We are delighted to announce that the 2024 CoMH Research Conference, Futures 2024, will take place on Thursday 12th December 2024 in the WGB

The theme of this year’s conference is:

Transforming Tomorrow’s Health

Futures 2024 will showcase the diverse range of fundamental, translational and clinical research in CoMH that is central to UCC Futures and to the Academic Health Sciences in the South West region

We welcome researchers from all career stages to submit abstracts to showcase and present their work

Online Abstract Submission will open on July 01 and close on Sept 06 further details to follow

IHI (Innovative Health Initiative) Call 8 updated draft topics now available. IHI calls aim to enable the crosssectoral integration of technologies, know-how, products, services and workflows for people-centred healthcare. Applications must be made by a suitable cross-sectoral public-private partnership consortium inc. patients.

The topics are:

• A city-based approach to reducing cardiovascular mortality in Europe

• Novel endpoints for osteoarthritis (OA) by applying big data analytics

• Modelling regulatory sandbox mechanisms and enabling their deployment to support breakthrough innovation

Horizon Europe: ERC

Enterprise Ireland Coordinator Support Grant Deadlines Applications to Enterprise Ireland for European Research Council (ERC) Proposal Preparation Support must be submitted no later than six months prior to the ERC Call closing date. Next deadline: Consolidator Grant: July 17.

Horizon Europe: MSCA

Enterprise Ireland Coordinator Support Grant Deadlines For MSCA proposals, applications for Coordinator Support must be submitted to Enterprise Ireland up to 12 weeks prior to Call closing (submission) date. Next deadline: MSCA COFUND: 04 July.

COST Actions. 60 new Cost Actions have been announced for 2024. Ireland can nominate two individuals to the management committee (MC) of each and nominations from interested parties are now being accepted. Interested individuals must complete and sign the Request to Join the Management Committee (MC) of a COST Action Form and return it to fiona.riordan@ucc.ie. All 60 Actions and the form can be found on the Funding Opportunities Page of the CoMH Research Funding SharePoint under ‘EU Calls - COST Actions’. You are also free to make an application to join a working group of the new Actions directly via the relevant webpage.

National Funding

Irish Cancer Society

Allied Health Professional Research Award. This award funds an AHP-led partnership-based research project. There are two strands in 2024:

1. An Adult-related research project

2. Children, Adolescent, or Young Adult (CAYA) research project.

The applicant team should comprise one AHP working in oncology in a clinical role (AHP Lead) and one researcher working in an academic role (Academic Lead). Project duration may be 12-to-24-months. Deadline: 11 July 2024.

SFI

SFI-NSF I-Corps@SFI Entrepreneurial Training Programme. The SFI-NSF I-Corps@SFI Entrepreneurial Training Programme is intended to support SFI grant holders, and associated team members, to develop entrepreneurial and innovation skills that will enable them to realise new economic and societal impact opportunities for their research. It offers access to the world-renowned NSF ICorps Teams programme. Deadline: 19 July 2024.

HRB Impact Award 2024 to be Launched in August. This award is to recognise current or former recipients of HRB awards who have made a highly significant contribution beyond academic impact. Researchers must be nominated by their host institution. Deadline: 27 Sept. 2024.

Fulbright-HRB Health Impact Awards 2024 to be Launched in August. The Fulbright Commission and the HRB are offering a unique opportunity for Irish professionals with five or more years’ experience in their field to travel to the USA to undertake research or professional development in any area of health. UK / International Funding

Breast Cancer Now Launches Improving Public Health, Equity and Wellbeing funding scheme. Supports scientific excellence and innovative research addressing public health, physical, mental and emotional wellbeing and inequalities that are experienced in breast cancer. Funds will cover staff salary, research expenses, and essential equipment inc PhD stipend. Deadline: 05 Sept 2024.

Mental Health Awards - Applying Neuroscience to Understand Symptoms in Anxiety, Depression and Psychosis now open. This award will fund innovative projects that combine computational and experimental neuroscience approaches to improve understanding of symptoms of anxiety, depression and psychosis.

Postgraduate students and early-career researchers: it is recommended to take the 8 core modules. Experienced researchers: it is recommended to take at least the first two core modules and specialist modules that are relevant to their research area. It is recommended that Research Integrity training should be undertaken/retaken at least once every three years.
