National Dog Day
Show some puppy love with community dog walk in Yate to mark National Dog Day
In the run up to National Dog Day, housebuilder Barratt Homes is inviting people and their pooches to join a free community dog walk on Thursday, August 26. Bristol Animal Rescue Centre (ARC) and Bath Cats and Dogs Home both provide essential support for vulnerable animals across the local area.

The event will involve a guided walk along nature trails surrounding the homes in Ladden Garden Village, a new community of 1, 2, 3 & 4-bedroom homes being created by Barratt Homes in Yate.
The first 25 dogs to arrive for the community walk at 12.30pm will be rewarded with treats and bandanas, which is sure to get tails wagging.
People can also enter a Draw Your Dog competition for the chance to win a £25 Amazon voucher. Entrants just need to draw or paint a picture of their pooch and drop the artwork into the Ladden Garden Village Sales Centre by Monday 16th August to be in with the chance of winning.
The winning image will be displayed at Ladden Garden Village within the Show Complex for residents to see.
Each month, as part of their community fund, Barratt Homes gives £1,000 to charities and organisations in the local area as part of their commitment to building strong communities close to their developments. This month, two much-loved local animal rescue centres in Bristol and Bath have been given donations totalling £500 each by the housebuilder. Katie Love, from Bristol Animal Rescue Centre, said: “We are delighted with this donation from Barratt Homes. We rely entirely on local support within the community to fund our vital work which focuses on helping find forever homes for lots of wonderful animals, a process which can take a long time and resources from rescue to rehabilitation to rehoming. A little goes a long way here, and I’m sure all the animals would be saying thank you if they could!”
Andrea Pilgrim, sales director for Barratt Homes’ Bristol division, added: “With many of us in the sales team dog owners ourselves, we loved the idea of a chance to celebrate our four-legged friends. We also know that not all pets are as lucky as ours and that’s why the work of Bristol ARC and Bath Cats and Dogs Home is so vital. We’re very happy to support the fantastic work that these two charities are carrying out in the community. We hope that this fun outdoor event for all the family will give people a chance to reconnect and that the dogs enjoy themselves too!”
National Dog Day takes place on August 26th and is celebrated globally. Founded in 2004, it aims to not only celebrate dogs, but to raise awareness and encourage people to adopt one of the many dogs who are in rescue centres.
