The IQPlus project, founded in 2009, helps young people facing barriers to improving in education by offering specialist, intensive and holistic support from qualified tutors to address individual needs. The project works on the principle that these young people need short and medium-term incentives and quick, tangible rewards if they are to remain motivated towards achieving sustainable education. IQPlus also aims to provide continual positive reinforcement to build up students’ self-confidence and self-esteem. It is also offering tutoring and additional support for upcoming 2021 exams.
• Prolotherapy Injections to treat musculoskeletal pain including arthritis, tendonitis, and sprained ligaments. • Dry Needling for Verrucas. • Mesotherapy Biopuncture homeopathic injections for Sciatica, Frozen Shoulder, Carpel Tunnel and many other issues. • Electrosurgery used to treat verrucae’s and other skin lesions. • Dermal Fillers Cushioning for feet, for example, allowing the patients with forefoot pain to wear stilettoes.
This year, IQPlus fought on behalf of four of its students who missed out on offers for Medicine by one grade. By contacting universities on behalf of students, combined with the government retreat on grades, many of their students got accepted into their first-choice institutions.
• Microsclerotherapy is a procedure to treat spider veins of foot/leg, which involves injecting sclerosing drug to make them disappear over the time.

Trains4U model shop thrives rather than survives lockdown as popularity of model-making surges Trains4U, one of the leading train model and hobby retailers in the East of England, is thriving in the wake of lockdown. Like many small businesses that rely on footfall, Covid-19 was a serious worry for even the most established of businesses like Trains4U but due to families looking for things to do at home, the Trains4U website boomed. The website, www.trains4u.com, sells model trains, Airfix kits and all manner of goodies to keep children and adults occupied, which sustained business until its doors re-opened. Its staff have worked hard to make the store Covid secure, whilst also dispatching hundreds of parcels every week. The shop is once again open to customers who can browse one of the largest selections of models and accessories in the region, with Scalextric, radio control car kits, plastic kits, discounted games workshop and a mind-boggling selection of new and used model railways spread over two floors. There is something for all ages and budgets. Owner, Gareth Helliwell, adds: "I'd like to thank all of our customers who have been extremely supportive, we have seen a massive surge in popularity for model making of all types since lockdown as families look for alternatives to screens and mobile devices for entertainment. I am looking forward to seeing lots of new visitors over the coming months." Trains4U is open Tuesday–Saturday 10am–5pm and Sunday 10:30am–3:30pm
Tickets cost £46 for a family of four and £2 per pumpkin

Wellbeing AT WELNEY
in your community with CKH Learn how to make a positive impact in your development with Cross Keys Homes (CKH) Did you know that if you live in a Cross Keys Homes (CKH) house, you can have a say in how services are run and what happens in your community? For years, CKH residents have been helping to shape the way things work by providing feedback and working together to make improvements. The housing association was one of the first in the country to create a dedicated Residents Board because there’s no one better to make sure that residents are heard, than residents themselves. This dedicated group puts residents at the centre of decision-making processes and make sure that CKH is always challenged to keep doing better for their customers. From in-depth investigations into how well services meet customers’ needs to choosing improvement projects for local communities, there’s a huge range of ways for residents to get involved depending on your interests, experience and availability. Welney Wetland Centre offers a safe haven of wide open spaces and plenty to improve our sense of wellbeing The importance of having access to outdoor spaces and enjoying what nature has to offer has never been more important. As restrictions increase, flu season creeps in, and now that children are back at school, making the effort to spend time outdoors in nature is great for our physical and mental health. Being amongst nature is amazing for our wellbeing; wetlands, especially, are fantastic for fighting the ‘Winter blues’ as being near water can be hugely beneficial for children and adults alike. Although daylight hours are shortening as we head into Winter, and the weather can become unpredictable, they’re not reasons to shut ourselves away from these magical end-of-year seasons. As long as we dress appropriately, we can enjoy the best of our wonderful, golden Autumn and get to know the many beautiful ducks that winter here in the UK. Now is the best time to learn the different species or just enjoy the variety of plumages. The males are looking especially sharp in their breeding finery, ready for the season ahead. One duck you cannot fail to miss is the pochard – these red-headed diving ducks are often right in front of the main hide, waiting patiently for feeding time. Watch them frantically dive beneath the water’s surface to be the first to reach the grain. To find out more, visit www.wwt.org.uk/wetland-centres/welney

