Women are better drivers than men The age-old debate over whether men or women are the better drivers has raged across the dashboard since driving licenses were introduced in 1903. But the confusion has finally been cleared up with new research suggesting that women win in this battle of the sexes. The Confused.com research has been compiled into an interactive animation - The Gender Gap in 100 Drivers - and reveals women have been wrongly accused of being ‘bad drivers’ for many years. And this – perhaps controversially – has led to them having cheaper car insurance premiums. The latest car insurance price index from Confused.com reveals women are paying £84 less for their car insurance than men, with the average premium for women at £737. Men, meanwhile, are paying £821 in comparison. And this price gap has left some drivers scratching their heads, with one in seven (14%) finding themselves confused about why it is men are paying more than women for their car insurance.
Women less likely to offend And The Gender Gap in 100 Drivers illustrates why this might be. In fact, it proves men are almost four times more likely to commit a motoring offence than women. In total, more than 539,000 drivers in England and Wales were taken to court for breaking the law on the road in 2018, of which the majority (79%) were men – outnumbering women almost 4:1. In particular, almost one in four (24%) of these offences were men with a heavy foot slapped with a speeding ticket. While almost one in 15 (7%) were women who committed the same offence. Men also outweigh women 5:1 when it came to drink-driving offences, and 3:1 for driving without insurance. And it seems male drivers have cost insurers more money when it comes to claims payouts, suggesting they have been in more accidents than women. In 2018, two out of three (67%) insurance claims were made by men, of which 17% were fault claims.
But the microsite , created by Confused.com, proves why it is that women pay less for their car insurance and own the bragging rights when it comes to driving.
In comparison, nearly one in three (33%) claims last year came from women – 8% of which were at fault.
Visualising the UK driving population as 100 dots, the animation weighs up just how many men and women in England and Wales have committed a motoring offence, from speeding to drink-driving, to driving with no tax or insurance, with men proving to be the bigger lawbreakers. 4
Data held by Confused.com suggests that men claimed on average £5,577 per pay-out, while women’s were slightly cheaper at £5,150.
Not only do men make more claims, they also tend to be a little more expensive too.
This could be down to the fact that men often own more expensive cars. In fact, further research by Confused.com found that men own cars with an average value of £11,385. Women, however, are driving around in cars with a lower value of £8,228 – a whopping £3,157 difference. And this alone will reduce the price of car insurance. Bad habits Not only this, but men are more likely to have bad driving habits. For example, more than more than one in five (22%) male motorists admit to skipping a red light, compared to more than one in seven (15%) women.
Of all the learner drivers who took their test last year, 22% of those who passed were female, compared to 23% of men. And it seems female drivers struggled to get their licence first time around, with just 9% passing first time (compared to 11% men). Men will be relieved to know the gap has slowly been closing between what they pay for car insurance compared to women. Just over two years ago (July 2017) the gap reached a whopping £120 – the biggest difference since before the EU Gender Directive was announced in December 2012 (largest gap - £121 in December 2011).
And men are more likely to tailgate another driver (15%), compared to women (11%).
However, as male drivers remain to be the worst offenders on the road, it’s unlikely we’ll see the gap close completely for years to come.
However, there are some bad habits which are more common among women, including eating while driving (51% vs. 50%), and driving in bare feet (14% vs. 13%), although only marginally.
The motoring editor at Confused.com, said in an online statement: “Who are better drivers, men or women? This is a confusing debate that has been almost impossible to settle – until now.
While the research clearly shows women are ‘better’ drivers, this could be down to the fact that they had more practice, as it took them longer to receive their licence
“When it comes to car insurance prices, men pay more. And for some drivers this is causing a lot of confusion. But if you go by the data, women are the safer drivers, which ultimately means cheaper car insurance costs.”
The Gender Gap in 100 Drivers animation reveals more women took their driving test than men in 2018, although, fewer passed.

