Richer Gears Up for Biggest Rodeo Yet

For three days Richer will become rodeo central with the Richer Rough Stock Rodeo sixth consecutive event. This year’s rodeo which runs from August 10 to 12 is expected to be bigger and better than previous years. The Richer Rough Stock Rodeo attracts over 200 competitors in bull riding, tie-down roping, team roping, barrel racing, steer wrestling and saddle bronco annually. Four of the five years, they claimed the coveted the Heartland Rodeo Association’s title of “Rodeo of the Year”. Pat Stolwyk, with the Richer Community Club said that the Richer Rough Stock Rodeo has come a long way in six years and the secret to their success is the dedicated volunteers who step up to ensure its ongoing success and

growth. “Our volunteers are as passionate as they get,” Stolwyk praised. “Success keeps us motivated and we are still learning; we still have tons of ideas and we are still growing.” The Richer Rough Stock Rodeo has activities for the entire family; including a trade show with over 50 vendors unique to the area, kids’ activities and live music. New this year, thanks to the Farm Credit Canada and Caisse Financial Group, the Richer Community Club received a grant for a permanent rodeo arena and bucking chutes in the community park. The Richer Rough Stock Rodeo committee kicked in the remaining $24,000 needed to complete the project. Weekend events begin Friday at 11 am with to the 4-H “Horsin’

Around” for Crafts, Games, and Horsemanship. Bull-nanza takes place in the evening, followed by the Rodeo Cowboy Social. Saturday starts with a pancake breakfast and a parade. Richer Fireside Youth...

Jesus the Bread that Satisfies

A great time of “chilling” around the fireside happened at the Dawson Trail Park on July 10, where 18 Youth and parents got together for our first Wiener Roast of the summer. Kids learned that their hungry stomachs would get filled with hotdogs and chips but that they soon would get hungry again. We talked about spiritual hunger and the void we all have in our hearts, an inward yearning for peace and fulfillment that can only be satisfied through Jesus Christ the “Bread of Life” (John 6:48). Thank you to Kim Loewen from the Richer Motor Inn for providing the hotdogs for our Youth events. Youth 11 and up are welcome. Wiener roasts are weather permitting and will be planned a day in advance. Please call Michelle at 204-424-5216 or email richerfiresideyouth@gmail.com.

2019 Richer Community Calendars The Richer Community Club is starting to gather information and sell ads spaces for the 2019 community calendars. Local businesses will be listed and a different photo displayed for each month. Families have the option of listing their birthdays, anniversaries and memorials. If you want to have this information listed, please email the names as you would like them to appear on the calendar, along with the date and category (B, A, or M). For example: John Smith, Feb 15, B; John and Jill Smith, Sept 23, A. The information can be emailed to richercalendars@ hotmail.com or phone Sarah at 204-422-6311. Advertising spaces will be sold for as little as $100 a block. The calendar is a great way for local businesses and organizations to advertise because their ad is displayed year round. Profits made through advertising will go towards improvements to our playground area in the Richer Dawson Trail Park. If you have any great community photos you would like to submit, email them to address above. We need a lot of photos to fill up each page of the calendar.

Richer Fire Reminds Drivers to Be Alert

The Richer Fire Department was recently at a very serious traffic accident where a ½ ton truck hit a parked semi. There were some serious injuries to all 4 people from the 1/2 ton truck. Our firefighters would like to remind everyone how important it is to stay alert while driving. On a lighter note the firefighters did a control burning of a very old farm site who most locals would know as the Phaneuf farm south of Richer on PR 302 (it then became the Jubinville place and now the Tetrault brothers from La Broquerie who purchased the land for retirement property for themselves). The firefighters took down a barn, a house and 2 sheds as they were all in very poor condition and located too close to the 302 Hwy as well as the Municipal Road running east.

While some of the buildings were directly under a main hydro, all went according to plan. The work done was in trade for a car they used for vehicle extrication course. They are always in search of cars for this purpose.
