EVEN TS & N E WS It’s here – the 2015 Fall Leaves Backpack Ministry Campaign! The$kickoff$for$the$Fall$Leaves$Backpack$Ministry$is$here!$Every$year$we$strive$to$provide$250$or$more$ backpacks$to$schools$within$our$community$that$have$students$who$cannot$financially$afford$the$supplies$ they$need.$This$year,$in$partnership$with$Walgreens,$we$are$again$going$to$be$able$to$purchase$a$backpack$ with$all$of$the$needed$supplies$for$the$amazing$low$price$of$just$$10!$But$we$need$your$help.$$ Our$goal$is$to$raise$$1,750$to$cover$the$cost$of$225$backpacks$with$supplies.$Yep,$the$math$doesn’t$add$ up,$because$we$also$have$been$able$to$secure$up$to$$500$from$Thrivent$Financial$through$a$matching$ funds$grant!$In$addition,$to$reach$our$goal$of$250$backpacks,$we$are$looking$for$at$least$25$or$more$ donated$complete$backpacks$filled$with$supplies$from$those$of$you$who$might$like$to$shop$instead$of$ giving$a$monetary$donation.$A$sample$shopping$list$of$what$it$takes$to$donate$a$complete$backpack$filled$ with$supplies$is$shown$on$the$left.$$ Starting$in$July,$you$will$see$advertisements$in$the$weekly$service$bulletins$reminding$you$of$this$ wonderful$campaign$that$has$touched$the$hearts$of$so$many$children,$parents,$and$those$who$get$ involved$in$making$it$a$success$(you!).$$ Backpacks$will$be$assembled$in$early$September$and$brought$to$two$(or$possibly$three$depending$on$the$ number$of$backpacks)$schools$within$our$community$that$are$in$need.$Those$schools$will$be$announced$ as$we$near$the$end$of$our$campaign,$but$be$assured$we’re$working$on$finding$ones$with$the$most$need.$$ We$hope$you’ll$join$us$in$making$this$year’s$Backpack$Ministry$a$success$as$you$have$in$previous$years.$ Let’s$show$how$we$can$put$our$faith$in$action$to$“Love$God,$Love$People,$Make$a$Difference!”$$ You$can$start$contributing$now$using$an$offering$envelope$with$the$word$“Backpacks”$on$it,$or$through$ our$online$giving$site$and$specifying$an$amount$in$the$“Backpack$Ministry”$category.$A$goal$thermometer$ will$be$posted$in$the$narthex$to$keep$everyone$updated$on$how$where$we$stand$with$our$fund$raising.$$ If$you$have$any$questions$about$this$campaign,$or$want$to$volunteer$to$help$assemble$the$backpacks,$ please$contact$Carl$or$Gail$Bates$at$(702)$496^3162$or$gbates5400@gmail.com.$$ A"special"thanks"to"Mandi"Koontz,"Store"Manager"at"Walgreens"on"6485"S."Fort"Apache"Road!"
A Fond Farewell Dear Friends, After prayerful consideration we have decided to accept a call to serve at another Lutheran Church in Michigan. We are excited for this opportunity, and the possibilities it will bring in the future. It has been a very difficult decision to make, as we are so tied in with Good Samaritan and we love the people in here. This is not a move that we had been anticipating or planning, however we really feel that God has opened some doors for us. Thank you to the French Children’s Choir for joining us for worship and concert on July 12 & 13. A huge thanks goes out to Lisa McCoy for coordinating housing and to Kathy Bronson for coordinating meals, and to all who helped house, feed, and accommodate the children during their stay in Las Vegas! It was a blessing to have them here and to hear them sing! As the choir departed Las Vegas, Mr. Bardot told Pastor Scott that the people at this church “really are Good Samaritans!” It was a wonderful statement about how so many of you reached out to this children’t choir and their adult leaders. Thanks for “making a difference” in their lives during the three days they were with us!

Cantata Camp - Wednesdays 4pm Fall Leaves Backpack Ministry
The Fall Leaves Backpack Ministry campaign is here! Our goal is to donate 250 fully stocked backpacks to needy elementary schools in our community. Supply lists and more information is available in the Entry Way. Donations can be made online now or collected weekly during the offering (write "Backpacks" on envelope). Thanks to Walgreens, each $10 donation provides 1 fully stocked backpack!

The first annual Clayton Bronson Scholarship Award has been earned by Jessica Vallin and Hunter Junge. Jessica and Hunter each far exceeded the basic criteria, both being outstanding, accomplished, and dedicated individuals and scholars. BACK TO BASICS

Soon it’s that time of the year when the kids go back to school. Additionally, the fall sports season will begin soon as well. Teachers and coaches will be reminding their young charges about the importance of the basics. We will get “Back to Basics” for our next sermon series. Christians, too, need to be reminded of the basics in order to live out our faith on a daily basis. So we will talk about the nature of God, prayer, the Ten Commandments and more.