Behind the door of Kip McGrath
Kip McGrath Promotion
If you think tutoring will be of benefit for your child, find out what Kip McGrath has to offer students during this turbulent time Who is behind Kip McGrath?
What do we do?
Gill and Becky are a mother and daughter management team who jointly run two Kip McGrath Centres in Peterborough. We are supported by a host of qualified teachers who all come with a range of experience and expertise. We are Ofsted registered and all our tutors/staff are DBS checked. How do we do this? We personalise each lesson to each individual child and their goal. We can fill in gaps in their knowledge, bring them up to at least age expected levels, encourage independent learning and aim to increase confidence in their own ability. Activities are set to scaffold on already learnt knowledge and activities can be repeated as many times as required until the child is confident. We assess regularly to show progress and communicate this to parents via weekly feedback and termly reports.
We provide tuition for children aged six to 18-years-old in Maths and English (Science for Year 9 – 11). We are proud to support all children with their goals. Some students may need to ‘catch-up and keep-up’, some need support in preparing for exams such as GCSEs, 11+ and SATs, and others just need help with their confidence. Whatever the goal, we are here to help. Are we Covid-19 compliant? Yes! To make our centre safe all our work spaces are socially distanced but we are also carrying out extra cleaning between lessons, creating class bubbles, checking children’s temperatures on arrival and ensuring everyone regularly uses hand sanitiser or washes their hands. If your child is not well enough to attend our centre (or you are self-isolating), then our bespoke website allows for a live lesson to take place from the comfort of your own home.
Online or in-centre lessons? We offer both. Our fantastic services are exactly the same regardless of whether you come to us, or use our bespoke website for online lessons. The tutor is the same, the system is the same and the work is the same! If you prefer online then these lessons require PC/laptop with a webcam and microphone. This is to allow for real time communication with the tutor. Our fully interactive whiteboard allows students and tutors to work seamlessly together as if they were in a classroom environment

g n n i o i Rumble live act gam
Award-winning Rumble Live at Grafham Water has become hugely popular with adults and over eights alike. Term Times talks to its owner Billy Rumble to find out more What is live-action gaming?
Is it only for kids?
a Rumble Live Action Gaming brings to life popular aspects of video games such as Call of Duty and Fortnite with close to 100 different weapons to choose from. Players get the fun of their favourite video games but with lungs full of fresh air, a workout and interaction with real people! The game takes place within acres of beautiful woodland with dozens of hides and sniper towers to create an unforgettable family experience. Kids also like the performance feedback they get at the end of each mission on a big display. As there are no projectiles, it’s not just fun but pain-free too – if you don’t count the muscle ache you might feel the next day!
a Yes - kids from age eight to 80! Rumble appeals to all generations. Mum and Dad love playing as much as the kids and their Grandparents – you can never guess who is going to be the deadliest either. The appeal is broad too: whether children are banzai battlers or the quiet-but-deadly types who find the perfect spot to pick off their prey from long range, the smiles are equally broad at the end. We have also had the pleasure of entertaining kids with special needs.
What does an average game consist of? a We ask players to arrive 30 minutes before their session for a safety briefing to explain all the features of the kit and what you can expect from the one hour of action that follows. At the arena, the group is split into two teams. Once kitted out with headbands and guns, the first of five mission briefings are delivered by the Rumble Rangers who explain the objectives, respawn strategy and the primary and secondary weapons you'll be starting with. Each mission is different and at the end it's back to the Rangers' cabin to check out the stats and scores on the big display.
Sounds like there's some super tech involved! Please tell us more a The tech is mind-boggling but is very userfriendly and tremendously fun. The light burst that comes from the guns is the diameter of a largecalibre bullet, so using the red-dot, holographic scope is a must. The hidden utility boxes hold goodies such as body armour, extra ammo or special weapons. My favourites are the sniper rifle, with its 250m+ range, and a Mini Gun for its devastating 6,000 rounds per minute rate of fire and that 'say hello to my little friend' moment!
such long-range weapons, there is no need for a close-quarters battle either. Most importantly, we sanitise all the equipment before each session and being an outdoor activity reduces the risk.
Any tips for winning?
