Richer’s Chase the Ace Postponed… Again middle of has accumulated over $36,000 in the Jackpot,” said Dan Guetre with the RCC. “We were really hoping that we could get the game up and running by now, not only because of the potential cash prize, but because this was a really great way for the community to get together and have some fun.” The Jackpot money is sitting in a separate account ready for when the game can start again.
The Richer Community Club has regretfully decided to postpone the popular community Chase the Ace (CTA) event once again. The tentative date for a continuation of the game is now March 26, 2022. The CTA, which has been running
since early 2016, came to a stop in March of 2020 with restrictions put in place due to the Covid-19 pandemic. “We have awarded over $200,000 in cash prizes over the years and the current game we were in the
“We are ready for when the Provincial Health Orders allow us to gather is larger groups and we recognize we want and need all members of the community who want to participate, to be allowed to join in,” added Guetre. “Our volunteers who look after the CTA for the RCC are continuously in contact with the province and the Richer Inn and keeping us updated.”
Richer Community Groups have Success in 2021 Despite Pandemic Many are looking forward to 2022 with some uncertainty as the Covid-19 pandemic continues and Provincial Health Orders in place to protect the public hamper many events that we have all taken for granted are cancelled or postponed. This has also affected our community and the Richer Community Club (RCC) as the year of 2021 created circumstances where the Richer Rough Stock Rodeo had to cancel the rodeo, making it two years in a row. We all miss the cribbage nights, Bingos and Old Tyme Dinner & Dances. This did not mean our community did not have successes throughout the year. Various service groups, including the RCC, got creative and thought out-ofthe-box to ensure our community was bustling with events. The RCC was able to kick off the spring on May 8, with the help of the community, for a day spent outdoors cleaning up the park. The Premier Tech Multiplex had just completed its first full season
with ice and has thousands of people visit it over the winter. The start of this ice skating season saw the RCC gifted a Zamboni from a local business and the expanded ice skating surfaces at the park are amazing guests. The Dawson Trail Museum grounds hosted many farmers and craft markets throughout the year. The pergola at the entrance of Dawson Trail Park is now 99% complete and will soon feature a board recognizing those who have contributed to the park and a time capsule embedded in concrete to be dug up in the year 2070. New signage was added to the entrance of the park to help direct those visitors who are constantly streaming through the community now. Bull riders created some “practice pen” events throughout the summer taking advantage of the idle rodeo arena. On July 1, the RCC with the help of the Richer Fellowship Church (RFC) and some local businesses created a high altitude
fireworks Canada Day Celebration with teams of drivers spread out through the community delivering hotdogs, popcorn, drinks and gift bags to families. On August 13, the RCC created a successful pop-up Vaccine Clinic. This was co-hosted by Premier Tech. Businesses and various local service groups came together to offer music and food to those who needed the shot. Seine Pharmacy jumped on board to help immediately. In mid-September, almost a dozen service groups came together to host Le Rendezvous… a celebration of Métis, Francophone and Indigenous cultures. Featuring over 35 entertainment acts and multiple venues, this event was an entire success. This weekend also allowed the Dawson Trail Museum to host their annual Fall supper. The revised “take-out” dinner sold out! The RCC was happy to finally setup their new teepees and test out their “General Store” building. In mid-October, the RCC made the park available (even hosting a family BBQ… thank you again RFC!) to Recreational Opportunities for Children (ROC) Eastman where they handed out free sports and activity equipment to families. To finish up 2021 with a bang, the RCC hosted their annual community Christmas in the Park on December 17. They changed it up this year by holding it on a Friday evening rather than during the day. It was an outstanding turnout! Bonfire blazing, Santa on-site, gift
bags for kids, tobogganing on the hill, sleigh rides throughout the evening! And of course… ice skating! The RCC is now looking forward to 2022. Projects include raising funds to redo the rink boards, covering the bleachers, additional lighting in the park, a storage facility and more. If the past year taught us anything, for the RCC it is being grateful and in awe of all the service groups, businesses, volunteers, local governments and fellow board members for continuously taking on the challenge to create an exciting community for residents and having the word go out where visitors from far and wide feel welcome. Thank you to all our neighbours. We are always looking for more “minds” to join the RCC board. Never ask “Why don’t they do that?”… realize how easy it is for you to be the “they”.

Reminiscing
By Pastor Ben Funk I am thinking this past year is one for the history books. It was a year of juggling our lives with varied difficulties that have not been a part of what we know as normal. But, when we take some time to reflect and reminisce we soon realize we had some really good times. The various community committees skillfully improvised in ways that we could have some fun times in the park. To which I say again, Thank You! As Richer Fellowship we were more then delighted to be part of the volunteer group to make the events enjoyable for all. You

see, reminiscing is important for all of us, young and otherwise. In some instances it affords a sense of fulfillment in a relationship with God as well. This past year we had somewhat of a problem that challenged us to allow the present to distract our focus of shaping our lives. The community leaders worked hard to provide a valued distraction by creating recreational activities and events that brought a sense of excitement in our lives. As we reflect back also to what God has done in and through our lives we begin to realize a renewed joy and peace in our inner being. You see reminiscing unveils the invisible hand of God who shapes and guides us to be-

come the person we are. Remembering our journey with God is important, because it keeps Him fresh in our minds. Remembering God’s faithfulness in the past will help us as we walk through difficult times in the present. Just like remembering the past summer and fall of the good times we have had with our friends and family, it brings a smile to our face. This also influences us with a sense of joy knowing that we enjoyed ourselves. These experiences reintroduce a healthy environment into our bodies helping to keep us healthy. The same goes with tell-
ing our happy stories, these stories are powerful, they encourage others to remain joyful. Retelling our stories is an invitation to an exhilarating joy, specially this time of year, it is good to reminisce. Reminisce on our own life story and on the story of God as it is experienced in our lives because of Christmas – Jesus coming among us. In the coming year, 2022 may the light of God be the light of your path, like the lights along the runway of an airport. Happy New Year – Richer Fellowship Church, 50 Southeast Drive, Richer.
