President, Lund Boats Dirk Hyde Marketing Director Jason Oakes

Constructing a Heritage I’m constantly reminded of Lund’s 66-year heritage. I see it in grainy photographs in our archives of anglers proudly displaying their stringers of fish. I see it in the Lunds that come through our dealers for a minor tune up nearly 40 years after first leaving the factory floor. I see it in co-workers—some who came to the company right out of school and have stayed for decades. But a company doesn’t have a heritage simply because of time. A company builds its heritage bit by bit through a singular ambition to craft the highest quality product possible. At Lund, our heritage doesn’t come solely from the past. It comes from an innovative focus on the future.

“At Lund, our heritage doesn’t come solely from the past. It comes from an innovative focus on the future.”

That’s why as we begin the 2014 model year, you will see several major upgrades, not just to our six new models— like the 2075 Tyee Magnum with its expansive 10-person cockpit, or the 208 Tyee GL with its sleek fiberglass finish. Across the Lund lineup, we’re adding new upholstery and paint options, as well as an interior refresh of the Impact Series, which will include new consoles. These changes and innovations come from a Lund philosophy which courses through the veins of this company. With a core employee base of passionate anglers, we’re building the boats we want to fish out of. This means we approach the design and construction process with personal know-how, modifying every detail of our work to create the ultimate on-water experience. We call this process the “Lund Difference,” and as you’ll find out on page 16, it drives everything we do, from the initial design to the final touches on the factory floor. Our customers have noticed the Lund Difference as well. Like Duncan McEwen and Chad Schilling, two professional fishing guides who count on their Lunds everyday to run successful businesses. You can read more about their Lund devotion on page 6. Or the Sturgess brothers in Vermont, who strengthen their family bond while catching fish in their 1775 Impact Sport. Read more on page 10. Over six decades, Lund has helped shape countless stories like the ones you will read in the following pages. They weave into our heritage. That’s because Lund has a storied past, a fact that only makes me more excited for our future. Dirk Hyde President, Lund Boats

FIRST Gear, news and ideas to deliver the ultimate fishing experience.

Photo Finish Beautiful boats make beautiful photos. For more than 30 years, Bill Lindner has captured fishing action and photogenic Lunds from behind his camera lens. In January, the National Freshwater Fishing Hall of Fame inducted Bill for his work, which has appeared in national outdoors and sporting magazines. Bill snapped this photo for the cover of Lund’s 2005 catalogue in full scuba gear while holding his breath so he did not disturb the ripples of the water. He says the perfect fishing photo isn’t staged and captures a moment. Of course, a Lund in the background makes for an even more memorable shot. Photo courtesy of Bill Lindner.

MR. BIG

STUFF Big water invites some of the most exhilarating fishing: trolling for salmon or trout, raiding structure for walleye. Enter your perfect host—the big water, big crew 2075 Tyee. The 2075 Tyee, at 20'8", will fit up to nine guests comfortably and stow all your gear easily so that everyone onboard can focus on reeling in prize trophies...even in the big stuff.

TAKE CHARGE Late in the season, the weather can turn in an instant. When brewing storms bring rough chop, the DieHard AGM Platinum Marine & RV battery powers through. This battery was designed specifically to perform at optimal levels in the rough-and-tumble conditions out on the water. The corrosion-resistant brass terminals inside the casing ensure your Lund or RV will start in any weather, while the rugged military-grade protective shell provides superior vibration resistance. When it’s time to pack in at the end of the season, the plates made of 99.99 percent virgin lead have up to 30 percent more reserve capacity (than spiral AGM batteries) so your battery doesn’t lose recharge or start-up efficiency the next time you put your Lund in the water. No matter the conditions, the DieHard Platinum Marine and RV Battery will power your next adventure.

BEFORE IT’S TOO LATE Last October, Hurricane Sandy devestated the East Coast, leaving unprepared boat owners with minimal options to repair or replace their vessel. Boat insurance is not required, but as the summer season winds down, Progressive wants to remind you about the importance of keeping your boat, and those on it, properly protected. Don’t let extreme weather catch you off guard. Now is the time to ask your agent or insurer about these special lines of coverage: Total Loss Replacement: If your boat is damaged beyond repair, your insurer will buy you a brand new one. Wreckage Removal: Whether your boat’s at the bottom of the bay or on your neighbor’s front porch, your insurer will haul it away, leaving you to care for what’s really important after a devastating storm. With Progressive boat insurance, you and your boat will never be stranded after severe weather strikes. Learn more about discounts at www.progressive.com. Coverage and policy features not available in all states or situations.

