YOU ARE A WOMAN OF MANY ROLES BUT YOUR MOTHERHOOD TRANSCENDS INTO EVERYTHING. YOU ARE AN APPOINTED PERSON TO RAISE UP THE NEXT GENERATION. YOU ARE CHOSEN.

I am now a mum! I got sent home with this bundle of joy. I must admit the uncertainty hit me when I got home from the hospital as well as the overpowering realization of the responsibility I now have. All the books I read are very vague now, some of it I did and could apply but a lot I had to learn by just being a mum myself and from you, the mum in the race ahead of me. On the days I felt really lonely, you just popped in On the days I was so tired, you came and ran some errands On the days I felt completely hopeless – you sent me encouraging scriptures On the days I was so hungry – you brought me breakfasts, lunches and sometimes dinners too. You never frowned upon any of my endless questions. You gave me love, hugs, encouraging Words, coffee, food, help with my baby, help with my house and a shoulder to cry on. When I didn’t have the strength or the energy to draw near to God, He was still there, through You, The mum in the race ahead of me. I am now a mum In the race ahead of another mum May I be all and more than what you have been to me I thank God every day that He sent you across my path Love from the mum short on your heels Let’s run, baby, run!

REVELATION OF

Written by Pastor Ninette Henyeke

‘Theophany’ is the term used by theologians to refer to a manifestation of God in the Bible which is tangible to the human senses. It is the manifestation of God to man in a senseable sign, by which the Presence of God is revealed. Fire is one of the key ‘theophanies’ in the Bible as which God chooses to reveal Himself/His Presence to man. Why do we as #She women talk about being ‘on fire’ for God? Is fire a biblical concept? How can we set our worlds ablaze?

38 WOMEN’S CONFERENCE 2016

Making the invisible God visible. Throughout the Bible there are key examples where God revealed who He was and is through fire. Let us look at a few. The Burning Bush (Exodus 3:1-5 NKJV) Now Moses was tending the flock of Jethro his father-inlaw, the priest of Midian. And he led the flock to the back of the desert, and came to Horeb, the mountain of God. And the Angel of the LORD appeared to him in a flame of fire from the midst of a bush. So he looked, and behold, the bush was burning with fire, but the bush was not consumed. Then Moses said, “I will now turn aside and see this great sight, why the bush does not burn.” So when the LORD saw that he turned aside to look, God called to him from the midst of the bush and said, “Moses, Moses!” And he said, “Here I am. Then He said, “Do not draw near this place. Take your sandals off your feet, for the place where you stand is holy ground.” Moreover He said, “I am the God of your father—the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.” And Moses hid his face, for he was afraid to look upon God. The Pillar of Fire in the Wilderness (Exodus 13:21 NKJV) And the LORD went before them by day in a pillar of cloud to lead the way, and by night in a pillar of fire to give them light, so as to go by day and night.

God was a source of light to his people and lead them by fire. The Fire on Mount Sinai (Exodus 19:17-18 NKJV) And Moses brought the people out of the camp to meet with God, and they stood at the foot of the mountain. Now Mount Sinai was completely in smoke, because the LORD descended upon it in fire. Its smoke ascended like the smoke of a furnace, and the whole mountain quaked greatly. God met with His people in this fire in order to speak to them about the covenant and the terms of their relationship. Tongues of Fire on Pentecost Day (Acts 2:1-3 AMP) When the day of Pentecost had come, they were all together in one place, and suddenly a sound came from heaven like a rushing violent wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting. There appeared to them tongues resembling fire, which were being distributed [among them], and they rested on each one of them [as each person received the Holy Spirit]. God empowered (ignited) the people with this fire. The Old Testament is a physical picture of our spiritual experience in the New Testament. In the above scripture

Sincere praying It’s not difficult to pray! The Lord’s Prayer was given to make it simple, not to make rules: The world is full of so-called prayer warriors who are prayer-ignorant. They’re full of formulas and programs and advice, peddling techniques for getting what you want from God. Don’t fall for that nonsense. This is your Father you are dealing with, and he knows better than you what you need. With a God like this loving you, you can pray very simply. Like this: Our Father in heaven, Reveal who you are. Set the world right; Do what’s best— as above, so below. Keep us alive with three square meals. Keep us forgiven with you and forgiving others. Keep us safe from ourselves and the Devil. You’re in charge! You can do anything you want! You’re ablaze in beauty! Yes. Yes. Yes. Matthew 6:9-13 MSG

