Quivira Los Cabos Golf Club: Where golf excellence reaches its maximum expression worldwide.
Golf Aficionado magazine ranked it number 1 in 2022, above iconic courses like Bandon Dunes; Pebble Beach; University of Texas and Royal County Down.
Quivira Golf Club was recognized as the best golf course in the world in 2022 according to Golf Aficionado magazine (golfaficionadomagazine.com).
Antonio Reynante, director of Quivira Golf Club, also recalled that it had already been rated the best new golf course by Golf Digest magazine, in its opening year 2014.
The new list includes fields in which not only the owners play, since here it welcomes residences and apartments owners, as well as timeshare owners, and Pueblo Bonito Group hotel guests.
This new distinction was not sponsored and comes from a group of golf connoisseurs who travel the world and who actually have the career experience to support their authority in this sport. It is, he added, a magazine for golfers who love the game, which is summed up in its motto: “First golfers and then writers.” He reported that Quivira Golf Club is a destination with spectacular views that “take your breath away” located on one of the best spots of Cabo San Lucas coastline of the Pacific Ocean. With this new recognition, Quivira was ranked over iconic fields such as Bandon Dunes in Scotland in 2022; Pebble Beach in California; The University of Texas golf course, at Austin and Royal County Down in Northern Ireland.
Its virtues
Eight years ago when it opened its doors, the owners decided that they would constantly review and care for the design, maintenance, service and quality of the staff, Reynante mentioned.
“We never lower maintenance standards and we strive to have the best agronomic health possible, in a way that fungi does not grow and no other diseases take over the field.”
The experience begins from the driving range at the seashore, an oceanic proximity that no other course in Los Cabos has. Its fields aim to offer an entertaining and challenging experience, but without making it only suitable for experts, he explained. For example, the grass is not too short or the ground not too firm; but neither of those things aim to make it too easy for players, it must always be challenging.
“We seek to offer a golf experience that is middle ground in terms of difficulty; we want people to have a good time playing and to be able to take good shots, so that they take experiences they remember”.
On the other hand, he highligh- ted the importance of having a warm and attentive staff; which is also reflected in the food and beverage stations, where “a menu is included in the rate of $465 per round per person, which is constantly refreshed with food prepared on the spot”.
Additionally, they have the opportunity that Quivira offers to observe the local fauna, since wild animals such as foxes, roadrunners and desert squirrels live free in the natural areas of the property.
A drama field
At the inauguration Jack Nicklaus, the famous player and designer of more than 400 courses, described it as the “most dramatic” he had ever done; and also mentioned that the 6th hole either fascinates you or you hate it, for its unusual seeding. Fortunately, the overwhelming majority have loved it.
For Reynante, the key to this discussion is the fascination that it has generated around the different holes, such as holes 6 and 7, which are “magnificent” but are not “normal”. In the end as a golfer, he said, you appreciate a challenging hole where if you act prudently you can figure it out and make an Eagle, a Birdie or a Par. “A Birdie there it’s an experience that will mark you emotionally, it is an imprint and for this reason there are those who even go to the pro shop demanding a diploma for having played it well”.
The Quivira golf course, he said, is one of the most acclaimed in the destination for its design, the beauty of the views and its flagship holes. For this reason, great care is taken to respect the rules so as not to saturate the field; the same reason that has also prompted Quivira to prepare the construction of a second field on the property.
