CELEBRATING OVER 20 YEARS OF RICHER NEWS!

Volume 21 Issue 1

Park Infrastructure Upgraded Visitors to the Dawson Trail Park in May encountered some obstacles as the Richer Community Club (RCC) along with volunteers and local contractors tackled a large project upgrading the plumbing and electrical. The Richer Community Club needed to solve the issue of blown breakers and inconvenient water access when hosting events. With the project near completion the RCC expects the upgrades should help create a more accessible park for future events.

Right on Target

The Mockingjay Archers hosted a successful open house recently in the Dawson Trail Park.

From The Pastor’s Desk Summer is shaping up quite nicely. We have now shifted from winter recreational vehicles to summer recreational vehicles and the fun continues. Those that love the dirt, black dirt that is, gardening, should now be anticipating the plants to come to life. Many gardens are also flower gardens generating all kinds of admiration. The month of June will present us with the summer solstice, meaning the longest day of the year. You, like myself, might say, summer has only just begun? Never-the-less, many fun events have already begun. The question might be; are you enjoying yourself? There may be detractors that may stand in the way of enjoying yourself. Are those detractors inside of you or outside of you. If they are on the inside of us it is ok to look at those detractors, and evaluate them in order to identify them, in order to deal with them. One of the first questions we might ask; how is my self love? Do you love yourself? This is not selfish love at all. You see, to love others and be charitable toward them we must love ourselves first. To love ourselves is to love our own company, and be content to be alone with yourself. Enjoying your own company. You see, Jesus said, love your neighbour as you love yourself. We also find a similar thought in the golden rule, do unto others as you would have others do unto you. That has huge implications for service toward others, or socializing with others. To love self motivates us to pray for ourselves, to be at peace with God, and with ourselves. To be at peace with ourselves creates an environment of peace around us which invites others into our presence. Inviting others into our presence empowers others to replicate that experience in their lives to impact others in the same way. Notice how it has the potential of snowballing in your social circle and then on into the community. We can be most impactful when we truly love ourselves and enjoy our own company. Difficulties and challenges simply thaw because their power has been minimized by the power of love and appreciation. The beauty of all this is that beneath all of this there is a heart of selflessness to impact others with the love of Jesus. Go ahead, be at peace with yourself, and enjoy your own company, as you enjoy Jesus’, company. Cheers – Pastor Ben.

Crib News

Richer Crib Club held its first tournament of the summer on Tuesday, May 8th, and we had a surprisingly good turnout! As usual, there were lots of snacks, and lots of laughs as it had been a whole month that some of us hadn’t seen each other. Norm Burnell won the evening, while Rochelle Anderson came in second, and yours truly won third place (that was a surprise!). We gave the dimes to Carole Marleau for fourth place, and we welcomed a new player, Cam McGavin, who took the booby prize. The 50/50 was won by Dave Haraldson. Congratulations everyone! Our next summer tournament will be Tuesday, June 12th at the Young at Heart hall, starting at 7 p.m. Entry fee for summer tournaments is $10 per person, no partner required, so come on down and join us for a fun evening!

Richer Fireside Youth...

On Friday May 11 a group of talented young musicians rocked the gym at Richer School with 2 hours of upbeat and powerful songs. As part of the evening, 3 of the musicians shared a personal story of faith. Drummer Troy Banman, told how his grandfather surrendered his life to Jesus Christ in his old age and was immediately set free from his lifelong addictions to smoking and alcohol. Lead Vocals Sheila

Friesen, shared with the Youth girls in particular the pressures of dating in high school and how important it is to be satisfied with who God wants you to be before you can make someone else happy. Pastor Andrew Lambert wailed out his lament, “Bless the Lord oh my soul,” from Matthew Redman’s “10,000 Reasons,” relating the song to God’s faithfulness to him while living in Richer as a child dealing with his mother’s death. Youth has wrapped up in the Richer School gym for another year but look forward to starting up Wiener Roast Mondays in the summer. See you at the Fireside!