Everything is Music tells the story of Bristol & Bath’s Music Scene
Music lovers are invited to explore the stories of Bristol and Bath’s iconic music scenes through the location-based digital museum project Everything is Music Everything is Music is a celebration of the people and places that form these west country cities’ musical heritage. The project invites artists, prominent characters, labels, clubs, venues, record stores and festivals that form the fabric of Bristol and Bath’s musical landscape – past and present – to explain why particular locations are important to them. These stories are then told through photographs, video, audio, podcasts, music and experiences, at location-based pins in the two cities. Music through the ages is celebrated in full across 250+ locations. The platform offers everything from stories about iconic St Pauls’ sound systems, to The Wurzels’ connection to an iconic Nailsea pub. Music lovers will hear Portishead talking from a Bristol studio about recording their debut album, the story of Bath’s lost iconic rock venue The Pavilion, and an exploration through Bristol’s thriving electronic scene dominated by up-and-coming women. Though this is just a taster of the huge number of stories on offer. 6
The project aims to visualise the sights and sounds of these two cities, through a collaboration between international music publication Crack Magazine and cutting-edge technology from geo-location specialist Landmrk. The project harnesses the latest mobile technology to create experiences for music lovers including 4D audio reactive visualisers, 3D photogrammetry scans, arc hive posters in augmented reality and exclusively recorded mixes. How it works Participants can unlock content on their phones at these specific locations to uncover a treasure trove of artefacts and discoveries from 70 years of musical history. The platform is completely free, requires no download and can be accessed by heading to everythingismusic.io on a smartphone’s web browser. Once on the platform, you are guided to the interactive map showcasing all available pins across the two cities as well as your current location. Through walking around Bristol and Bath, content can be unlocked by being close to a pin on the map. Unlocking these pins allows you to read, listen and view stories, music and visual experiences. From punk icons IDLES and Rita Lynch to Sarah Records and Tears For Fears, via venues like The Granary, Lakota, Moles and Thekla, participants will be drawn into the cultural geography of Bristol and Bath.
The platform allows everyone the opportunity to learn about the importance of these specially chosen locations, discover new music and explore unseen parts of both cities. It will also provide numerous opportunities to support the ecosystem that makes up Bristol and Bath’s musical heritage. With local independent shops and businesses enduring such hardship over the past year, the platform hopes to drive much-needed custom to record shops, music venues, shops and public spaces. Equally, participants are encouraged to buy music by the artists they discover through the platform through supporting links. Project lead Ben Price explains; “Bristol and Bath has an incredible music heritage that has been thoroughly documented and exhibited over the years by some amazing researchers, galleries and writers. This project aims to celebrate, support and tell the stories of the amazing music in these cities in a new and engaging way – specifically by immersing people within the geography of both places. With Covid-19 restrictions being lifted, it seems like the perfect time to encourage people to explore their cities. What better reason to get out and about than to discover some amazing music and above all, the chance to educate yourself about some amazing stories? “The project has been a truly remarkable 18-month effort from our teams, and we are happy to announce it will be available for free for all participants for three months. We hope to extend its life indefinitely with contributions from participants and local funding bodies. Long-term, we want to bring Everything is Music to other cities in the UK, uncovering the people, places, sounds and social histories that connect us through music.” This project was funded by Bristol+Bath Creative R+D as part of the Creative Industries Cluster Programme from the Arts & Humanities Research Council as part of their Industrial Strategy. Featured Content Participants can explore a series of specially created tours and pins:
● Bristol drum & bass original DJ Krust will guide participants around several of his mostloved Stokes Croft, St Pauls and Montpelier hotspots as a 2D hologram ● Bristol’s most famous gig obsessive, Big Jeffrey Johns, will talk them through his top four Bristol gigs of all time as a 2D hologram ● A tour through Bristol's once-storied LGBT venues ● An exploration of women in electronic music ● A tour of four prominent St Paul’s sound systems as they’ve never been experienced before ● DJ Pinch guiding you through a series of Bristol dubstep hotspots as an audio tour Other locations include: ● A spoken-word response to a year since the fall of the Edward Colston statue, by Bristol-based poets Solomon O.B and Wish Master – both presented as a 2D hologram ● Those who ran Ashton Court Festival reflect on the event’s life and story ● Bristol innovators Portishead discuss their seminal debut, Dummy, in the studio where they recorded it. Vision As the full edition of the tour is available for free, contributions from participants will ensure this cultural resource can remain permanently in the city and be experienced by future generations looking to discover Bristol and Bath’s musical lineage. Making sure everyone can continue to enjoy this resource is vital to the long-term success of the project. While the team behind Everything is Music is happy to say they have made a dent in the historical music map of Bristol and Bath, they welcome suggestions for pins that aren’t on the map. They can head to the 'Submit a Story' button on the platform to suggest ideas to help expand the Everything is Music resource and the scope of the map’s size and content. Everything is Music advises all participants to operate within the government’s Covid-19 guidelines and be respectful of people, place and property while doing the tour. 7

8 Effective Ways to Keep a Woman Happy It is one thing to have the woman of your dreams, but it’s another thing to keep them happy in your relationship. You don’t have to spend a lot of money to buy her the most expensive things, what’s more, important is the sincerity you have when giving her something. It will not be easy keeping your significant other happy, but the rewards are worth it in the end.
