WINTERFEST 2018

Submitted by Sarah Belisle

Another successful Winterfest was hosted on February 25th by the Richer Community Club and Richer Daycare for the 9th consecutive year. For anyone who wished to lace up their skates, the skating rink was in top shape. The warmer temperatures made it enjoyable for attendees to go for sleigh rides on two different teams of horses, enjoy the bonfire, coin scramble, candy toss, color the snow with snow spray, and meet the BSI Bear. As well, the hard working volunteers face painting in the warm

up shack had a never ending line till the end of the event. You could also grab a free hot dog and hot chocolate or coffee. These must have been well enjoyed as we ran out of the 16 dozen hot dogs by around 3 pm. This shows how popular the event has grown and we will adjust for the increase next year. The entire event, activities and food were FREE and was made possible thanks to all the volunteers who put in so much time and the many

donations including Caisse Financial Group, Weston Bakery, The Dawson Trail Dispatch, Maple Leaf Foods, Burnells Food Plus as well as the donated sleigh rides. The Richer Daycare held a 50/50 raffle to raise money towards playground improvements at the day-

care. The raffle raised $894, and the winning ticket went to Denis Delaine from Winnipeg who won half the amount raised.

From The Pastor’s Desk

Seeing God In Others By Pastor Ben Funk

For those of us who are summer people winter can seem somewhat like a prison. Spending time around the fireplace with family and friends reminiscing about stories that have been in our most recent past. Looking at our wood pile as it is beginning to show the persistence of cold temperatures. Those of us who have had the opportunity to escape the cold temperature, if for at least a week, may be some what energized to finish the winter with a bit more optimism. We are thankful just the same, for safety and security of our warm homes. There is a small little verse in Psalm 46 that gives hope and a realization that there is some one that has our best interest in mind. The writer says that God is our refuge, strength, and ever-present help. As you read this you might say to yourself, how is God my ever-present help? In what way is He my refuge and strength?’ You say, I cannot see God ... I have never heard God speak ... How is He my refuge, strength, and help? Might I suggest that you may have seen God in a person that you met in a time of need and they did the right thing for you that you needed. How is God our refuge? Again, you might have experienced a situation when you needed comfort or safety and someone comforted you or shielded you. All to often we have a distant view of God, when in reality He is near, working through human beings, who served as God’s servants. Some times we say I can’t do this anymore, and then a still small voice says I’ve got you, trust Me. That could be the voice of God that you just heard, and therefore you drew strength from that. Thus we must conclude that God is – our refuge, our strength, and our ever-present help. When we are enjoying the wood crackling fires with family and friends take some time to reminisce about the little God moments we may have had as we are waiting for summer to return. In the mean time enjoy your snowmobiles while you still can and some of us beginning to get our Harley’s ready for the first ride of spring. In another note - There is an open invitation for you to come and visit us at Richer Fellowship Church 10:30 Sunday mornings. Cheers – See you soon Pastor Ben. Ben Funk is the Pastor at the Richer Fellowship Church.

Crib News The Richer Crib Club met on Tuesday, February 6th, for their regular bi-weekly tournament. We had a great time, and along with our usual buffet of goodies, we even had pizza! Winners for the evening were Norm Burnell in first, Laura West in second and Peter Mawle in third. Paul Saindon brought up the rear, taking the booby prize, and Norm Burnell also won the 50/50. On February 20th, we had a pretty good turnout, and as usual, lots of snacks. Claire Logan took first place (what a shock!), while Carole Marleau came in second, and Dave Haraldson placed third. Melody Olenik got the booby prize, and Wally Adair won the 50/50. Congratulations, everyone! Our March tournaments will take place on the 6th and 20th, and we’d love to have you join us and have some good fun with lots of laughs, loads of goodies and snacks and great crib. We meet every second Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the Young at Heart hall. See you there?!
