Lennons Restaurant My Dining Out Experience
T
his is the fourth invitation Dining Out has happily accepted to enjoy and experience the marvels created by the Team at Lennons...each time surpassing the previous. What a wonderful surprise for Visitors / Tourists and Locals looking for a great dining experience to walk through the glass doors of the Next Hotels at the top of the Queen Street Mall just down from the corner of Queen and George Streets , then up the escalators to the beautifully presented Lennons Restaurant. Let me share with you the variety of DISHES , FLAVOURS and SPECIALITIES we were so very fortunate to experience.
Entrees Crudo of Kingfish With tempura oyster and avocado mousse – just a beautiful combination Twice cooked Belly Pork With octopus & cauliflower puree. The pork belly was moist & delightful. Beef Tartare With pickles, celeriac remoulade topped with egg yolk. This dish is unique & fresh.
Mains Ricotta Gnocchi Served with agli olio, blistered tomatoes & basil. Gnocchi is one of my favourites and I’m sure you will enjoy this dish. Chicken Roulade With tomato sugo, bread sauce and Panfattato. Visually, a beautiful dish and the flavour and presentation did not disappoint. 20
Char-grilled Prawns With Chimmi churri. I love our local prawns and the Chimmi churri made this dish a real standout.
Dessert I must say I normally abstain from overdoing the desserts however these desserts below made it extremely difficult : Strawberry Parfait Aerated chocolate | Hazelnut – you must indulge. Bitter Chocolate Tart Honeycomb | mandarin – it says it all, doesn't it? Sago Pudding Lemon curd | Stepped dates – I really enjoyed the Sago pudding, a real traditional favourite.
A special treat: Dessert Wines I’d like to highlight a special experience that Ian the Restaurant Manager suggested. With each dessert we included an accompanying DESSERT WINE. For example : Noble One Botrytis Semillon [ NSW] With our Strawberry Parfait Pedro Ximenez Valdespino [SP] With our Bitter chocolate Ambra Limoncello [Italy] With our Sago Pudding This was a unique experience which I would recommend as a great way to finish your meal. I sincerely hope this array of beautiful dishes inspires you to accept my recomendation to experience this fantastic restaurant on our doorstep . All ingredients are sourced locally in Australia where possible with the emphasis on FRESHNESS and LOCAL.. The SERVICE was exceptional, as usual, with Ian and Rachael looking after us with the utmost professionalism and they really made us feel special for which they are renowned.
Wines / Cocktails / Beers Lennons has an extensive Wine List for all your requirements - we enjoyed a lovely “Riposte the Dagger” Pinot Noir from the Adelaide Hills , South Australia and their list of Cocktails are also very popular - not to forget their range of Tap Beers and Crafted Beers for the Beer Lover to wet the lips.. Lennons is the perfect place to meet for lunch or dinner whether that romantic rendezvous , Girls day out or even your next business meeting . Il Centro ITALIAN ON EAGLE STREET PIER
Without a doubt the “premier CBD Italian restaurant “ never ceases to impress, with it’s original menu and very comprehensive wine list of which many are imported from Italy and Australian sourced. Situated on the Eagle Street Pier which overlooks the Brisbane River, Il Centro is the perfect spot to enjoy the ambience and wonderful cuisine for which this restaurant has been famous for many years. Il Centro has a very contemporary, modern decor with professional staff to fulfil your every request.
cream. A special presentation - you will enjoy.
On the night, Marco and Camille made us feel very comfortable with their efficient, friendly service and their knowledge of the menu and wine selection was exemplary.
Agnello – lamb shoulder cannelloni with roasted lamb loin, spinach, mint pesto, brussel leaves and roast tomato jus. I love LAMB – a must try dish.
Il Centro has an extensive wine list with cocktail and beer lists a complete selection for any occasion – just ask the staff. PRIMI Carpaccio – grain fed Kimberley red beef carpaccio with horseradish mousse, broad beans and asparagus salad – this dish is a raw red beef served beautifully – you must try. BBQ Octopus – marinated octopus with celeriac puree, confit heirloom tomatoes, crispy capers lemon dressing – the marinated process ensures a tasty dish.
Risotto – slow cooked beef cheek served with truffle, porcini mushroom risotto & shaved pecorino romano – a very tasty dish particularly for risotto lovers. SECONDI
DESSERT Crostata al Cloccolata – valronha cold set dark chocolate tart with peanut brittle gelato and salted caramel sauce – beautiful. Panna Cotta – vanilla bean panna cotta with raspberry sorbet, macaroon and macerated strawberries. This dish is perfect! I list our degustation especially to provide the readers of Dining Out ,whether visitors, tourists or locals, a real look at what Il Centro is all about for lunch or dinner. ENJOY – GODERE.
PASTE E RISOTTO Lasagne alla Granseola – Il Centro’s famous sand crab lasagne with creamed crustacean sauce. You MUST TRY this “signature” dish – wonderful! Gnocchi con Zucca – fried ricotta gnocchi with caramelised pumpkin, sage and toasted almond 22

