STUDENTS AND PARENTS AGREE: ELS WORKS
❝
Here at ELS, I don’t feel pressured. My teachers help me pass and enjoy every session. I have had a lot of classmates from different countries. We talk about how different each of our cultures are and other interesting things. We have pizza parties, Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas parties, which are wonderful times. I have really nice teachers, friendly classmates and cool memories thanks to ELS. MAN-RU, Taiwan
❝
❝
My favorite part of studying at ELS/Richmond– Kentucky is the way teachers teach us. First, ELS gives us a lot of quizzes and homework every week. That’s a good thing to learn English. I had two essays, four paragraphs, and one presentation in writing. My friends are in other schools, and their school just gave them one paragraph and one essay. I think they will take a long time to learn English or how to write an essay. I think if you want to learn a new language, you should work hard. That’s what ELS makes us do.
❝
I couldn’t speak when I first came to the U.S. to study English. My ELS classes gave me the confidence to learn and speak English well so that I could attend college here. I learned a lot from both my teachers as well as my classmates. The Reading and Writing classes, as well as the Research class, helped prepare me for the business plan I had to create in the class I am now taking at the Minneapolis Community and Technical College.

My name is Sakina and I came to ELS/Dallas in September 2014. I had a great experience. The teachers are very helpful and kind and respectful. They are thoughtful and help you with everything you need, even if it isn’t related to your English class. Not just this, but you can make friends from other countries. You actually learn more than English, you learn some language and culture from your classmates as well. I just graduated in May 2015 and finished Level 112. After I go home to see my family, I will come back to the U.S. and start studying at Texas Tech University, where I will study finance. I know I am ready for this!

One of the things that I like about ELS/Richmond– Kentucky is the peace and tranquility. Richmond is a small city but at the same time warm and welcoming. The people are very friendly and the university atmosphere is completely multicultural. ALEJANDRO, Mexico

Studying at ELS was a life-changing experience. It feels amazing to know that whenever one has a question regarding the English language, there will always be teachers that will be willing to help you. In fact, it is the perfect program for all those who want more out of life, and for all the ones who are disposed to learn something new. At ELS, I learned that being bilingual actually makes a person more interesting. Also, I realized that mastering a second language is one of the best experiences for an international student. There is where I met my best friends, where I discovered that hard work is the key to success, and where I found out that learning English can be really fun.

I have been studying at ELS/Riverdale for four months and I intend to finish the course in August. At this moment I can say that ELS has been helping me substantially to improve my grammar and also my confidence to communicate with native speakers. The classes are taught by very competent teachers. They know how to make you feel comfortable, enabling the student to turn each challenge into an opportunity to learn, to understand your weaknesses by suggesting methods to improve your skills and further development of your knowledge. The monthly activities schedule is another outstanding point for the students. While we not only have classroom activities, we also have opportunities to improve our English outside the classroom. This includes going on trips, visiting famous sites in the city and talking with native speakers (Contact America). I came with a wish in heart to obtain a college degree in nutrition in the USA and I think living this experience at ELS has established the perfect foundation for my path to a successful career.

Greetings from ELS/Riverdale at the College of Mount Saint Vincent in Riverdale, New York! My name is Jeff Vanderwerf, and I am the Center Director at ELS/ Riverdale. As with many ELS students, I have a passion for international travel and relationships. I spent more than 10 years living and working in a variety of countries, including Ukraine, India, Russia, Mexico, and Argentina. Coming to live and study in another country can have many challenges, which I understand: New people, new languages, new foods, and new lifestyles‌these are all exciting, but can take time to get used to. The ELS/ Riverdale staff aims to make every one of our students feel as comfortable in New York as possible. So, please come join us at ELS/Riverdale!

ELS HOUSING OPTIONS Because every student has his or her own needs and preferences, we offer a variety of living accommodations to ensure that you are comfortable safe and feel at home. Student Residence Most ELS locations on university campuses offer living accommodations either on campus or near the ELS Center, making it easy for you to interact with other students and truly experience campus life. Student residence life allows for many eye-opening experiences; you will find you have much in common with your new international friends as you practice your growing English skills and share your own cultural customs and points of view.
Homestays All ELS Centers offer homestay accommodations with an English-speaking host family. ELS host families are carefully selected to ensure that they provide a pleasant and safe “home away from home for their student guests. Some students find that living with a host family can help them learn English faster while experiencing American customs and culture firsthand. Homestay students often develop cherished relationships with their hosts that can last a lifetime.
Apartment Housing If you prefer a more independent lifestyle, you may want to live in an apartment near your ELS Center. Apartment costs and conditions vary widely depending on the location. Some ELS locations have special relationships with local apartment providers that welcome ELS students, families, married couples or executive clients. Your local ELS Counselor can provide you with detailed information on housing options.