Story by Kit Fox | Photos by Bill Lindner

Shoreside Gourmet Elevate your shore lunch with island recipes from Ontario’s Lake of the Woods. TEACH A MAN TO FISH AND HE WILL NEVER GO HUNGRY A DAY IN HIS LIFE. Teach a man to cook that fish properly—with sautéed side dishes, hand-cut vegetables and golden brown batter—and he will live those days licking the grease off his fingers, smiling the whole time. On many of the 14,000 islands in the Lake of the Woods water system, fishing guide Duncan McEwen has perfected the art of the shore lunch (find out more about Duncan’s story on page 6). He’s elevated the typical beans-and-corn fare to a fine dining experience that his clients enjoy while lounging in the sun after a morning of fishing. “It’s awfully quiet in my boat during the afternoon,” Duncan says. “Most people have overeaten and their motivation takes a nosedive.” Ready to improve your shore lunch? Find out how Duncan has transformed the midday meal into a midday feast. Duncan’s Tips for a Fantastic Fillet • The difference between a stellar main dish and a flop often comes down to the quality of the fillet. Duncan’s key to a delicious bone-free meal is removing the often-ignored pin bones from the top of the fish. To extract these tiny pieces of the skeletal structure, the last step in the cleaning process should be cutting out a center strip of the fillet running the width of the middle vein. • While Duncan refuses to divulge his secret batter recipe, he says the trick to a perfect fry is keeping the oil hot—around 350 degrees—and leveling the pan so the fish are completely submerged. • To prevent “coiling” (curling up at the ends), put the side of the fillet that used to have skin down on the pan first. Cook on either side until the crust is golden brown and the meat begins to flake. Duncan’s Wild Rice Medley Wild Rice Cubed Bacon Red, Green and Yellow Peppers Mushrooms Salt and Pepper Lawry’s Seasoning Salt The night before your trip, cook a package of wild rice, put it into a plastic bag and refrigerate until it’s time to load your Lund. Also, before hitting the water, dice all of the vegetables and cube the bacon. Right before lunchtime, cook the cubed bacon in a hot pan.

4 | LUND

Drain most of the liquid fat, but leave enough to coat the pan surface. Sauteé the diced vegetables with the bacon for eight to 10 minutes, until they begin to soften. Add the wild rice and stir while adding salt, pepper and Lawry’s Seasoning Salt to taste. Serve when the rice is hot. Hand-Cut Fries Potatoes Lawry’s Seasoning Salt The night before, peel and slice enough potatoes to feed your party. To rinse the slices thoroughly, submerge them completely in water and drain. Repeat three times. Place the rinsed potatoes in a sealable container full of water in the refrigerator overnight. At the lunch site, drain the potatoes and submerge them in hot oil. Let them cook until golden brown, which takes about 30 minutes. Drain the fries and immediately add Lawry’s Seasoning Salt. Clean your fish as the fries are cooking and use the same oil to fry the fillets. Pickled Onions Ringed Sweet Onions Rice or White Wine Vinegar ½ Cup Vegetable Oil ½ Cup Sugar 1 Tablespoon Dry Dill The night before the trip, fill a sealable container about ²⁄³ full with vinegar. Mix well with vegetable oil, sugar and dill. Completely submerge sweet onions in container, seal and refrigerate until morning. Drain onions before serving. Drizzle vinegar mixture over fried fish or fries for extra tanginess.

HERE ARE MOMENTS YOU’LL NEVER FORGET:

THE FIRST TIME YOU HAD TO USE BOTH HANDS TO HOLD A FISH UP FOR THE CAMERA, THAT 10-POUND WALLEYE YOUR BEST FRIEND BATTLED FOR 30 MINUTES OR THE LOOK ON YOUR SON’S FACE WHEN HIS FIRST FISH BITES.