ANGELINA DOORSAMY “South African foodie”
“The Grand Old Lady” of the Brisbane River gave us a wonderful dining experience which included only the best service and food delights. The Regatta Hotel’s Boatshed restaurant is spacious and wonderfully ambient with a focus on premium quality food and service. In 2015, the Boatshed restaurant was awarded the prestigious title of ‘Best Restaurant in Queensland,’ as judged by the Queensland Hotel’s Association. The Boatshed is centrally located on the Brisbane River in Toowong and is easily accessible by road, rail and the river’s City Cat. Toowong is an inner west suburb, conveniently located only four kilometres from the Brisbane CBD.
While the Boatshed is renowned as a very popular steakhouse, there is a great variety of food styles available for every discerning diner. The menu includes items such as duck parpadelle pasta, Middle Eastern lamb and other dishes, with a great choice of side dishes and steak toppers. Dry aged beef is another popular feature for the Boatshed, a method of preparing beef in a traditional way that ensures flavour and tenderness. Upon arrival, our maître d' Michael looked after our every request with the warmth and professionalism the Boatshed is renowned for.

This was our dining experience:
DESSERT:
ENTREES:
I’m sure by this point you are feeling hungry - let me continue to motivate you with our dessert choices!
These entrees blew us away! We had: Salt and Pepper Baby Squid, with rocket leaves, lemon & aioli. Beautiful.
Chocolate Macadamia & Salted Caramel Tart, served with vanilla bean ice-cream and a chocolate cigar. Enough said - the next move is yours.
Twice Cooked Pork Belly, celeriac and apple slaw, blackberry jus and watercress. Very tender and as tasty as it sounds!
Chocolate brownie with cherry compote, coconut & chocolate crumbs with cherry ripe gelato. YUM!
Battered Bug Tails with pickled Asian salad, char sui dipping sauce & lemon. This was a must. A very special dish. MAINS: For the mains we decided to try the best steak in Brisbane, as well as the Boatshed’s ‘Local Market Fish’. The ‘OP Rib - on the bone’ was served with roast capsicum, tomato, herb and onion pickle. Guests can choose from either hand cut chips or baked potato with sour cream & chives and a choice of sauce. It was succulent and cooked to perfection.
While perusing the menus it was clear the Boatshed has a very extensive wine list with a diverse range of local and international wines. There are also an excellent variety of cocktails and beer options. I invite you to have our experience at the Regatta’s Boatshed Restaurant. I couldn’t think of a better place to recommend for a great dining experience for lunch or dinner with the fantastic river views at no extra cost.
The ‘Local Market Fish’ of the day was schnapper, grilled with garden salad, lemon and thick cut chips. While I love fish as much as steak, this fish dish was the perfect choice to accompany the OP Rib on the Bone as we share our dishes.

BRAZILIAN BBQ What a night! We experienced a fantastic cuisine in a wonderful restaurant where service is paramount. The Brazilian BBQ style of restaurant is known for its “all you can eat” degustation set menu. During our meal the waiters kept bringing BBQ skewers—carving these meats in front of us at the table but allowing us time to take a break if required to pace ourselves. Sensational, mouth watering beef, pork, lamb, chicken, fish and prawns over and over again during the night with many side dishes also available. This authentic Brazilian BBQ experience at NAVALA has a flavour and flair that will capture the imagination of any food lover. I should also mention the ambience of the restaurant—modern and open with several private rooms for groups and the fantastic position overlooking the Brisbane River with views from the Story Bridge to the Kangaroo Point Cliffs, which makes your dining experience even more special.

