Abstract The use of autogenous block bone grafts in bone regeneration procedures for alveolar ridge augmentation can be limited by donor site morbidity and complications. The purpose of the present lecture is to evaluate the efficacy of allogeneic corticocancellous block grafts used for ridge augmentation prior to implant placement.
Lecture 3 Soft tissue management before and after implant postioning Active member of the Italian Academy of Endodontics Co-founder of the Academy of not-transfusional emocomponents Speaker at many international meetings: e.g. American Academy of Periodontology and Japanese Society of Periodontology
Dr. Stefano Sartori Italy
Abstract The soft tissue management has a central position for the treatment plan in all dental fields but expecially in oral implantology. It starts with the first surgery both for simple and complex cases to obtain a good intraoperatory vision, to have a perfect closure of the surgical site and to avoid the secondary exposure of the regenerated bone. In the next surgeries many factors can be taken into account to improve the functional and esthetic result: the quantity and quality of cheratinized tissues, the position of the gingival margin and the height of the papillae.

Abstract The placement of implants in areas with low available bone still constitutes a challenge in the current implantology. Although autograft is still considered the gold standard, postoperative morbidity related to the surgical donor site is still a limiting factor for its indication. In the search for the ideal bone substitute, various materials have been used, with varying degrees of success, however, they all have limitations regarding indications and uses. In this presentation, we will provide an overview of the various materials and strategies that can be used in bone regeneration in implant dentistry, emphasizing recent advances such as the use of rhBMP-2 and L-PRF.

DIO Europe Meeting 2014 Porto Speakers Lecture 7 Esthetic Crown Lengthening Procedures: Classification and Clinical Application
Dr. Andre Saadoum France
Degree in Dental Surgery from the Faculty of Paris and completed his Post-Graduate Certificate in Periodontology at the University of Pennsylvania and Post-Graduate Certificate in Implantology at University of California in Los Angeles Associate Professor in the Department of Periodontics at the University of Southern California. He is also Visiting Professor at the Hadassah, Faculty of Dental Medicine of Jerusalem University Received the French Medal of “Chevalier de l’Ordre National du Merite” A contributing author in the books entitled: The Art of the Smile, The Art of Treatment Planning and recently Ridge Preservation Updates and Innovations He was also Associate Editor of Implant Site Development published in May 2012. His book on Soft Tissue Management on Teeth and Implants has been published in December 2012 and translated in Russian in August 2013.
Abstract Crown lengthening procedures are indicated to provide adequate tooth structure in case of subgingival tooth fracture or caries, uneven gingival level, unesthetic short crowns due to the tooth wear, inadequate axial height, altered passive eruption ,forced eruption of a single or multiple teeth and finally in case of gingival smile. The treatement modality for esthetic crown lengthening procedure should be based on detail diagnosis in each case because of the multifactorial etiology and because of the type of therapy selected by the clinician, will have a direct implication for the esthetic result. Like the gingival margin and the bone level, the periodontal biotype can vary after crown lengthening surgery, depending on the initial patient osseous biotype. Depending on the clinical situation regarding the amount of keratinized gingival above the gingival margin, with or without disharmony in relation to the alveolar crest to the cemento-enamel junction, there are two main clinical protocols for the treatment of this gingival anomalies: - Gingival resection and harmonization, with or without osseous resection, in natural passive eruption. - Gingival resection and harmonization with osseous resection in delayed altered passive eruption.
Lecture 8 “The Body Wants To Heal, Lets Work With It”, Host Healing Up-Regulation with DIO UF Implants
Dr. Peter Fairbairn UK
Peter is Visiting Professor in the Department of Periodontology and Implant Dentistry, University of Detroit Mercy, Mi, USA, and is Principal Dental Surgeon at the Scarsdale Dental Aesthetic and Implant Clinic, Kensington, London. He is the London Board representative to the Association of Dental Implantology ADI ( UK) and the Honorary Secretary of the London Dental Fellowship. Peter has also spoken globally for 10 years on Oral surgical protocols and Grafting techniques as well as written Chapters in 2 books as well as articles and research papers in Numerous peer reviewed journal. He is Clinical Director of Regenamed (UK) , with 12 years clinical experience using Synthetic ( Alloplast ) particulate graft materials.
Abstract Bone preservation using early Implant placement and associated particulate grafting may be the best way to work with the body in the restoration of the bony architecture. Newer Implant surfaces as well as next generation synthetic materials have enabled an up-regulation of the host bone healing response and with this earlier placement , earlier loading protocol has enabled, reduced healing time with improved bone quality. Newer research including our own animal studies and patient core samples have shown these effects on host response as well as the over 2,400 clinical grafts by the speaker using the same protocol. The DIO UF Implants design and surface enhancements appear to assist in this protocol for the benefit of our patients.