These moments are currency for professional fishing guides Chad Schilling and Duncan McEwen. Their success is measured by an uncountable number of extraordinary interactions on the water. That’s why they need a boat that can catch fish, foster relationships and guarantee a fantastic day. That’s why they need their Lunds—for unforgettable memories. Duncan likes to say walleye pay the bills. When he started the guiding outfit Blue Heron Lake Tours three years ago, they became loyal patrons—succumbing to his sales pitch on the end of a fishing rod. A rod that’s cast by the fathers, sons, friends, new fishermen and experienced anglers he guides in his Lund Alaskan on Lake of the Woods in Ontario. Around noon on most days between May and November, you’ll find him preparing lunch on one of the 14,500 islands spanning the water system. He mixes wild rice and bacon into a stir-fry, slices potatoes into fresh-cut fries and heats a pan for the meal’s star—fried walleye, caught early in the day by the customers now lounging on warm rocks nearby. “I’ve never had a guest who hasn’t had a feast

of walleye,” Duncan says. “On Lake of the Woods, it’s not a matter of if you are going to catch fish, it’s a matter of when.” Usually that’s minutes after a quarter-ounce jig and minnow break the surface. Of course, he adds, that’s only true if you know where you’re going and have the right boat to get you there. Six hundred miles across the border, on Lake Oahe in South Dakota, professional angler and fishing guide Chad Schilling knows he has the right boat. He purchased his first fiberglass Lund 208 Pro-V GL in 2011. In 2012 he won FLW angler of the year. That’s not a coincidence, he’ll tell you. “I’ve been in a bunch of boats over the years but that son of a gun is like driving a BMW,” Chad says. “Everything is in the right spot. Everything is convenient.” Chad started guiding full time when he was 18. Now, at 37, he owns a fishing lodge in Akaska, South Dakota—a snowbird town of 30 in the winter and 300 in the summer. The population grows between May and July when Chad’s Lund trolls Lake Oahe for walleye with families from around the country.

“I’ve seen so many people catch their first fish,” he says. “I love when a 40-year-old man has to open the livewell 30 times in a day to look at the one he caught. They think I don’t notice. They wait until I turn around and they sneak away and open the well just like my sixyear-old son would. I love that.” Those moments—like the sheer joy of watching a new fisherman pull a live catch out of the water—are why Duncan reached a career crossroads in 2010. Back then, he owned a gas station, pulling long hours behind a counter. Fishermen would buy bait while he topped off their tanks. In the early mornings, trailered boats rolled up to the pump—their last stop before slipping into the lake. Duncan realized he didn’t want an office behind a cash register. He wanted one on the water. But before he could fulfill his newly realized career aspirations, before he could open the doors to Blue Heron Lake Tours, before he could create the menu to his famous shore lunch, he needed the proper boat. “I’m a homework type of guy; I research too much before I make a decision,” Duncan explains.

Fishing guides Chad Schilling (center) and Duncan McEwan (opposite and top) help first-time anglers discover the thrill of the catch aboard their Lunds.

The only boat to pass his strict qualifications was the Lund Alaskan. “I love my Lund because it does the job very well,” Duncan says. “I can count on it day in and day out.” And he does, pushing the aluminum hull through 110 days a year of hard use so his clients have a fantastic time, every time. Fishing guides demand a lot from their boat. They have to or they’d be out of a job. For Duncan, the Lund Alaskan became his ticket to a successful career. It fit his needs so well that he was sure it was designed specifically for guiding. The boat is spacious and durable enough to take an entire family out every day of the season. Families don’t need to bring anything when he picks them up from the dock at 8 a.m. on a summer morning. The coolers with lunch ingredients and fishing gear are already packed inside the bow storage while rods rest in holders on both sides of the boat. Behind the tinted windshield at the console, Duncan scouts for another hot spot. Once the fish start biting, which he guarantees will happen, the 18-gallon livewell keeps the walleye fresh until they reach the sizzling pan in the afternoon. Chad’s ticket to success came wrapped in a fiberglass hull. Down on Lake Oahe, his 208 Pro-V faces a unique challenge. As a professional

“People don’t really believe they’re going to catch anything. When it happens, they just sit there in shock. It’s the greatest thing.”

———— angler and Lund Pro-Staff member, he needs prime fishing features to stay competitive in tournaments. But as a guide, he needs ample room for friends and families to fish together. Chad thought tournament boats and guide boats had to stay separate, until he found the Lund 208 Pro-V GL. The 16-gallon fore and 26-gallon aft livewells have held a toddler’s first fish and a tournament winning walleye. The fiberglass hull has carried families to picnics and hunted trophy fish across an entire water system. First-time fishermen and Chad himself, the 2012 FLW angler of the year, have sat in the bow and stern pedestal seats. “I have all the room in the world in the back, but I can have my ‘office’ for tournaments in the front,” Chad says. “It’s the perfect combination of both.” For a guy who’s reeled in thousands of fish— some that have won him thousands of dollars— there’s still something magical about watching a client haul in their first catch.