4. Compliment her
1. Listen to her
Being respectful to your partner is one of the key factors to make her happy and also your relationship. Respecting her opinion on things or situations can lead to less argument in your relationship.
Most of the time, we tend to forget that listening to her is one of the most important things you could ever do to her. Passive listening is not enough, make sure to listen attentively when she’s sharing something. That way, it’ll make her feel that you really care about what she’s talking about.
Women really take an effort to try to look nice, so complimenting them when they least expect it could make their heart flutter. Do not be ashamed of giving compliments to your partner. People talk publicly about the things that they really value. She will love you more for that.
5. Respect her
6. Be nice to her family and friends
Getting along nicely with her family and friends shows how serious you are with your Arguments are inevitable in a relationship, but relationship with her. Independent fostering agency hosts annual National Photography Competition in time for World Photography Day
Foster Care Associates (FCA), one of the largest fostering agency groups in the UK, has launched its national photography competition in time for World Photography Day 2021. Running for its fourth year, the annual photography competition is running throughout the entire month of August for children and young people registered with FCA. With this year taking the theme of ‘Dream’, the competition aims to help inspire young photographers to showcase their creativity and imagination. This year, there are a number of Love 2 Shop voucher prizes up for grabs where the winners can cash in the prize at a number of retail shops. All children and young people under the age of 18 will be personally invited to enter and will receive their own physical invitation to enter the competition in the post. Divided into age categories, those with the most votes in each region of the UK will be awarded ‘Regional winner’. The entrant with the highest overall vote count will be awarded ‘National Winner’.
“We all know a picture can paint a thousand words and this competition is a fantastic way for children and young people to get creative. Please do encourage all children between the ages of 3 all the way up to 18 within your household to get snapping and good luck to all those who manage to enter the competition.” Applicants are invited to submit their ‘Dream’ inspired photographs by 1st September 2021 at 5 pm. Any entries outside of this date will unfortunately not be accepted. Foster parents will need to email a high-quality file of the image alongside an entry form, which parents can access on The Exchange. All entries will need to be of a certain quality to enable future printing quality. Currently 56,160 children are living with nearly 44,450 foster families in England. ANDREAS WEIMANN CONGRATULATES FIT ROBINS PARTICIPANTS City fans had a surprise visit from Andreas Weimann during their end of programme presentation. As the 12-week programme comes to an end, participants have now learnt how to live a healthy lifestyle, met new friends and formed groups that will continue to support one another in the future. On the final group weighing it was revealed that a massive 400 kilos in weight have been lost collectively across all four groups. To celebrate the impressive weight loss, the participants had a tour around Ashton Gate Stadium and were surprised when Bristol City striker Andreas Weimann stopped by during their presentation to congratulate them on their fantastic weight loss and lifestyle changes. FIT ROBINS Lead Coach Lee Gillett said: "It was amazing to complete our first 12-week program post the pandemic. The progress, support and friendship groups that have been created, will continue to grow as participants progress through their healthier lifestyle journey with us." 22
FIT ROBINS is a completely free health and wellbeing initiative which aims to promote healthy living and help City fans lose weight. The programme achieves this by helping participants: Improve their eating habits by reducing portion sizes and swapping fatty and sugary foods for fruit, vegetables and high fibre foods Achieve at least 45 minutes of moderate intensity physical activity on most days of the week. They receive weekly exercise sessions at their club for 12 weeks, and follow a personal pedometer-based walking programme that encourages them to fit physical activity into their daily lives Use tried-and-tested behaviour change techniques to become more active and improve their diet. These include regular self-monitoring of their weight and pedometer step counts and setting SMART goals to make changes that can be sustained long term. Sign-ups for the next programme start on September 2nd. To find out more about the project please click here or to sign up.

