From The Pastor’s Desk Stimulated To Win

By Pastor Ben Funk When we come to the end of a calender year we seem to reminisce and reflect on some of the highlights of the year. I imagine 2017 was no different. 2017 was an exciting year to say the least. It was a journey that brought challenges and victories. It brought achievements and growth in life and to life. The question might be, did we win in every event, and did we win honestly. As children, from their earliest phase in life want to win at what ever they seem to be engaged in or with. However, they are not alone. Each one of us, if we are honest, like to win at what ever we do. Our desire is to “win” at work or with our families, etc. Most of us want to be on top in life. It is important though, to have a certain awareness in the obsession

to win we may be motivated or stimulated by pride or an insatiable appetite for recognition. It may not always be best to win sometimes we need to celebrate in the winning of others and enjoy their limelight. Sometimes we get distracted by cheating in our obsession to win. I am aware that life itself is a game and in order to win, some think it’s OK to cheat, which in the long term will bring negative results. However, there is one thing that we can be winners at without any kind of cheating at all and it is promised that we will win without any doubt. When it comes to eternal life, we don’t have to cheat because Jesus Christ has won that for us. Now some people will still try to cheat in the sense that they want to work or earn their way to heaven. They

believe that if they do just a little more good or if they are a little bit nicer or be a little more moral, then they will convince God that they should have eternal life. But God’s standards are high and unyielding: perfection with no sin at all whatsoever! We can’t game that system since all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23). Jesus has won our eternal life though and so we don’t even have to try to gain an advantage with God. As far as God is concerned, the battle is over and we now have the victory over sin and death because of Jesus. And that is a victory worth celebrating and living out with gratitude to God in our lives in 2018. Come and see, this is the life you have been looking for. From Richer Fellowship Church a very Happy New Year. May you always find Jesus near in all that you will experience in 2018. Ben Funk is the Pastor at the Richer Fellowship Church.

Richer Fireside Youth: 2017 Reflections

Some highlights from 2017 were: Glow Bowling, pizza parties, a Mom’s Feature, several Wiener Roast Mondays, Sunday Morning Bible Study, and the most joyous celebration of all, a Baptism. Although 11 of our Youth have either moved away or unable to attend our Youth group any longer, we are thankful for the many opportunities God has provided to reach out in friendship this past year. We welcome Youth 12-17 to join us in the New Year as we learn about God, play games and build friendships. Youth will meet at the Richer School Gym on Friday Jan. 12 from 7-9pm and Friday Jan. 26 from 7-9pm. Parents must register their Youth once for the year. For more info please contact Michelle at 204-424-5216 or email richerfiresideyouth @gmail.com.

Christmas in the Park

The Richer Community Club recently hosted another successful Christmas in the Park handing out more than 350 hotdogs, and gallons of coffee and hot chocolate. Santa was on hand to give early Christmas treats to children, and he even had an opportunity to trade in his reindeer for the day and hitch a ride while visiting with families on the sleighs circling the park. Another tentative event is planned for the park a bit later this winter as the Richer Community Club teams up with the Richer Daycare to host their annual Winterfest with lots of activities for kids and hotdogs and drinks for the entire family.
