Bourne Westfield Strumming to Success

Bourne Westfield Primary

Academy have always been proud of their music tradition. They employ a full-time music specialist who teaches all of the children’s curricular music lessons from EYFS to Year 6, and who also runs a broad range of extra-curricular clubs and ensembles to ensure that every child has an opportunity to become the very best musician that they can be; to ensure that every child has an opportunity to learn to play an instrument and read music.

The Friends of Westfield generously sponsor a recorder for every child from Year 3.

The year 2020 has brought its challenges in the teaching of music, but Bourne Westfield have been determined that they will rise to the challenge and, with the generous financial support of the Friends of Westfield, the answer has come in the form of the ukulele.

The school were delighted to take delivery of thirty instruments from a local company, “Scarletmedia” (www.scarletmedia.co.uk) and the children cannot wait to start learning some festive tunes.

Miss Beavis, Arts Director at Bourne Westfield, said, “I am absolutely thrilled that we can give our children this opportunity. The children are so excited, and it is a great opportunity for us to try something different. The ukulele is a very versatile instrument and played by so many modern musical artists, so I have no doubt it is going to prove very popular.”