Out and about this week in Brislington with Jos and Andrew Wyevale update: Here is a summary on the state of the various planning applications submitted by the owners of the former garden centre on Bath Road. So far, four of the five current planning applications have been determined by the Local Planning Authority. Three have been refused and one has been approved: 21/00783/F - Creation of hardstanding for the purpose of ancillary storage (resubmission of planning application 20/00574/F) REFUSED 21/02117/F - Temporary change of use of site to Sui Generis (car sales) REFUSED 21/02287/F - Temporary change of use of site to mixed use B8/E/Sui Generis (builder's yard, car sales and scaffold storage yard) REFUSED 21/02131/F - Temporary change of use of western section of Garden Centre car park to Car Sales for an additional five-year period (extension to planning permission 19/01381/F) APPROVED A fifth application 21/03227/F - registered on 10.6.21 for temporary change of use of part of Class E storage area to a scaffold storage yard (Sui generis) is still at consultation stage. 24
Regarding enforcement measures fo previous infringements, the landowner and their agent have been advised that two of the cases are nearing completion and planning enforcement notices are about to be served. These cases refer to the formation of hardstanding without permission and earth moving and regrading of the land, including the formation of bunds and storage of construction plant and equipment and portable buildings without permission. There is a right of appeal against the planning decisions and the planning enforcement action and as always we will keep you updated. Callington Road Nature Reserve update: This week we had a meeting with representatives of the Friends of Callington Road Nature Reserve together with council conservation officers. We are hoping to do a biodiversity survey of the pond to see what species are currently present and how we can promote wildlife. We also discussed the upper slopes and new signage to remind dog owners to keep their dogs on the lead when in that part of the nature reserve in order to protect the deer. The Friends are also planning to have an open day on Saturday 4 September from 10 to 2pm. There will be nature trails, owl-oiling, painting of signage, a litter pick and removal of litter from the pond, among other activities. We’ll post more details when we have them.
Jubilee Pool update: Next March, the contract to run Jubilee Pool ends and the Friends group are working hard to ensure a Community Asset Transfer. However, there is likely to be a delay in completing the legal paperwork and we are worried the pool will be forced to close while the paperwork is completed. This week, your local Liberal Democrat Councillors wrote to the Mayor to seek his assurance that there will be a plan in place to ensure the pool can remain open. Here is the text of the letter: “We are writing with news of Jubilee pool and seeking an assurance. The pool since reopening has gone from strength to strength. Membership has increased significantly and now is currently over 500. This may of course vary but even at half this level the operation is viable financially. Prior to 19 July sessions were constrained and the biggest complaint was the difficulty of getting a vacancy in the completely full sessions. The number and size of the sessions has increased significantly and the friends group are doing a great job of assisting and advising the operators.
The friends are also busy preparing for an asset transfer but we all know that the council legal department will have no chance of completing the paperwork before next March. The local community has been ready since 2017 to take up the reins and we repeated this in our petition last year. The operators have been given confidence by the community backing but as of this moment there has been a refusal from officers to respond positively to make sure that there is no gap in arrangements between next March and any future date for handover. An extension of the arrangement with the operators will cost nothing but will give them the ability to plan staffing and investment and further increases to service provision. We look forward to your confirmation of continued opening of this extremely valuable and successful public facility.” Fencing repaired: We are delighted the damaged fencing on the riverside path from Water Lane to Tesco has been repaired. Having written to the City Council about the issue, we were concerned that budgetary constraints would mean the fencing would not be repaired for some time. However, Tesco got in touch with us to say that although it was not their responsibility, they were going to repair the fencing as many of their customers used that route to and from the shop. Well done Tesco!

