Firefighters Host NYE Bash
The Richer Firefighters hosted their annual New Year’s Eve Social at the Richer Young at Heart Hall. In what is now becoming a tradition, guests had the opportunity to purchase whipping cream pies and invites the firefighter of their choice up to a target and let him have it… all in the name of raising money for local non-profit groups. Last year, firefighter Rob Desaultel approached Dan Guetre (Dawson Trail Dispatch) with the idea, and after a temporary display was made, hundreds of dollars was raised. This year, Guetre designed and purchased a more permanent display and donated it to the fire department. “Ok, who doesn’t want to see a fireman get pied!” says Guetre about the investment. “Some of the firefighters like to think out of the box and when it raises money for charity, we need to support them. They risk their lives, give a lot of their time to the community and are willing to do this? I say bravo!”

2016 A Success for Richer Fireside Youth As we flash back to 2016 the Richer Fireside Youth has had many highlights: Youth and their families kicked off the year by going Glow Bowling and invited kids from the Tues. Night Sports group to join in the fun. With the help of parents, the Richer Community Club and many who voiced their support from the community, Adult and Teen Challenge came out to speak to the Youth of Richer and surrounding areas about addictions. During the first 2 weeks of August some of our senior Youth went to Fisher Bay Bible Camp and
got to interact with Youth from all over Manitoba. Throughout the summer months we looked forward to Monday Night wiener roasts where Youth could learn more about God around the fireside, and play soccer and baseball with friends. The Youth also enjoyed pizza and floor hockey nights where parents were invited to stay for the evening. Finally, as part of every Youth night, kids got a chance to listen and respond to life lessons being taught from a biblical stand point. As leaders of the Richer Fireside Youth we are thankful to the Richer School who allow us to use the gym to run our Youth program, for the contributions, financial and otherwise, that come in from the Richer Community Club, local businesses and friends who partner with us, and a big Thank You to the parents in the communities of Richer, Ste. Anne and Ross who encourage us to teach the Gospel to their children. We look forward to another exciting year with these great kids! Youth ages 12-17 will meet on Friday, Jan. 13 and Friday, Jan. 27 from 7 – 9 pm in the Richer School gym. There is no cost but parents must register their Youth. For more information please contact Michelle Driedger at 204 424-5216 or email richerfiresideyouth@gmail.com.
Rising Above In 2017
Another year is in the rear view, fast fading behind us. As I take some time to reflect on the year just past, it seems that my journey has been both challenging and profitable. Usually we enter the year enthusiastically, with great optimism, and good intentions. In some things our excitement gradually begins to fade away from particular disci-

plines, such as resolutions that do not fit into our lifestyle. 2016 was a particular year that brought us significant challenges. But, looking back we realize those challenges were stepping stones for spiritual and emotional growth. We may have said at times, “I can’t do this anymore”!! And you are so right, however, it is significant, to make personal in our lives, “In Christ alone I stand”. Well, here we are, enthusiastically embracing the idea of renewed optimism for 2017 in our lives. What will the year bring? Because I know who holds the future, I would encourage each one to keep Jesus our Christ as center of your life in your journey for 2017. If you would like to know what that means visit us at Richer Fellowship
Church. Please, stay on course, surround yourself with persons who will encourage you on your spiritual journey. May this year ahead of us be a year of spiritual growth and a time of new beginnings in

Lots of Winners in Seasonal Lighting Contest
This year saw the kick off to the first annual Richer Christmas Challenge. For those whom are not aware, every house in the L.U.D. of Richer was entered for a chance to win gift certificates from our local restaurants. Your L.U.D. Committee (Chairman Roger Godard, Brent Wery and John Lenton) spent a few days observing each homes displays prior to Christmas day. The list of decorated homes was very large and it was impressive that so many houses were decorated or lit up. One 1st prize home, eight 2nd prize homes and one 3rd prize home were selected and awarded as winners. Thank you to this years sponsors for your kind prize donations. This year’s sponsors are the L.U.D. of Richer, the Richer Inn, Ti-Beauville Restaurant, and the Timberline Restaurant. Please support your local businesses.
Crib News… December 13th saw the Richer Crib Club celebrate Christmas with a potluck supper. After the group ate a great meal, they hosted their regular crib tournament with Claude Caron taking first place for the evening. George Dmitruk came in second, while Dave Haraldson was in third place. The Booby prize went to Glen West, and Don Dmitruk won the 50/50. They held their regular biweekly tournament on December 27th, with a fairly small turnout, but still those who attended had fun, snacks, and some great pizza from Burnell’s Food Plus. In first place was Suzanne Dmitruk, second place went to Carole Marleau and in third was Laura West. Bringing up the rear, Claire Logan got the Booby prize. Dan Ross won the 50/50. Congratulations to all our winners. The Richer Crib Club January tournaments will be on Tuesday, January 10th and 24th, so plan on coming out to join us for some fun and socializing. Everyone welcome!