“People come and they don’t really believe they’re going to catch anything,” Chad says. “When it happens, they just sit there in shock. Sometimes I don’t get to put the fish in the livewell for what seems like an eternity because they can’t believe it happened.” Chad and Duncan guide their clients to that emotion. Their job is to give people the shock and joy from holding a fish that a moment ago was swimming in an impossibly large body of water. “It’s the greatest thing in the world,” Chad says. “I can’t explain how good my life is.” A gas station attendant left his job and a professional angler shares his boat because they want people to feel the tug on a line after a strike and taste a meal not purchased at a store. Aboard their Lunds, as they watch another client grasp another fish and smile for another photo, they see their business isn’t just about catching fish, it’s about providing unfor-

— But fate had its own ideas about brotherly bonding. For Father’s Day in 2011, it put Colin, Martin and their fresh-off-the-line Lund right into the local fishing hall of fame. “We entered the Lake Champlain International on a whim,” Colin says of the annual tournament. “We’d just gotten the Lund and halfjokingly thought, ‘Why not?’” It was the 30th anniversary of the event, with nearly 5,000 entries, so the lake was packed with veterans. “It was all new to us,” Martin says through a big smile. “We were just having a good time.” But then after day one, the pair started receiving texts from family and friends who were hearing event updates about “the Sturgess brothers” on the radio. “We knew we’d hooked a couple big fish,” Colin says, “but when we found out we were the leaders it was a huge surprise.” That fine Sunday, Colin hauled in the winning 8.5-pound, 29-inch walleye, and Martin hooked the 4th place fish. Colin had won the walleye category, but the combined score aboard the Impact made them Grand Champions. “We won quite a lot of money, plus a bonus prize—a brand-new fishing boat,” Colin laughs. “Which we subsequently sold because it was nowhere near the boat the Lund is.” The Sturgess brothers grew up in the Northeast, and during warm summers the boys were known to drown a few worms at the local docks. As grown men with families and careers in dif-

ferent states (Martin, a tennis pro, is based in Pittsburg, while Colin, an operations manager for Terry Precision Bicycles, resides in Essex, Vermont), they returned to fishing as a way to spend some time together. “It started with a canoe,” Martin says. “We used to spend days on end fishing from the canoe and talking.” “For weeks,” Colin adds. “Like, all day— 12 hours sitting in a canoe.” The brothers say three years ago they wound up at an outdoor show and saw the Lund Impact

on display. “It just seemed to be the perfect boat for the kind of fishing we like to do,” Colin says. He cites the Impact’s sheltering consoles, front and rear casting platforms and massive storage as favorite features. “I think we said something like, ‘Oh, it’d be kinda nice to have that one day.’ And how much later did we buy it?’” he asks Martin. “A couple months?” “It was a dream,” Martin says, “and then all of a sudden it was ‘Why not?’ Why not live the dream while we can enjoy it?”

lu.fa13.vermont_Layout 1 10/3/13 4:19 PM Page 14

—— The brothers were not only hoping for more guy time, they also realized their mutual families would now be able to join in on the fun. “It was a great way to get our adult kids interested in time with their dads,” Colin says. The entire Sturgess clan, including Martin’s son, Ian; daughter, Dru; stepsons, Andrew and Robert; Colin’s daughter, Julia, and son, Dylan, have all come to love time on the Lund, though none more than Colin and Martin’s 85-year-old mother. “She loves coming out on the boat,” Colin says. “She really enjoys watching the sunsets from the water. And she loves to go fast,” he laughs. “At least as fast as we can go without her hearing aids flying out of her ears!” It was Martin who purchased the Impact, with the agreement that Colin would care for it. “I think I’m the winner in that,” Martin jokes of his arrive-and-fish arrangement. “And it just grew from there. I loved my trips up to Lake Champlain so much, Colin and I started looking at lake houses so it could be even more of a family thing.” Just like the Lund purchase, their casual “wouldn’t it be nice” idea quickly became a reality. By their second season with the Impact, Martin had purchased a charming cabin on the lakeshore, complete with a dock and covered boat lift. “It just kind of snowballed into this great family thing,” Martin says. “And it all started with the Lund.”