Bon appetit—Bom apetite!
Let me share with you our degustation at Navala... We started with a cocktail from the extensive list available. I recommend the national cocktail of Brazil, the Caipirinha, a combination of muddled lime and sugar, Cachaca, served on the rocks in a caipirinha glass. I loved it! You must try it. 32

D E ERY’S RE STAUR ANT A beautiful Brisbane landmark positioned under the famous Story Bridge, Kangaroo Point. An old world charm combined with a contemporary look.
The Story Bridge Hotel is easily assessable by road or river City Cat, and for the lucky diners living or staying locally, a short stroll. If you are staying in the CBD or surrounding areas, the Story Bridge is only a short trip away. On our arrival at Deery’s Restaurant and Smokehouse one of the first things we noticed was what a lovely ambience the restaurant oozed. From the beautiful polished floors, high ceilings, timber tables and chairs to the lovely upholstered high back chairs and authentic lighting. It is an absolute picture. We were seated at a table that had a fantastic view over the river to the illuminated high rise CBD buildings. It is spectacular. The service during the degustation was very friendly and professional with our

host Donovan, the restaurant manager. He guided us through the food menu and wine list with expertise.
Eye fillet with pommes lyonnaise and grilled feta—the eye fillet melted in our mouth—succulent and cooked to perfection.
We started with a cocktail from the extensive selections at Deery’s. The wine list is also very significant.

Smoked Quail—sau’teed quail’s breast, pickled pears, witlof, parsnip crisps and pain d’epices crumb. The presentation was excellent and the smoked quail was exquisite.
A point of difference at Deery’s is the wood smoke flavours to their signature dishes. Smoking elements of the dishes brings an entirely new flavour dimension to cooking , one that will surely have you salivating for more..
Smokehouse Platter—bread, lavosh, house-marinated olives, house made dip, Iberico de Bellota (24-month cured jamon), crumbed pork “schnitzel” slaw. This platter is a wonderful surprise, full of many flavours. A great way to start your meal. M A IN S Smoked pork cutlet with apple puree, quince, slow cooked organic carrots in star anise, pangrittata and charcutiere jus. You must try this dish! The smoked flavour came through beautifully, making this very special. Roast sovereign lamb with provencale vegetables and lamb jus—a large serve of perfectly cooked lamb rack. A must try!
Crème brule with mango— perfect texture.
Deery’s is famous for it’s steaks, however the variety available is also impressive eg: duck - fish - prawns - chicken. The dishes are all very generous serves and well priced. You cannot go past Deery’s for lunch or dinner. Bon Appetite!

Kabuki
“THAT’S ENTERTAINMENT“ Not just a Japanese restaurant, but a show of talent and skill. Kabuki is part of the Stamford Plaza Hotel and is easy to find at the Margaret Street side of the hotel. A hidden gem for the sizzling drama of Teppanyaki and for a traditional à la carte, cultural Japanese experience. You can enjoy a range of the freshest, local ingredients of meats, seafood and vegetable dishes while the show which encompasses Teppanyaki entertains you. Our chef on the night, Alfie, was most friendly and had us in stitches from time to time with his antics. His dedication to his profession was obvious, not to mention the perfection in the dishes he created. Let me share with you our 40
wonderful night at Kabuki. We were invited to enjoy the special menu, “Nadeshiko”. ENTREE Karaage – Japanese fried chicken with lemon. Very tasty! Pork gyoza – very unique, succulent and yummy. Fresh sashimi – we love sashimi – it was exceptionally fresh and perfect. TEPPANYAKI Prawn, salmon, scallop, Moreton Bay bug, chicken and beef – magnificent! All sizzling fresh and cooked to perfection. Absolutely a must try. Fried rice – this complimented our choices. Stir-fried vegetables – a great balance to accompany what went before.
DESSERT Black Sesame ice-cream and green tea ice-cream. Kabuki has an extensive list of red and white wines, champagne, local beers, imported Japanese beers, spirits and not to mention many choices of imported Sake. Their service has all the hallmarks of Japanese efficiency – warm, friendly and professional. I would very much like to thank Alfie, our chef, and restaurant manager, Chan, for a wonderful night. Without hesitation as I often say, if you are a visitor or local, book into Kabuki and you will enjoy. Bon appetite – gochisosama deshita.