Abstract The objective of this in vivo study was to evaluate the biocompatibility and osseointegration of four different implants, with differently treated surfaces. In total, 60 implants of the 4 different types (two types of DIO Implants, Sweden&Martina and Straumann) were inserted into tibias of 6 minipigs (2 tibias per minipig). In each tibia were introduced 5 implants (one for each type plus a fifth random one). In total, 15 implants of each type were inserted. Standardized surgical intra/extraoperative procedures were applied for each implant and animal. Animals were sacrificed three months after. Histological and histomorphometric analysis were performed on bone tissue specimens containing the implants, in order to estimate osseointegration of 4 different types of implant.

Abstract Implant dentistry is a symbiosis between Art and Science. The art and the highest target in Implant dentistry is a high aesthetical outcome in terms of micro and macro esthetics. At the same time we aim a most minimmally invasive and shortest treatment way. Implant designs, Graft materials and Membranes new hard and soft tissue grafting techniques offer us the possibility to fulfill this target in most situations. After a visualisation of the end result, a systematic thinking approach will be the guideline for a decision in planning and treatment.

Porto Hot places CASA DA MUSICA Porto's Architectural Marvel This twelve-storey, irregular-shaped building was designed by world-renowned architect Rem Koolhaas exclusively for musical performances. It opened in 2005 and for admirers of architectural marvels it justifies a visit to Oporto on its own. The striking white concrete structure is an inventive building. Inside the 1,300-seat auditorium of perfect acoustics is a baroque organ pinned to the wall, and the VIP room has hand-painted blue tiles, blending contemporary minimalism with traditional touches. You can see it all in a highly recommended guided tour. Top international orchestras have already played here, and there is also a resident company. On the top floor is one of the most sophisticated restaurants in the city. From outside some have described the building as looking like a meteorite landed in the middle of the city. It's located on the city's main avenue (Avenida da Boavista that stretches for 7km toward the sea), on a roundabout that is overlooked by a column bearing a lion and a flattened French eagle -- a monument that celebrates the victory of the Portuguese and British in the Peninsular War.
SAO FRANCISCO CHURCH Porto's Extraordinarily Lavish Church What from outside looks like an ordinary 14th century Gothic and Baroque construction, has the most extraordinary church interior in Oporto and unquestionably one of the most fabulously opulent in all of Europe. The extensive 17th and 18th baroque decoration is a profusion of gilt wood carvings in the vault pillars and columns: cherubs, plants, and animals dripping with gold -- note the "Tree of Jesse," dating from 1718. The little that is not covered in pure gold (it is said that there is 400kg of it here) such as the wide-ribbed Gothic arches, is made of marble. There is a museum housed in the catacombs below consisting of artifacts from the former monastery. Beneath the flags of the cellar are thousands of human bones, stored to await Judgment Day. Church services are no longer held here, but it is often the venue for classical music concerts. If you only have time to visit one church in Oporto, make it this one.
DIO Europe Meeting 2014 Porto Porto Hot places CAIS DE GAIA Porto's Stunning Skyline and the Taste of Port The views from Cais de Gaia are perhaps the longest-lasting images of Oporto for visitors. It's impossible not to stand in awe at the city's stunning skyline, whose impact is further enhanced by the picturesque boats that stand in front, and the soaring double-decker Dom Luis Bridge. Breathe in the atmosphere from the several cafes and restaurants at the riverfront (Bogani Cafe is especially recommended for a drink and chill-out sounds), and then visit the terracotta-topped Port Wine warehouses that stand behind them. Most of the world's supply of Port is stored and aged here, and a visit to any of the warehouses should not be missed. If you venture into the alleys uphill, you will find 19th century manor houses and even more port lodges (that of Taylor's is especially worth a visit). It is best to come here in late afternoon and stay for dinner overlooking Oporto. ITI (International Team for Implantology) Fellow.
SERRALVES MUSEUM Porto's Cultural Eden This world-class museum displays cutting-edge international contemporary art in a striking minimalist building by Pritzker Prize-winning architect Alvaro Siza Vieira. Like the Guggenheim, there is no collection permanently on display, with temporary exhibitions taking up the entire space, as well as that of the separate "Casa de Serralves," a pink Art Deco construction located in the surrounding formal gardens (which are magnificent and worth a visit in their own right). The eighteen hectares of grounds also contain natural farmland, and are dotted with modern sculptures (including a much-photographed gigantic shovel by Claes Oldenburg and Coosje van Bruggen). Major exhibitions in the past have included "Andy Warhol : A Factory," "Francis Bacon : Caged Uncaged," and "Paula Rego." This is a sight that should not be missed when visiting Porto, and be sure to also pass by the museum shop for some of the best of Portuguese design. If you're in the city in late May or early June, be sure to check out the museum's annual "Serralves em Festa" festival, with 40 hours of free events related to contemporary art and culture.