In prayer there is a connection between what God does and what you do. You can’t get forgiveness from God, for instance, without also forgiving others. If you refuse to do your part, you cut yourself off from God’s part. Matthew6:7-15 MSG Knowing what is right, and actually doing it, is two completely different things. Prayer is one way to take action on what you believe. It’s a place to bring discipline and demonstrate your true nature. It’s where we become the vessel God unto change. Prayer births vision. Prayer is something we cannot and will not do without when it comes to advancing the Kingdom! #ShePrays and makes it happen.

rowing up wasn’t easy, the bullying that followed when I started year 9 made it not easy. I couldn’t handle it, I couldn’t handle my life anymore. Before Christ I was your typical teen – out late, with the wrong crowd, up to no good on the street corners with our drinks and cigs. I was doing what everyone was doing, what everyone expected me to do but I was just so angry, hurt, with little hope. My cousins were relentless in reaching out to me, constantly doing whatever they could do to get me to church. Once I came to CRC, I was hungry for God. Giving my life to Christ and getting baptised set me ablaze! I experienced happiness like never before and learnt that God had a purpose for me.

(white), increase your protein intake, watch portion sizes, cut sugar and/or dairy and drink a lot of water. GA: This is a tricky question! The general answer would be by exercising regularly and consistently and eating a healthy diet. However, stress, not getting enough sleep and a poor work/life balance can cause major hormonal disruptions that can cause your body to store fat in specific areas. This type of lifestyle usually results in excess abdominal fat around the middle. So sometimes it is not as simple as just eating well and exercising. It is about a full lifestyle change and looking after your health properly. Then you have got to consider the best training style for your body and your goals.

Do I Need to Take Dietary Supplements? GA: Sadly, yes. It would be great if we could attain all the nutrients we need from food alone. However, in this day and age our food is not as nutrient dense as it used to be. This is because, over time, the quality of our soil has decreased due to pesticides and farming methods. The plants no longer get all the nutrients they should from the soil they are grown in. This is why most of us walk around with low-level deficiencies in specific vitamins and minerals leaving us feeling tired and with less then optimal immune systems. Organic food is better as the phytonutrients are preserved but supplements should still be taken for optimal health. Yes, you can get by without vitamins but you won’t feel or look your best and you may suffer from frequent illnesses. The vitamins and minerals that most of us are deficient in are magnesium, B vitamins, vitamin D and Omega 3. It is best to get a very high quality multivitamin. Boots and Holland and Barrett are not high quality. It is better to seek help at private health shops or get advice from a nutritionist. LF: Definitely. Omega’s, zinc & magnesium, vitamin C, probiotic, multi-vit, L-carnitine (weight loss – stimulant free), BCAA’s (Branch Chain Amino Acids) for recovery, fatigue and muscle tear. Protein shakes (Isolate whey)

Does it matter if I do Weight Machines or Free Weights? LF: Depends what you want to achieve. If you want to become a body builder, then machines help toward that, but even body builder use free weights. All free weights engage the core, increase range of movement and allows for more function. Machines are one-dimensional. Free weights incorporate many more muscles firing at one 72 WOMEN’S CONFERENCE 2016

time while working the major muscle group. GA: Yes. Free weights are generally more effective because they allow your body to work synergistically meaning your core works together with your limbs. However, fixed weight machines can train your body to do the opposite i.e. sit down and not use your core while you work your arms or legs. You can also train more muscles at once and get into better positions doing free weights so workouts can be more efficient. However, fixed weight machines do have their place. For example, if your muscles in your hamstrings are very weak, you might not get much out of squatting and could even be at risk of injury. So it may be best to use the hamstring curl machine to connect with these muscles and get them a bit stronger before attempting to free squat. People who want to change the appearance of a specific muscle can also use machines with good results. It really depends what your goals are and how strong your body is as a whole.

How Do I Get Rid of These Flabby Arms? LF: There must be a serious change in your dietary intake along with a comprehensive training program which incorporates load bearing, high intensity and full range of movement exercises as well as spending a session a week on toning your arms. Cardio also needs to take place 30 minutes a day x3 per week. GA: As women, we tend to store fat on the backs of our arms (triceps) due to the hormone oestrogen. The best way to lose fat in this area would be to lose fat everywhere first and then target the triceps muscle to gain a toned appearance. To lose fat everywhere, you would need to do a combination of training styles 4-5 times per week. This would include some cardio e.g. walking, some circuit training and some HIT sprint training (as discussed in question 3). Once your body fat percentage has decreased, you should work on targeting the triceps by doing exercises using body weight and weights e.g. press ups and dumbbell triceps extension.

Are all carbs evil? GA: Lol no! Fruits and vegetables are carbohydrates and they are the healthiest foods on the planet, especially vegetables! Great carbs to include in your diet are sweet potatoes, butternut and quinoa. The best thing to do is to use mealtimes as an opportunity to get as many nutrients as you can into your body. This will ensure