ENTREES Crispy squid with rice flour, thai Chilli, coriander/ lime dressing and Asian slaw – the squid was perfect and the chilli, coriander and lime makes a beautiful accompaniment. Baked pumpkin and ricotta gnocchi, blistered tomatoes, white wine cream, grana padano – you will enjoy this dish. Cured pork belly, yuzu, edamame beans, pickled ginger, spiced pork crackling – say no more. A must try!
Braised wagyu beef cheek, parmesan polenta, dutch carrots, roasted beetroot, horseradish cream – I loved the vegetables which really complimented the tasty cheeks. Market fish of the day – crispy skin Barramundi with truffle cream orecchiette, grilled broccolini and charred lime. This fish dish was beautiful! DESSERTS Tonka bean panna cotta, hazelnut biscotti, confit orange, white chocolate, espresso caramel sauce – panna cotta is one of my favourites – a must try! Lindt bittersweet chocolate fondant, raspberry gel, vanilla bean gelato and fresh berries. The Jetty South Bank has an extensive list of wines, cocktails, beers, dessert wines to cater for every occasion. The service was friendly and very helpful. I would like to thank David for all his assistance in ensuring our night was special. I can recommend the Jetty South Bank for lunch/ dinner to all visitors /tourists and locals alike. ENJOY!
MAINS Grilled Portuguese chicken, green beans, spicy corn salsa, cucumber yoghurt – this dish is very innovative. The grilled chicken is supplemented by the very tasty salsa and yoghurt.

Centrally located in the Emporium precinct, Ann Street Fortitude Valley, ensures an easy access for Visitors or Locals in Brisbane. Vine Leaf wrapped barramundi fillets chargrilled with hummus, parsley, artichoke and olive oil—this is a traditional dish which is refreshingly different. The fish was beautiful. Spiced lamb shanks with pearl couscous, tomato, cucumber, onion and parsley. Let me say again, I love lamb and this dish is beautiful with the middle eastern twist. Tunisian salmon fillet served with pearl couscous, rocket, fetta, tomato and lemon—A MUST TRY.
If you enjoy the best of the Mediterranean, you will certainly appreciate the extensive selections available at Mecca Bah. The serves are generous and overall a very inexpensive place to have a great meal, either lunch or dinner 7 days a week.
Moroccan couscous and shrimp salad with tomato, cucumber and corn— the shrimp were to die for! The flavours were wonderful—A MUST TRY.
Let me share with you our degustation at Mecca Bah recently:
A great choice of these award winning Pizzas—we enjoyed:
We started with a very cool cocktail—a Marrakish Kiss. Mecca Bah has an extensive wine and cocktail list to choose from for every occasion. The tap and packaged beers will please all beer lovers.
Cauliflower, merguez sausage , roasted capsicum, fetta and tomato sauce—the pizzas are very tasty, good size and well priced. That’s the trifecta!
ENTREES Morrocan potato cakes filled with goats cheese and pinenuts—very tasty. Fried Moroccan cauliflower served with crushed pinenuts and tahini sauce—the tahini and pinenut combination is delicious. Spicey Lamb and pinenut boureks—I love lamb and the spicey ingredient is superb. Baked Haloumi with pomegranate , mint salad and lemon—the Haloumi is a must! You will love it. 46

The Walnut Restaurant & Lounge Bar ELEGANT - CHARMING - SIMPLE - FANTASTIC
The newly refurbished Walnut Restaurant & Lounge Bar at the Royal on the Park is looking fantastic. With an intimate warm ambience highlighted by the fire place, new very cosy chairs and the floor to ceiling glass walls creates a very open room with views to the Botanical Gardens in Alice Street.
So central, so easy to find and so enjoyable. So worth the effort to seek out the Walnut Restaurant in the landmark, Royal on the Park, one of Brisbane’s iconic accommodation venues. For our dining experience at the Walnut Restaurant, we asked our host, Rudy, for his suggestions and he didn’t disappoint. I started with a cocktail from their extensive cocktail list. How does a Toblerone sound? Frangelico, Kahlua, Bailey, honey, milk, Belgian chocolate shavings – all mixed together! Absolutely magnificent...you should try one. ENTREES Atlantic salmon gravlax with celeric remoulade, salmon pearls – this dish is the Chef’s special, marinating the salmon in gin to give it a very special flavour.
Our host Rudy spoilt us by cooking our dessert at our table, a beautiful Crêpe Suzette, flambe’ed tableside, served with Grand Marnier, orange, candied zest and double cream. I’ll say no more – you MUST try. WINES With our meal we enjoyed a Grant Berge “Cameron Vale” Cabernet Sauvignon 2012 from the Barrosa Valley, South Australia. This recommendation by Rudy was superb and selected from the very extensive lists of wines / cocktails / beers and champagne available for all occasions. The service from Rudy and staff was exceptional with knowledge, warmth and efficiency.
Hokkaido scallops with jamon, cauliflower purée and salsa verde – truly rich in flavour.
I suggest seeking out the Walnut Restaurant for your next dining experience and it will be a wonderful surprise.