Boa constrictor found in Lawrence Weston,
A member of the public contacted the police this week after finding the snake on the Long Cross, Lawrence Weston. The RSPCA, which is now caring for the reptile, said it was trying to establish how it came to be in the waste area. It said the animal was in a poor condition, had lots of scars and was very overweight. Boa constrictors, which kill their prey by crushing them, are usually found in South America and the Caribbean, but after often kept as pets in other countries. RSPCA rescue officer Clara Scully urged anyone with information to contact the charity about the snake found in Lawrence Weston. “The condition of this poor boa constrictor concerned the vet who carried out an examination,” she said. “A specialist facility is now kindly caring for it and a home will be found once the snake regains health condition. 26
“Anyone who recognises this snake or thinks they may know more about where it came from should contact our appeal line on 0300 123 8018.” The RSPCA said because boa constrictors were not native to the UK, they need to be kept in heated environments to regulate their body temperature, and often people buy them as pets without realising the challenges they can present. “Animals may become aggressive, grow very large, live for a long time or require a licence or paperwork to be legally kept or sold,” said the charity. “Without proper care exotic animals can suffer from serious diseases and, in severe cases or if left untreated, they can die.”

Why you should you wake up early every morning!
Early to bed and early to rise makes one healthy, wealthy and wise. This saying taught in primary school is one of the most important learnings, relevant throughout our life. According to research, enough sleep and waking up early helps the body and mind get enough relaxation and rest. It is also very important for maintaining overall health of the body. We bring a few benefits of waking up early. Peace and solace: According to the research, when you wake up early, before the rest of the world wakes up you have peaceful moments for yourself. There is no heavy honking from the traffic or neighbours speaking loudly. Early mornings are a great relaxation time. You can step out of the house to get some fresh air, prepare yourself. According to science the silent moments are actually highly beneficial for the brain and body; they help in increasing the oxygen levels in the brain, reduce blood pressure, lessen migraines, and boost mental health. Better brain function: According to the research, people who wake up early have better brain function, superior critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Such people also tend to be more humorous with a lot of positive energy and likely to deeply engage themselves with. Sleeping early and waking up early improves the concentration and memory power too. This means people will tend to perform better at work and the children in their studies. 28
Waking up early provides more energy: People who have less hours of sleep experience low levels of energy and negativity. They also experience mood swings and temper tantrums. Furthermore, they over indulge in sweet eating to ease their moods. This is not good for health. By gathering good night’s sleep and waking up early one can benefit out of it since the body provides more energy. It also helps in the proper functioning of the body that include increased supply in blood muscles, tissue repairs, bone repair, lowered blood pressure and relaxation of the body. Waking early makes you look more attractive: Waking up early can help you improve appearance. Sleeping and waking late can make you feel and look more tired. Also, less sleep brings puffiness and dark circles around the eyes. According to the research, people who sleep and wake up early look fresh and beautiful. People, who are planning to lose weight, also should wake up early and have their breakfast at the right time. Keeps lifestyle diseases at bay: According to the medical experts lifestyle related diseases such as obesity, thyroid and polycystic ovarian syndrome are caused due to stress, lack of exercise and poor diet. Getting proper sleep can actually relax the body and also help in the normal production of hormones. Proper sleep cycles are required in the overall smooth functioning of all the organs of the body.

Bristol nurse receives one of first-ever National Social Care awards for Covid response
A Bristol nurse has been handed one of the first-ever National Social Care awards by the government's chief nurse for adult social care, in recognition of his outstanding work in response to the coronavirus pandemic.
The new Social Care Awards were announced by the government in May this year and are designed to celebrate outstanding contributions to adult social care and offer recognition in line with national NHS staff awards.
Clinical nurse advisor Reuben Collings works for social care charity Milestones Trust which supports people with learning disabilities, mental health needs and dementia in the South West.
Unaware of his nomination, the 30-year-old was presented with his silver award at a surprise, socially-distanced staff gathering by Milestones Trust's director of operations, Jeff Parry. The government's chief nurse for adult social care Professor Deborah Study joined the event online to say a few words about Reuben's dedication and innovation.
