Richer Recreation Committee Doesn’t Hold Back On Programming

The Richer Recreation Committee (RRC) isn’t shy when it comes to creating both educational and fun workshops and events for the area. After initially testing the

water in late 2023 with a Hunter Safety Course and a Family Paint Day, more than a half a dozen additional events have been planned.

Registration is open on all by going to the Richer Community Club Facebook page and scrolling through the course tiles posted. The next workshop scheduled is a Canadian Red Cross First Aid Course to be held on April 13.

In early January, the first of two Babysitting Certificate Courses was hosted, the second one is scheduled for April 27 and registration is currently open.

A Stay Safe at Home Course will be held on May 4, a Family Fairy Garden workshop has been booked for May 11, and while the first PAL course on April 6 is

full, another one is scheduled for May 25.

Richer and RM of Ste. Anne residents can participate and receive a discount when signing up thanks to the RRC and the RM of Ste. Anne.

The museum is proud to hold a Spring Tea Fundraiser Event on Sunday May 26th from 11 am to 4 pm. First sitting is from 11 am to 1 pm and the second sitting from 2 pm to 4 pm. More details to come next month.

From The Pastor’s Desk... The Lone Leaf

We have all heard a lot about freedom in the last couple of years. At times it sounded like the definition of freedom had been lost in individualism. In the following conversation we find a similar confusion with the definition of freedom. Sometime ago in the imaginary world, there was a leaf attached to the upper limb of a very tall tree. This leaf was very content with its life until one day it saw birds flying above the forest. This leaf, then, yearned to be free like those birds flying overhead, free to fly and experience many different things. The leaf struggled and struggled to be free – just to be free it thought. Then one morning it happened, just at sunrise, a strong gust of wind jerked the leaf from the limb it was attached to, and sent it sailing above the forest. It was free, at last it was free! It could now flit about as it pleased. It finally got its way. How exhilarating it was for the leaf to see all the strange, new sights. It was great. What an experience. What a life. Soon, however, the leaf began its journey downward and, eventually, it joined the other dead and dying leaves on the forest floor. There the sun’s lethal rays struck the leaf. As the leaf withered and died, it cried out, “This is not freedom! This is not freedom! This is death!” Too late the leaf realized that freedom does not mean separation and complete independence. How wrong it was.

By this story we know that the answer to real freedom is definitely not in doing our own thing. True and lasting freedom does not mean complete independence, but rather complete dependence on the Lord our God – Having a heart that cries out, “Lord, what would you have me to do?” Only as we depend on God for His love, mercy, grace, and strength, which He gives us through Christ Jesus, do we

have freedom (Galatians 6:7). The leaf was free while on the limb, it was there that it received nourishment for life and its lushness. This would also be true by being connected to others in our circle of life. We need each other for strength and encouragement. Let’s not be like that leaf and become discontent in our connectedness with others in life. Our hope is in being connected and dependent in a life giving way. May I suggest, “be full of life”.

The Richer Crib Club met for their regular biweekly tournament on Tuesday, February 13th when we filled six and a half tables! Our winner of the evening was Paul Laurin with Cornie Klassen coming in second and Rick Betts bringing in third place. Cathy Searles and Claire Logan shared the dimes for fourth place and Alexis Berard took the Booby prize. We had two 50/50 draws which were won by Gerry Sabot and Cornie Klassen.

Then on Tuesday, February 27th, on a very cold evening, we still had a good turnout. Our winners were Art Bergman in at first, Paul Saindon at second and Mike Pelletier third, with Rick Betts taking the dimes for fourth place. Two 50/50 draws were made with Claudette Nault and Deanna Marriott winning them. Norm Burnell got the Booby prize.

Congratulations to all our winners! You are invited to join us for our next bi-weekly tournament, on Tuesday, March 12 at the Young at Heart hall at 7 pm. Entry fees are $5 per person, 50/50 tickets are $1 each, no partner required, and snacks and coffee are always free!
