Welcome back! Dio Senior

WELCOME BACK!

On Tuesday 3 September, around 125 Old Girls gathered for the annual Senior Old Girls’ Morning Tea, hosted by the Old Girls’ League Committee.

This was a record number of attendees for recent years and it made for a convivial atmosphere in the School Hall. But first, many of the Old Girls attended a Eucharist Service given by Rev’d Sandy Robertson, with the St Cecilia Singers choir leading the hymns.

The Hall looked wonderful, with spring flowers on each table and the Rose Bowl filled with bright roses. The event was catered by Let’s Eat, with brownie from the Dio Caf. A huge thank you to Annabel French from the OGL Committee and Jenny Speed for organising the catering. This year, morning tea became a light lunch, with soup also served.

A highlight was the presentation of two cakes for the School’s birthday, one red velvet, the other lemon and elderflower like the cake at Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding. They were made and decorated by Year 11 Food Technology student Holly Hunn as part of her Level 1 NCEA assessment, taking inspiration from Claude Monet’s 1919 painting Water Lilies. After everyone sang Happy Birthday, Bobbie Hepworth, the most senior Old Girl present, blew out the candles.

The OGL Committee was also delighted to welcome another current student, Sadie Sumich in Year 13, who spoke to everyone about a day in the life of a present-day Dio girl.

The Committee is grateful to the Old Girls who took the time to share their positive feedback on this year’s event. Many thanks to Angela Coe and Aly Lubecker from the Development Office for helping everyone to park on the field.
