Indigo Program Benefits Richer School Library The students at Richer School have a little more reading material in their local library thanks to the Indigo Love of Reading Foundation’s 2019 Adopt a School program. From September 14 – October 6, the program united Indigo, Chapters and Coles stores, employees, and customers to raise funds on behalf of local schools. In Manitoba, the Adopt a School program enriched the lives of 7 schools including the Richer School through the program’s fundraising efforts. After a couple of weeks from program start, all of Richer Schools books were purchased. Further, the Indigo store which adopted Richer School has raised over $1,500 more that will towards the school library.

From The Pastor’s Desk...
Anonymous Charitableness
By Pastor Ben Funk Well, Christmas time is upon us once again! For most of us it is always such a wonderful time of year as we begin to make a conscious effort to turn our attention to Jesus our Lord. It is He that introduced humanity to the idea of gift, giving Himself. It has been a pleasure over the years to observe the various stages of development in children as they go through the phases of eagerness for what gifts they were going to receive, a eagerness for the gifts they were going to give, to realizing that the gifts actually are not really that important. This speaks of a steady realization that Christmas is really about others in our family, our community, and beyond. In the Christian world it is a steady realization that Christmas is really still about others, God’s gift, the Lord Jesus Christ and Him coming among us. As we begin to take His example in relating with others, in deeds of kindness and forgiveness, we realize that life really is happy and joyous. Jesus did model ways of doing charitable deeds that have particular application at Christmas time: Jesus gives the following instruction in Matthew 6:1-4 “Beware of practicing your righteousness before men to be noticed by them; otherwise you have no reward with your Father who is in heaven. So when you give to the poor, do not sound a trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, so that they may be honored by people. Truly I say to you, they have their reward in full. But when you give to the poor, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, so that your giving will be in secret; and your Father who sees what is done in secret will reward you.” (NASB) Even though Jesus’ gift to humanity was not anonymous, yet anonymous giving is a significant blessing to the recipient of the gift giver. There is a tremendous joy in receiving anonymously, particularly when the gift arrives completely unexpected. My wife and I have been at both ends of anonymous giving, recipient and giver. To be a recipient of an anonymous gift at the right time has a powerful impact on one’s life. Giving from that perspective is a gift from the heart with no thought of reward, glory, or recognition. To be a recipient of an anonymous gift stimulates a motivation to want to pay it forward to someone else. At Christmas time there are various charities that we can participate with, which would imply giving anonymously to others who are truly in need. This Christmas we need to be mindful of the gift of life that God the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ provided through the gift of His only begotten Son so that each of us can receive life, life eternal. Here we celebrate the arrival of the child Jesus, and commemorate it by the giving of gifts and nice

Christmas cards to each other that compliment the season. The charity that we engage in this Christmas season, may it indeed be an internal affection of the heart reaching out to those around us. May your hearts be warmed by selfless acts of charity, goodwill, and service to others, even as Jesus did by coming to serve and not to be served. I would suggest, may all your charitable acts be done in secret and be rewarded only by the Lord Jesus in the inner sense of peace and joy. Merry Christmas from Richer Fellowship Church.