An experienced adult nurse who began working for the Trust in 2014, Reuben led the organisation's pandemic response and has been instrumental in enabling front line teams Possibly the most difficult moment, Reuben to keep the people Milestones Trust supports recalls, came over Easter weekend 2020 and its staff safe. when government guidance on PPE changed almost overnight from staff being told to wear Reuben took responsibility for everything from PPE only when someone they were supporting briefing staff and supporting colleagues with had symptoms of Covid-19 to all staff being the emotional burden of Covid-19 to required to wear PPE at all times. PPE was in developing and conducting infection control such scarce supply in the weeks that followed, audits and procuring PPE (Personal that Reuben set up contracts with suppliers Protective Equipment), something that he said around the world. This meant on some he never would have imagined would have occasions sourcing translators to ensure been part of the job. that the masks we received were of the right standard. Arranging and ensuring all staff members were appropriately trained, collecting data, supporting staff who were trapped abroad at the start of the pandemic and liaising with local authorities and Public Health England also became part of Reuben's day to day work. 32
Hilary Crowhurst, chief executive for Milestones Trust said: "Reuben's calm, pragmatic and above-all incredibly caring approach enabled our frontline staff to navigate what has been a traumatic and often frightening time with greater confidence, by making sure that the skills, equipment and information were there in the right place and at the right time. "He is cheerful, pragmatic, and staff trust what he says. This has been critical, at a time when so much information and advice was confused. He regularly reviewed, interpreted and disseminated complex, sometimes even contradictory guidance, getting information to those who need it around the clock and over a seven-day week.
Reuben added: "It's a great honour to receive one of the first of these important new awards, which recognise the importance of social care alongside healthcare. "I've been really impressed and hugely proud of our staff and the resilience of the people we support through this strange and difficult time. It's forced us to work in a completely different way, but people have been open to that and have taken the changes in their stride."
"Reuben is a highly talented and professional nurse. He embodies the spirit and professionalism of modern nursing and we are delighted to see his skills and achievements recognised with this new, national award."

Should I Enroll My Kids in Karate?
With the growing popularity of the Cobra Kai series on Netflix, a lot of people are curious whether they should sign up their kid in a martial arts class. If you or your child has never joined a karate school prior, it might be a difficult decision that comes with a great deal of questions.
Based on your kid's athletic abilities, he or she might be able to do well without practicing at your home, but the typical martial artist spends a lot of time every day honing their skills. That said, lots of parents worry their child’s education will come secondary to the martial art, and their children's grades will start to slide. Yet, a great many dojos already have a contract in place stating that children always keep a specific grade point average if they want to partake in instructional classes. Generally, the bonuses to putting your son or daughter in a karate class far outweigh the drawbacks. Nearly all teachers place a significant emphasis on discipline and respect for authority, which can be enormously valued attributes for your children to learn during their impressionable childhood. In nearly all dojos, kids are taught that negative activities like vandalism and drug use are not allowed and will ultimately result in being removed from future classes.
With somewhere around 44% of UK people being overweight, children can greatly benefit from being active in a healthy athletic activity like Karate or Taekwondo. Nearly all martial arts provide a substantial amount of exercise for their members, and by teaching The greatest concern amongst most parents your children the pleasure of physical activity is whether their child is going to be safe when at a young age, they have a greater possibility practicing with other children. 8 Ideas for a Clutter-Free Home So you want a clutter-free home? Don’t we all. And the good news is that a clutter-free home can be yours with a little elbow grease, the right attitude, and some tools
Stay on Top of Your Mail
If you’re used to an environment where piles of clutter are everywhere, changing that pattern can seem impossible. But once you’ve gotten used to living clutter-free, the little choices you make to stay that way don’t feel like chores; they simply become a part of daily life. Here are ideas to get you started on the road to a clutter-free home as well as ways to maintain a clutter-free home over the long-term.
Don’t Let the Clutter In Stopping something before it begins is the easiest way to make sure it never happens. This applies to clutter and hoarding clutter. Once clutter comes in—and most clutter does not announce upfront that it’s destined to become clutter—it’s much harder to get it out again. So just say no to impulse purchases, free gifts, good deals on products you wouldn’t buy otherwise, furniture rescued from the sidewalk, and anything that you don’t need or love. There are many types of clutter, so keep an eye out to make sure you're not ushering it into your home. 42
You can take steps to reduce paper clutter, but you can never entirely eliminate it. To prevent papers from piling up, deal with them as soon as you can. The most important thing is to create a system that works for you and puts you in control of the endless flow of paper, not the other way around.