Lake Champlain, which lies on the U.S. border next to Ontario, is the sixth largest body of fresh water in North America. But even though it’s 125 miles long, it’s only 14 miles across at its widest, and so it mostly freezes over during the cold New England winters. This prevented it from becoming a part of the Great Lakes seaway system, a blessing for recreational boaters. Fishing is the biggest draw here, with the lake offering up plenty of salmon, lake trout, bass, northern pike, walleye, bowfin, catfish and sheepshead. “There’s even sturgeon in the lake,” Colin says, “though they’re protected.” Surely it was a sturgeon that the lake’s namesake, Captain Champlain, spotted in 1609 when he reported a lake monster with silver-gray scales and “sharp and dangerous teeth.” Though the walleye Colin and Martin catch look a lot like little lake monsters themselves. Colin gives daughter Julia a lesson in dealing with the needle-sharp teeth as they share a little father-daughter time trawling among Champlain’s rocky shoals. The 23-year-old, freshly graduated from Syracuse University, might be grossed out by the ugly fish, but she watches her dad adoringly, whiling away the afternoon in the Impact’s plush driver’s seat, chatting about this and that, laughing and catching up. The profusion of fishing opportunities on Lake Champlain is enough to keep the brothers busy during the summers. “It takes a lot of practice,”

they say about their now-annual preparations for the Lake Champlain International Fishing Derby. “Or at least that’s what we tell our wives,” Martin says. “Exactly,” Colin adds with a wink. “It’s all skill. Nothing to do with luck.” When it comes to winning an international fishing derby, a little luck certainly doesn’t hurt, but having the right fishing boat is essential. “Our Lund is really versatile, and I love that,” Martin says. The brothers find themselves out fishing on rough, windy days as often as those idyllic warm, blue-sky days for which Vermont summers are known. The Impact’s twin consoles and deep cockpit area provide terrific protection from the elements. “It feels like a hybrid,” Martin says. “Like a lot of different boats in one.” “And we fish off-season,” Colin adds, “so we appreciate that the boat is safe, that we don’t have to worry about it.” The only room for improvement? Perhaps a few more feet, now that so many family members want to join in on the fishing fun. “We are thinking about moving up to a slightly larger version of this boat,” Martin hints. “And when we do, we’ll buy a larger boat in the Lund line, that’s for certain.” And judging by the brothers’ “let’s live the dream while we can enjoy it” boat-buying attitude, they’re probably out fishing on their next Lund right about now.

Here: Brothers Colin and Martin Sturgess happily reap the benefits of Lake Champlain’s abundant fish population.

Dit  a Lu Way We call our design and construction process the Lund Difference. We refine and evolve because we’re different—because we’re not just building a boat. We’re handcrafting a Lund.

lu.fa13.lund_difference_Layout 1 10/3/13 3:44 PM Page 18

T Hu The foundation of a Lund starts with the hull. It’s what separates you from the water. It’s what gets you exactly where you need to be with precise control and unequaled durability. We call it our IPS™ and IPS™2 (Integrated Power Strake) technology.

FLAT CENTER PAD A typical hull churns water, providing less water flow for the propeller. A Lund hull is fitted with a flat center pad, supplying clean water to the propeller and allowing the boat to ride higher. This reduces drag and gets the boat to plane more quickly, allowing for maximum top speed and a smoother, drier ride.

4

REVERSE CHINES Extending from the mid-ship to the transom, the reverse chines on Lund’s IPS™ and IPS™2 hulls grasp the water as the propeller spins into full rotation. This significantly reduces bow rise, allowing the boat to plane faster. At full speed, the reverse chines stabilize the hull and flatten turns, which channels spray for a drier ride. STRAKES Two strakes extrude from the bottom of the IPS™2 hull to funnel water down and away from the boat. In rough chop this lifts the bow higher out of the water, keeping you dry inside the cockpit while providing stability against oncoming waves. The strakes also assist in added boat control. As they glide through the water, they provide an additional edge for superior steering and control of the boat, so you stay on the fish or the underwater structure you’re following.

4

1

LONGITUDINAL SYSTEM We measure and fashion the bottom straightness of the hull to within thousandths of an inch, meaning every IPS™ and IPS™2 hull stays straight and true. The longitudinal beams in a Lund hull are also constructed closer together than many of the competitors hulls. They act like studs in a house, providing more support and strengthening the hull because there’s less space between them.

