Multiplex Ice Graphics Added

The ice rink under the Premier Tech Multiplex has a new added feature after a centre ice logo and graphics were added in the historical style of the community’s past community festival, Black Bear Days. Additionally, the “PT” was added in four places on the rink to thank one of the major capital sponsors of the covered structure and employer, Premier Tech Horticulture. Thanks to the ice making crew and volunteers!
Christmas in the Park A Team Effort
The community’s annual Christmas in the Park hosted hundreds of families from near and far. Sleigh rides, free hotdogs, hot drinks, bannock over the giant fire pit, ice skating, a visit from Santa and gifts for the kids was featured during the evening. The Richer Recreation Committee would like to thank all the volunteers, service groups and businesses who are dedicated to making this annual event a success. Santa takes some time out to pose with Mrs. Claus, and the hard working elves and mascot!
Richer Landscaper Wins Award When Troy Barkman started a small landscaping business 8 years ago while still in college completing his Landscape Horticulture degree, he probably wasn’t focused on the awards and accolades he would accumulate as an entrepreneur. Barkman’s Paradise Landscaping and Design has been awarded the title of Rural Employer of the Year at the 17th Annual Awards of Distinction hosted by the Apprenticeship and Certification Board at an event hosted recently in Winnipeg. Barkman is no stranger to the award as he was also nominated last year and felt honoured just to achieve that level of appreciation from employees and peers. This year’s win after being nominated is next level to him. Troy Barkman, owner of Paradise Landscaping, Richer received the award for employer of year at the Manitoba Awards of Distinction, hosted by Apprenticeship Manitoba, Skills Canada, and the province of Manitoba.

From The Pastor’s Desk...
Lonely Road, Lonely Bin By Pastor Ben Funk
A change of pace in life is a good thing. All to often we find ourselves somewhat isolated. Being distracted with or by gadgets is less stimulating then we have been led to believe. Picking up a friend or being picked up by a friend is invigorating. Telling stories or engaging in stories allows us to be stimulated in our own mind, heart, and emotions. This activity helps us to become creative in our own mind. It’s like a young person in a sandbox with creative imagination. It also seems to happen magically when the first snow fall comes children take advantage of the new sticky snow to attempt to build (you guest it) a snow man. They had a picture in their mind what it should look like, and off they went. Oh yes. I mentioned a lonely bin. This lonely bin may have been full or empty, I do not know. A empty bin could become a utility for alternative uses or application, like the sand or snow. I am reminded of a empty bin on a lonely road in a story in the
Bible. A man in antiquity by the name of King David who inquired of a farmer if he had an empty grain bin. King David asked the farmer if he could purchase the bin for an alternative use or application, such as a sacrifice. The farmer answered that King David could have it and use it. No said the King, I need to purchase the bin. It needs to cost me something to be in intimacy with God. Discipline always comes with a price or a cost, either in resources, or in surrender, or submission to a cause. So the king purchased everything he needed to make happen what he was instructed to make happen (2 Samuel 24:18-24). That lonely ice covered road led to that one lonely bin, that was there to serve a purpose. We can allow our imagination to wonder as to the many uses we could apply to the lonely bin. As we approach this New Year let’s be optimistic in how we approach life and it’s successes. May I also suggest (should there be failure) to look at failure as stepping stone rather then a stumbling block. Your success does not come free, there is always a cost. Like King David, let’s intentionally pay attention to God in our lives, in how He desires to lead and guide our lives on a daily bases. Happy New Year.
