Why Join?

• Drive more business into your store as we push through promotions and marketing to encourage the community (and beyond) to purchase (and use!) gift cards.

• Keep customers spending local. These cards cannot be used online. Cards can ONLY be used at participating merchants.

No special technology or administration required to participate. (Must accept Mastercard and be able to key in the transaction like a phone order.)

• No back-office administration. Funds are automatically paid to you, via your usual Mastercard processor. There is no fee to participate.

Who Buys Community Cards?

Customers buy them online and give them as gifts, thank yous, etc. to support local businesses. They can be purchased from our main street website, merchant websites, and Facebook pages as well!

Local companies use them for employee rewards, customer appreciation, marketing and other programs!

Realtors and other professionals use them to appreciate their customers and prospects!

2nd ANNUAL TRUNK OR TREAT

Location: COLUMBIA BANK PARKING LOT

One of Bernardsville’s most popular annual events is back! After taking a break from the Covid Pandemic, we welcome the return of our annual Trunk or Treat event. Over 2,000 individuals attend this evening of candy gathering and community.

EVENT DETAILS

• Businesses, residents and community groups are welcome to participate by decorating a vehicle trunk.

• Vehicles must be limited to standard parking space sizes, no commercial vans or trucks permitted.

• Vehicles may arrive for set up by 4pm. Once entered, vehicles will not be permitted to move. If you cannot stay for the entire event, please arrange for other transportation.

• Trunk or Treat judges will select a best in show decorated trunk for the chance to win a prize. Prizes will be confirmed closer to the event date.

• All guests are encouraged to limit candy to one piece per guest. Additional requests for candy can be made ahead of time.

SMALL BUSINESS SATURDAY

Location: DOWNTOWN BERNARDSVILLE OFFICE

Small Business Saturday is the Saturday after Thanksgiving, and now is a great time to get involved. This year, we’re planning a proper Shop Small® Welcome Station for shoppers when they come out. The station will include a list of participating small businesses, treats, and entertainment. It’s a great way to represent your business and greet customers before they start shopping.

EVENT DETAILS PARTICIPATION

• Sign up to help with our Welcome Station and get your business on the Shop Small Shop List.

• Think of a fun treat or experience you can offer to shoppers on the day. It can be anything from giving out hot cider and donuts to live entertainment available at our Welcome Center or in your store!

• Join in on the Holiday Gift Guide to promote your treat or experience. Copies of the guide will be available at the Welcome Station, mailed to all mailboxes within 07924, and an extended digital version will be available online.

• Participate in the “Find Gnomey” townwide scavenger hunt! Donate an item for the winners.

Join us in giving your customers a warm welcome as they come out to Shop Small.

Participation is absolutely free and open only to Bernardsville businesses.

Bernardsville is a treasure. With so much to see and do, even residents don’t quite know all there is to offer.

2022 Marks the first ever Welcome Center, launching at the end of November and located at 1 Anderson Hill Road, Suite 105. A Visitor’s Guide will accompany the physical space where residents and visitors alike can gather information about Bernardsville’s history, dining and shopping, nature and other experiences in town.

RESTAURANT WEEK

Location: VARIOUS RESTAURANTS IN BERNARDSVILLE

Join in this celebration of culinary excellence as participating restaurants offer special menus and prix fixe dinners for two weeks in January.

Sponsors of this event are at the forefront of the customer dining experience following the holiday season. Traditionally a quieter time for restaurants, this event encourages a restaurant goers to try new local cuisine, new menu items on a menu they may know well, and bring out of town diners into Bernardsville for an unforgettable culinary experience.

• Diners can enjoy a sampling of menus in any participating Bernardsville restaurant.

• Create special prix fixe menus, specials, tasting menus, or another unique offer.

• The goal of this event encourages the community and visitors to try new restaurants, enjoy discounted menu items, and promotes a busy environment following the holiday season.

ADDITIONAL OPPORTUNITIES

#Let’s Talk Trash Clean Program

Spearheaded by the Design Committee, this is an ongoing campaign to replace the town’s trash and recycling recepticles, and assist with their regular maintenance. More importantly, this program’s goal will encourage trash to be thrown into a recepticle rather than on our side walks and streets. A full scale campaign will be launched and ongoing in order to remind the community to keep our space clean. As a by product of this campaign, information regarding property maintenance for the commercial corridor will be clarified and easily accessed on DowntownBernardsville.org to assist with sidewalk clean up, weeding, and other regular visual elements to our downtown.

Creative Placemaking Projects

Each year, Downtown Bernardsville will be selecting a creative project, focused on gathering the community, improving our underutilized spaces, and encouraging systems change through the arts. While these projects will welcome generous sponsorships, grants will be obtained in order to achieve the goals set forth in this area, and encouraging partnerships from all sectors to complete each project.

Bernardsville History Walking Tour

Bernardsville’s history is vast. From the Revolutionary War era to modern history, Bernardsville has had its share of famous people, structures, and stories. Many years ago, the Historical Preservation Advisory Committee put together a PDF of a potential walking tour. This document, athough free and readily available to anyone who wants it, is more informational in nature and lacking the support of modern technology. The goal of this project is to breathe new life into Bernardsville’s history, with uniquely designed markers, digital supporting materials, audio versions, alternative languages, and efforts to encourage Bernardsville to become a destination for enjoyment. This, in collaboration with local businesses, among other partners, aims to build Bernardsville’s economic vitality.

Property Improvement & Business Grants

Grant programs will be developed to encourage property owners to complete neccesary work to improve building facades and other structural issues. Additionally, grants for small businesses to achieve their business goals will be established. The goal of these programs encourages growth and improvement on the individual level to help inspire each other and offer help to keep the local economy moving in a positive direction.

Downtown Bernardsville is a community led organization, run and managed by members of the community, like you, to offer expertise, knowledge, and ideas in the areas of Design, Economic Vitality, and Promotion, as well as managing volunteers and fundraising. We welcome all areas of interest and knowledge to join a committee, as no one group is too large or too small to achieve the goals of Downtown Bernardsville’s annual plan.