Fbily

From bow to stern, a Lund is designed and constructed to catch fish. Boat ControL Pronounced center keel, strakes and reverse chines on the IPS™ and IPS™2 hulls act like a track for the boat to run on. At slow speeds, when you need to maneuver over the fish with stability and precision, the boat will stay on a true and predictable course, placing you directly over the strike zone. The sharp bottom edges of the transom cut through the water, allowing the boat to react to the smallest adjustments. Layout There is no wasted space on a Lund deck, with large storage compartments for tackle and gear and center-rod storage on certain models. This allows you to hide clutter and free up maneuverable space on the deck for quick and free access from bow to stern. LiveweLL system Lund’s livewell systems mimic a fish’s natural habitat by constantly circulating clean oxygenated water into the tank, keeping your fish as fresh as when it struck your line.

staBiLity An innovative structural design counteracts weight imbalance from the propeller and engine. The reverse chines act as stabilizers, allowing the entire crew to lean over the gunnel and land a fish without excessive tilt.

Safety

Confidence above the water is essential to success below the water.

FLOTATION TESTING Inside Lund’s manufacturing plant, our engineers use an on-site testing tank to ensure every newly designed model meets or exceeds Coast Guard flotation standards. These tests ensure that when a Lund is at its maximum weight capacity and full of water, it will still maintain level flotation.

Cstruc From raw material to floating in a body of water, Lund boats are a product of consistent evolution and innovation. DoubLe riveteD seams Lining the exterior seams of the hull, two rows of rivets create a secure watertight structure capable of withstanding a boat’s largest strains—time and heavy use. While many boats get by with one seam or weld, we believe the extra time and material is absolutely necessary to build the most durable and best performing boat possible. Warranty Our company makes the industry’s most durable boats, and we also offer boating’s best warranty, which includes: • Unprecedented three-year bow-to-stern warranty, including labor and parts. • Lifetime warranty on double riveted seams. • Lifetime warranty on marine-grade treated plywood. DoubLe PLateD boW Using stress-point analysis, Lund engineers have pinpointed exactly where a Lund hull undergoes the most pressure. We use that information to integrate an innovative double plated bow system that strengthens the hull, while still reducing the boat’s overall weight. resaLe Every time a dealer sees a Lund trailered into their lot, they get excited because they know it won’t stay parked for very long. Buying a Lund isn’t just an investment in on-water experiences; it’s an investment in a built-to-last boat that will hold value for years.

A Lu  built… By Fishermen When Rory Wiebe launches his Lund Pro-V, he doesn’t just search the water system for hidden fishing structure, he meticulously scans the layout of his boat. Experienced anglers know where they want their gear, and they know how they want their boat to operate. But if it doesn’t meet their standards, most can’t do much about it. Rory can. As a product engineer for Lund, Rory’s work spills into his weekend fishing trips. He remembers his natural interactions with his boat as a fisherman and uses those to improve the design as an engineer—like when he decided to incorporate more space in the console of the Lund because locator screens have grown in the past few years. Rory, who competes in five tournaments a year, is part of an engineering team not only dedicated to making the best fishing boats on the water, but becoming the best fishermen on the water. “Fishing is part of me, and to be able to work on something that facilitates that passion is truly my dream come true,” Rory says. A Lund is a product of passion. Behind every detail isn’t just an engineer, but an enthusiastic angler—one whose mission is to make your on-water experience unforgettable.

For Fishermen The flash of a Lund logo as competitors race to Rory Wiebe

the weigh-in dock is one of the most common sights on the tournament fishing circuit. Lund is the professional angler’s choice for one reason—from bow to stern it’s designed to catch winning fish. Our Lund Pro-Staff, representing some of the best anglers on the circuit, not only win in their Lunds, but also give us feedback for an even bigger competitive advantage.

“My Lund is an absolutely awesome boat! It is extremely dry with an ultra, smooth ride over some of the roughest waters in North America. What is incredible about this boat is its finesse in maneuvering in and around fishing spots due to its IPS™2 hull design. The hull provides extreme responsiveness and pinpoint accuracy when it comes to fishing for walleyes on structure. Another great feature is its ability to drift perpendicular to the wind, which many other boats are unable to do. It has been a critical part of my fishing success over the years.” -Ted Takasaki Lund Pro-Staff member, Fishing Hall of Fame inductee and tournament angler.