Learn to Love Smaller Keepsakes A clutter-free home does not mean a home devoid of decorations or comfort. The way to keep—and continue to add—items you love is to go for what’s either small (such as a souvenir ornament, not a souvenir armoire) or useful (such as a cuddly blanket, not a collection of cuddly decorative stuffed animals). Thinking small and mindfully will help.
Make Donation a Way of Life
Stick to a ‘One In, One Out’ Policy
Most people gather up a bunch of old clothes or unused items to donate on occasion— when moving, perhaps, or when a particular charity asks for help. To remind yourself that you can always give away what you don’t need, even when there’s no special occasion, keep a shopping bag in your closet at all times and whenever you spot something you don’t use or wear, place it in the bag. If you’re indecisive, wait three or four months before taking the bag to your charity of choice. If you haven’t gone back to retrieve an item, it won’t be missed.
This idea isn’t about owning a certain number of possessions but keeping that number roughly stable over time. You can always add items you truly need but don’t buy anything you don’t need unless you love it enough to donate something you already own to make room for it.
Choose Organising Purchases Carefully
Buy for Your Needs If you’re buying housewares, buy them just for the people you serve not for perpetually throwing fancy dinner parties. You can easily cut out a lot of clutter when you begin to shop for your actual needs. If you do regularly serve dinner for 20 or party like it’s your job, you can still maintain a clutter-free or even minimalist home, as long as you’re very clear in your mind about what’s needed and what’s just for show or “just in case.”
Here’s a paradox: People who love the idea of organising are usually drawn to every type of box, container, and shelving unit that promises to get their lives in order. Yet those very items, especially if bought without forethought or in large quantities, can create even more disorganisation and clutter. Before you buy any organizing product, make sure you’ve decluttered as much as possible and organised using what you already have. If that’s not sufficient, research the right type of organizer before you buy it.
Define Your Style Knowing what you like helps you to limit the number of things you take home. Sometimes, the difference between a minimalist and a clutter-accumulator is simply the ability to say, “I like that, but it’s not really ‘me,’ so I’ll just leave it here.”

NEW APPOINTMENTS WELCOMED AT MAMA BEAR’S DAY NURSERIES “Not only is it positive in diversifying our workforce it is also important for the children in our care to see both genders in care-giving roles. For some children these males might be the only positive male role models in their life.” One new employee is recent UWE graduate Cameron Slade who is joining Mama Bear’s Crews Hole setting. Cameron said: “I’m so pleased to be working for a fantastic organisation like Mama Bear’s. Everyone has been very welcoming and friendly and all the facilities and benefits are great. “I’d really encourage other men to consider a career in the early years sector. You’re able to play and teach all day and being able to inspire the younger generation is really rewarding.”
A leading day nursery group in Bristol is celebrating welcoming three new male practitioners to its growing team. Mama Bear’s Day Nursery and Pre-School group which runs 23 settings across Bristol and the South West is currently on a recruitment drive and say that attracting new male childcare practitioners is important to gender-diversify the early years workforce. Mama Bear’s Day Nursery Managing Director, Chris Marston, said: “Males account for such a small amount of our childcare workforce but there is no reason they can’t excel at high quality care-giving roles and we want potential applicants to know that a career in childcare is an option to them.
Chris continued: “We are still recruiting more practitioners across our Bristol settings in various roles and we’d like to encourage anyone with an interest in early years to get in touch. We also have an impressive apprenticeship scheme with an above average level of pay. “There are many benefits to working for Mama Bear’s and if you’d like to find out more please visit our website.” Mama Bear’s was founded in 2002 and provides childcare for children aged three-months to five years. The Mama Bear’s group now has 15 settings in Bristol, 5 in Devon and 3 in Somerset. More information on Mama Bear’s Day Nursery & Pre-Schools can be found at www.mamabear.co.uk
“The industry as a whole is facing significant staffing shortages so we really wanted to cast the net wide and reinforce our diversity and equal opportunities as an employer. We’re pleased to have found such impressive candidates in these three young men.
