Jimmy finds his mojo...
After 5 months of working at at Dirt Works, I’ve finally “found” my Mojo... and just in time for the Mont too. See, all my mates seem to ride these plain mid level giants that weren’t very bling so I thought to myself, hey, I’ll trick my Mojo up with some pimpin’ colour. With everything going retro these days, I thought PURPLE was the way to go. With purple bits attached to a black Ibis Mojo, and the suspension PUSHed, I finally hit the trail this weekend. What can I say? The DW link rocks!!! It floats over everything and square edge hits feel like gentle bumps. One part that really surprised me were the Race Face turbine chain rings, Solid, sexy (purple) and shifts on the drop of a dime! I am looking forward to taking this thing out to more technical terrain and really pushing this puppy and seeing what it’ll give in return. To be honest, this bike is probably too good for me, I feel like I need to lift my game to be worthy of riding this bike, all in all it’s everything I’ve expected it to be and much much more.
Pat - Mucking about Mark and I loaded up the jolly Dirt Works trailer and left Sydney early on Saturday, destination Thredbo via Canberra for the 2010 DT Swiss Mountains To Beach stage race.

For the next five days we followed the travelling circus that is the Mountains To Beach, from the highest point in Australia down to the stunning south coast of New South Wales. Mark and I settled into a routine after a day or two; breakfast with the riders, pack up our camp, drive to the stage finish for the day via whatever riding we could sneak in, then set up again and greet the tired and dirty riders. Dinner each night was a great way to cap off a day of riding and scenery, with some beers and banter amongst the riders and event staff. Mark and I lost count of how many bikes we must have given the Muc-Off treatment to over the week, but it was enough to use the best part of 75 litres of bike cleaner! Every day the troopers arrived from the field of battle to have their bikes cleaned and lubed, full of stories and smiles. We had a good time ribbing our new friends and talking general bike-crap while cleaning all manner of bike. Without a doubt the Ibis bikes always got the most attention, and by odd coincidence were always the best looking bikes post cleaning. After a week of riding and cleaning the race finished on the beach at Narooma, a fitting stage to conclude a great week! The finish dinner was a real highlight for all involved. A well earned meal in warm surrounds, washed down with some cold beverages. Prizes for the fast people, spot prizes for the lucky people, and an unforgettable week for everyone. Thanks to Wild Horizons for coming up with such a great event and running it so well, and thanks to all the riders that made Mark and I laugh every day.

The frame is made from custom drawn double butted TIG welded Surly 4130 cromoly steel tubing and has clearance for tires up to 2.55”. The parts we chose work well, they’re durable, and they look good too. And see that seat tube? It tucks the wheel in under you so the thing rips on twisty stuff, and the big footprint of the 2.3” tires hold your line. Good value, great ride. Get one.
The Pacer is not what most race-inspired roadies seem to drool over. It isn’t on the cutting edge of design, it isn’t made of the latest ultra light super-expensive materials, and it isn’t festooned with lots of bright colors and graphics. Rather, it is a road bike made of our favorite material, cro-moly steel, using frame geometry that makes it fast and efficient like a road bike should be, but it is not a racing bike. This is a frame meant for all day rides. There are a lot of other road frames out there that are flashier, more exotic, and full of promises most riders only dream of fulfilling. The Pacer doesn’t make promises. It’s simply a great riding steel frame. We decided to offer it as a complete bike to make it easier for folks to try one. It’s laterally stiff but vertically compliant, which is just a fancy way of saying it’s comfy but responds when you push hard on the pedals. It’s got plenty of tire clearance for larger tires than is normal for road frames because larger tires are more comfy. We gave the Pacer 28mm tires, a good all around size that will still allow you to add fenders if you like. As you might expect, we built it up with a parts kit that is more than capable but not snobbish or unnecessarily expensive. No, the Pacer will not impress people who live for the next replica team ‘kit.’

Crafted of Salsa Classico CroMoly, the Vaya is loaded with braze-on’s for fenders, racks, and lowriders. This makes everything from wet weather commutes to full-on touring a breeze. If that long and winding road is beckoning to you… Consider Salsa’s adventure touring 29’er mountain bike, the Fargo. Crafted of Salsa Classico CroMoly, the Fargo is a freak: a disc brake only, drop bar mountain bike designed for fully-loaded touring. A full compliment of braze-on’s on the frame and fork allow for both front and rear racks and fenders. Six water bottle cage mounts (on sizes 18–24”) help keep you hydrated on a long journey. The sloped top tube allows plenty of stand over clearance for those fully-loaded starts and stops. Both frame and fork offers heaps of tyre clearance. Up to 2.3” full knobbies. The Fargo is designed to take you wherever it is you wish to go. Throw a dart at a map, make some plans, load up your gear, and hit the two-wheel highway. Fargo. Go far.