“I make my living fishing big water. For well over 150 days per year, I need a boat that is going to handle anything Mother Nature can dish out. As a full time angler, I need to be able to adapt to a changing bite. I can do that with my Lund, no matter what kind of weather. No other boat company can match the quality and fishablity of Lund.” -Tony Roach Lund Pro-Staff member, professional fishing guide on Mille Lacs Lake, Minnesota, and creator of the innovative “ice trolling” technique.

“I rely on a Lund because it is simply the best multi-species, multi-technique boat on the planet. I have a love for bass fishing and competing in bass tournaments. My Lund is built to fish bass with raised decks, huge storage room and a massive livewell. But after I’m done bass fishing, I can turn around and flog for muskies, host a guide trip for walleyes or troll for big pike. I can do it all out of this boat and since I live on worldclass Lake of the Woods, it's nice to have a boat with so many great options.” -Jeff “Gussy” Gustafson Lund Pro-Staff member, host of Canadian television program “Fishing with Gussy” and competitor in the National FLW Bass tour.

FISHING AT ITS FINEST. Before our boats leave the factory, before they ever touch water, we mark them with Lund’s name across the side. For us, the mark isn’t a matter of decoration. It’s a symbol that recognizes a heritage of superior construction and unbeatable performance. Because from a distance, you might not be able to distinguish the IPS™ hull or the power strake design, but you can see four letters across the side—four letters that represent 66 years of quality craftsmanship for fishermen, by fishermen. The next time you’re in a secluded cove with a line in the water, look at that mark on the side of your boat and know you’re not just in a fishing boat. You’re in a Lund.

Two Hulls, One Tradition Lund’s hulls are made from fiberglass and aluminum—two very different materials. But our hulls aren’t defined by raw material. They’re defined by tradition, quality craftsmanship and meticulous standards. Because how the boat is made is just as important as what it’s made from. Both our aluminum and fiberglass hulls are derived from the same innovative design—Lund’s IPSTM and IPSTM2 (Integrated Power Strake) technology. We’ve developed a construction process that incorporates the same industry-leading design into every hull that comes off the line. Our aluminum and fiberglass hulls expand your possibilities and offer a customizable experience, we take pride knowing that whatever material you choose—whether it’s the smooth and sleek fiberglass or rugged aluminum— you’re still riding in a Lund.

FIBERGLASS

ALUMINUM

The smooth finish and sleek coloration on Lund’s fiberglass boats come from precision molds developed at Lund. But beyond the distinctive fiberglass look, the molds also serve to ensure consistency in performance and durability in every fiberglass hull that comes off the line. True straightness within the composite fiberglass structure is guaranteed because the molds themselves have been optimized from the outset.

Lund’s aluminum hulls aren’t just built to perform at the highest level. They are built to maintain that unmatched handling through years of hard use. That starts by using the most durable raw aluminum in the industry. From there, our employees use cutting-edge shaping techniques to hand-piece together the IPSTM and IPSTM2 hulls on every Lund. The seams are double-riveted for a more rugged structure ensuring long-lasting performance.

Smooth Operator Sometimes you’re only as good as the boat you fish in. If you can’t maintain your position while fishing, your chances for hooking that monster fish decrease significantly. Thankfully, Lund boats have been meticulously engineered and constructed to deliver unmatched control that allows you to outperform the competition every time. At the core of it all is Lund’s exclusive IPS™ (Integrated Power Strake) and IPS™ 2 hull designs. The IPS systems utilize a pronounced center keel that helps maintain ultimate boat control. At the back of the hull, water hits a flat pad, which greatly reduces churn. The non-turbulent water creates less motor strain and, ultimately, delivers better performance. Wide reverse chines allow for precise cornering maneuvers and overall better control. They allow the boat to get on plane quicker and improve holeshot, as well. Finally, a wider footprint enhances onboard stability. IPS integrates all of these features into a cohesive system that provides anglers with better backtrolling, superior drift control and more sophisticated boat positioning. Simply put, Lund boats deliver a more precise, faster, higher, smoother and drier ride.