MY DINING OUT
experience
Manhattan Line
“The vibe is hip, the menu savvy and tasty street food to boot.
Cast as an NYC whiskey bar by its creators, this drawcard Little Stanley Street shopfront is truly a little gem - and not just for a whiskey, beer or a yarn. Folks, step right in to this highdecibel, whiskey-infused canteen-style space replete with bar, whiskey bottle reserved markers and a relaxed vibe. Utilitarian USA sets the tone for your meal at this all-American nose-to-tail whiskey bar, boasting a food menu of Jalapeno Poppers (aka bacon wrapped jalapenos stuffed with a mozzarella sauce), amazingly tasty Buffalo Chicken wings, and an amazing Double Cheeseburger (2 Beef Patties, American Cheese and Pickles) had me reminiscing of my time in New York earlier in the year. Local denizens swap weekly tales gnawing on a Kansas City Hot Dog, which is made up of a Pork Frank, sauerkraut, Swiss Cheese and mustard whilst guzzling on a house Manhattan Skyscraper or one of the many Beer Varieties on Tap.
60
The food may not look prettiest but it sure is tasty. The Jalapeno Poppers were my favourite and I would have happily demolished them by myself. If you are looking for a casual, hip and relaxed vibe to have a drink and refuel with some tasty (spicy) and simple food, Manhattan Line is the place for you.

THE DUNES COURAN COVE
“DINING in PARADISE” High on the sand dunes overlooking the ocean, on beautiful South Stradbroke Isalnd, COURAN COVE is just a short drive from Brisbane.
Rodger Kuhn Publisher Recently we spent the weekend at COURAN COVE. Not only did we enjoy the beautiful delights of THE DUNES RESTAURANT - we also had the opportunity to check out all the Resort amenities. WHAT A SURPRISE! Couran Cove is a fantastic Resort with accommodation units sitting on the water, things to do like kayaking, tennis, cycling, indoor bowls, basketball, squash, mini golf, indoor games centre, swimming, bush walks, a day spa, surfing and a lot more. This is a wonderful place for the FAMILY, COUPLES, BOATIES and anyone looking for a great weekend of activities, not to mention an opportunity to dine at a fantastic restaurant. 64
Let me excite your senses with many of the beautiful dishes created by the team at Dunes led by Head Chef Max Horley. To get to The Dunes was an adventure in itself - a short RESORT TRAIN ride across the island, then WOW - what a spot - high on the dunes overlooking the beautiful Pacific Ocean, there’s the restaurant blending in with the magnificent environment with its alfresco architecture, and with views to Surfers Paradise and beyond.
ON ARRIVAL: We enjoyed a glass of Verve Champagne to get our evening started, followed by these magnificent dishes: NZ OYSTERS - topped with Yuzu pearls for an intense flavor explosion - absolutely memorable. JAPANESE SCALLOPS - with a fine cut salad of fennel and brussel sprout sharpened with lime and saffron vinaigrette - smoothed out with velvety mango gel - just beautiful! NZ KING SALMON - cured in gin and citrus flavours - you must try this dish.
One memorable dessert to refresh the palate was the COCONUT PANNA COTTA - Velvety panna cotta is smooth contrasted with crisp roasted coconut shards and popping candy, some berries and mango - another must try - absolutely fantastic!
SERVICE: The service provided by Mitchell, our waiter, was warm and efficient throughout the evening and a highlight was a chat with Head Chef Max at the end of our degustation - I had the opportunity to personally congratulate him on the menu.
WINES / COCKTAILS / BEERS: The Dunes has an extensive list of wines, cocktails and beers for the discerning diner. On the night we enjoyed several Verse1 Shiraz 2014 from the Margaret River WA. Once again I cannot speak more complimentary of Couran Cove and especially The Dunes Restaurant I would recommend you make the short trip to enjoy everything available - I can’t wait to get back to COURAN COVE.
BRAISED PORK BELLY - braised in soy with apple juice added ripe pineapple, chili, coriander and lime - melts in your mouth - another must try. BLACK STOCK CHICKEN - with crisp textures - poached chicken breast in a soy masterstock including ginger and lemongrass - smoothed out with cream fraiche also adding nashi pear with watercress. LAMB LOIN - a boneless loin with garlic, thyme and rosemary - one of my favorites - I LOVE LAMB. WAGYU BEEF STEAK - with beetroot, tarragon and mushrooms complement this beautiful sirloin steak. Tarragon butter oozes over the meat with a beetroot vinegar is added to cut through any fat content - a truly special dish and presented beautifully.
