Looking Back at 2022

By Dan Guetre

The year 2022 was filled with a mixture of what we could accomplish in the community with Provincial Public Health Orders in place at the beginning of the year to a full out “let’s get back to creating” as public health orders were gradually dropped. The Richer Community Club would like to thank all the community services groups, the RM of Ste. Anne/LUD of Richer, volunteers and businesses who have continued to support our mandate to improve the quality of life for our residents and region. In January 2022 the Richer Community Club (RCC) was just getting over a very successful Christ-

mas in the Park and watched as the Dawson Trail Park continued to be very active with ice skating and other winter activities. With that said, the committee responsible for the RCC Chase the Ace who had planned to start up the game again had to make a tough decision to formally postpone the game again until late March. The RCC ensured the park had free firewood available for visitors and the dedicated ice maintenance crew ensured the rinks and trails were always available. continued inside...

In February 2022 the RCC had made the park available to the Richer Métis Local who produced a very successful Louis Riel Day Celebration even though the cold temperatures forced them to relocate the celebration to the Richer Young at Hearts Club. Music, dancers and traditional food was available. New flood lights were installed around the rodeo arena which made the expanded ice skating surface a

March 2022 saw the first of many announcements by the Dawson Trail Arts & Heritage committee giving the community a sneak peak of what was to come as their regional project came together. April 2022 saw the first signs of spring as the ice started to melt. The Dawson Trail Museum hosted their 2nd Winter Market

the return of their monthly Dinner & Dance. Louise Sabot was recognized at the RCC monthly meeting for the years she has dedicated to the RCC and the community. The Richer Crib Club and the Bingo committee started hosting their events again. May 2022 saw the Manitoba High School Rodeo Association host an event in the Dawson Trail Park. Hundreds of young competitors from dozens of families flocked to the park to compete. Also, the Dawson Trail Museum hosted their open house featur-

ing live music with the added announcement of plans from the Dawson Trail Arts Tour committee. Members of the Richer Firefighters volunteered their time to help the Richer Daycare in a project to remove old wood and stumps from the property. Our community post office relocated to their new location at the Richer Esso. The RCC Chase the Ace with a Jackpot of over $41,000 was won. June 2022 started off with the Richer Fellowship Church hosting an event at the Dawson Trail Park partnering with the Adult & Teen Challenge. July 2022 saw the return of the in-person Canada Celebrations at the Dawson Trail Park and the Dawson Trail Museum. Music, food, and activities were capped off with a fireworks display. From The Pastor’s Desk...

We Are Never Alone

By Pastor Ben Funk

It is always exciting to step into a new year. A year that is full of the unknown: unknown experiences, unknown challenges, unknown blessings, and yes, maybe even unknown trials. We will have sunny days and cloudy days. We will experience dry days and rainy days. Even though the journey ahead is mostly unknown, we can be assured of one thing; God will walk with us on each and every day. Showing us that we are never alone. “God is our refuge and strength, an ever present help in trouble.” (Psalm 46:1) God is our refuge, He protects. God is our strength, He provides. God is our ever-present help, We are never alone! When I read this text, I stop and ask myself; How is God my everpresent help? In what way is He my refuge and strength? In that sense you may think to yourself: I cannot see God; I have never heard God speak; How is He my refuge, strength, and help? Simply put; the answer is found in His Word, the Bible. It is through the pages of Scripture where we find our refuge, our strength, and everpresent help. Yet, for most of us, this refuge, strength, and everpresent help is on a dresser in our bedroom or on some electronic device. It is comforting when we face some challenge and find insight from Scripture. How many times have you read a devotional

book or listened to a mono log and the content of that mono log spoke right to your need? Yet, if we carried God’s Word around in our memory, then we would have access to it all the time. Many have found wonderful benefits from memorizing God’s Word. Hiding God’s Word in our heart helps to prevent sin (Psalm 119:11), it helps to shape our character (Proverbs 23:7), it gives light to our path (Psalm 119:11), it allows us to know God better (Deuteronomy 4:35), to face the fears and anxieties of this life (Psalm 119:49), it gives us hope for our eternity (Isaiah 40:31), showing us that we are never alone. For the months of January and February, I would like to encourage you to memorize Psalm 46:1 (listed above). Then take some time during those same eight weeks to meditate on Psalm 103. I would not be surprised that you will come to agree that God is your refuge, your strength, and ever-present help! We may face challenges in 2023, yet when we place our trust in God almighty we can have hope. HAPPY NEW YEAR to each and all from Richer Fellowship Church.