1 Lund Boats track like a train on rails, when trolling forward or backward, to maintain your desired position at any time. 2 Additional strakes on the IPSTM2 hull provide more control to enhance tracking ability and give you the competitive advantage. 3 Reverse chines add an additional dimension to boat control. They not only provide added stability, but also additional edges to cut water and stay on top of the fish. 4 Lund’s pronounced center keel works to eliminate cross drift, making it easy to stay in complete control and reduce battery and human fatigue. 5 Lund Boats are engineered to be center balanced. This keeps the hull working at maximum efficiency for ultimate tracking control in all conditions.

Floats Your Boat Lund engineers strive to design hulls that can endure the most extreme conditions. One of those extremes? A hull riddled with dozens of gaping holes—66 to be exact. The engineers gouged into the aluminum around the entire frame of their “holey” boat and launched it onto the water. The boat not only stayed afloat, it maintained stability and performance at high speeds when on a plane, allowing the engineers to safely return to land with little more than damp shoes. The secret to Lund’s superior flotation, even when taking on water, is strategically injected foam that meets and exceeds Coast Guard regulations. The buoyant material lining the inside of the hull ensures superior stability and flotation under extreme stress. For more information on Lund’s flotation compliance process and to see videos of the “holey” boat, visit www.lundboats.com.

Captain’s Creature Comforts

Lund’s pioneering work with livewells keeps your catch healthier and less prone to stress

PROLONG PLUS The envy of the industry and the most technologically advanced system to ever hit the water, the ProLong Plus is designed with a freshwater pickup integrated into the bottom of the hull, where it forces a steady flow of water into the livewell while the boat is running.

2075/1900/1800 TYEE: COMMAND CONSOLE PROLONG This two-pump design keeps water fresher and fish calmer than any other in the industry. One pump fills and aerates the well from above the fish, while the other recirculates and injects fresh air via the MaxAir system for maximum oxygenation.

The redesigned 2075/1900/1800 Tyee will amaze anglers with its fantastic set of features—for both fishing and comfort. The command console offers distinct style and an ergonomic layout where everything is closer at hand.

AERATED Lund’s high-quality aerated livewell features a single pump with a single-switch control. You also have the option of running the aerator pump continuously in manual mode, or intermittently in automatic mode when the model is equipped with a timer.

Lund Gear

Powerful Partners lund prides itself in delivering the most rugged and dependable boats in the fishing industry, so it’s no surprise that lund teams up with mercury marine to provide the solid and efficient power to get you there and back. mercury is an industry leader in four-stroke and directinjected two-stroke technology, and all of its engines run smoothly and responsively in any water conditions. Check out mercury’s latest and greatest offerings here, and for more information, visit www.mercurymarine.com.

OPTIMAX PRO XS Mercury’s OptiMax Pro XS outboards deliver unprecedented speed and acceleration to help you get to where the fish are biting— fast! Several qualities make the Pro XS the best-selling tournament outboard in the world. For starters, its two-stage direct-injection system and high-tech carbon fiber reeds make for incredibly quick response and outstanding performance. The Pro XS also boasts higher open-throttle rpm for remarkable acceleration.

SPITFIRE PROPELLER Mercury’s FourStroke outboards have a new partner in crime: the Spitfire propeller. Four bold and uncompromising blades with high rake angles and extra cup give Mercury’s FourStrokes greater acceleration without compromising top speed.

NOTES

Every Lund boat is built to meet or exceed rigorous NMMA certification standards and Coast Guard regulations. But first, every Lund must pass the toughest test of all—our own standards for quality and craftsmanship.

Some photos of Lund boats in this catalog show factory and/or dealer installed options. Photographs are taken under controlled conditions. Colors are subject to printing limitations and are approximations only.

RESALE VALUE When you buy a Lund boat, you become part of the Lund family and part of our tradition of excellence. When it comes time to sell your Lund boat, your investment in Lund quality will be rewarded.

Because Lund is dedicated to constant product improvements, the specifications, options, color selections and model availabilities of our boats are subject to change without notification.

Because we build the best boats on the water, we can afford to be selective with who sells them. When you see the Lund sign hanging in the window, you know the dealer inside meets Lund’s strict standards for customer satisfaction. Stop by any of our dealers, and you’ll see why they’ve earned the right to carry the Lund line.

“that’s the difference between a lund glass and a competitor glass; if i want to fish for bass, panfish, salmon, muskie, backtroll, drift, i can do all that because of the sharp edges, deep keel and what’s incorporated into that hull.” -Marty Glorvigen, Lund Pro Staff member www.lundboats.com
