Staying Connected By Pastor Ben Have you found it difficult to stay connected with family and friends this spring? This is the “normal” time when we should be enjoying the arrival of warmer temperatures such as going to the greenhouses for some possible new gardening ideas. Or maybe the “normal” was going to the park for a picnic with family or friends. Everything seems to be upside down to what we normally call “normal.” But, we are quite inventive creatures. We are finding alternative ways to stay connected through virtual devices. We can see each other, we can hear each other, but we are unable touch each other. We are a touchy feely kind of culture. I have not, (like most of you) been able to hug my children or grandchildren but we have stayed connected. Our church (here in Richer) has had to suddenly upgrade our
communication system to online and live stream our services. The rush to equip ourselves has been exciting and challenging. We too have been able to stay connected with one another, and meeting new participants online at the same time. In all of our adjustments, let’s keep the love for one another alive and flourishing, through using a new method of doing so. To love one another is a fundamental key to holding relationships together. Might I suggest that of all the mistakes we can make in life, let’s not neglect to love. Love is the attribute in human relationships that is not a mere suggestion, it is actually a commandment. To love is to accept each other for who we are and walk along together. This helps fundamentally to be neighbourly to our physical neighbour, and to anyone else we may meet. You see, we love because we
were first loved by the God of heaven and earth. This God provided our payment for guilt of sin so that we could also live and love. In our Bible we find some sobering words. “He who does not love does not know God; for God is love” (1 John 4:7-8). Let’s all plan for eternity. To have an attitude of love toward our neighbour, this love requires effort. I hope you have made that effort to remain connected with your neighbour, family, and friends. We, at Richer Fellowship, would like to invite you to our YouTube channel each Sunday Morning at 11am, or look us up anytime @ “Richer Fellowship” on YouTube. And folks… do not lose heart… stay connected.
Covering Rink
The Premier Tech Multiplex is ready for the next stage as completion of the foundation winds up.

Thanks to some exceptional help, volunteers with the Richer Community Club have completed the foundation for the new structure that will cover the outdoor rink at Dawson Trail Park. With the assistance of Steph Pattyn of Pattyn Ventures, RVP (Raymond Vauclair Projects) and Premier Tech, the nearly half a million pounds of concrete blocks are settled into place, leveled, and bolted together. COVID-19 pandemic protocols were implemented in order to keep the project moving forward. The next step will involve the delivery of the steel trusses in the next week or so. Lighting and landscaping will soon follow. When complete, the 110’ x 180’ covering will be one of the largest pavilion style structures in eastern Manitoba at approximately 50’ tall. The building will be known as the Premier Tech Multiplex as they secured the naming rights for the next decade. The Richer Community Club is still hoping to host a community gathering in the park this fall in order to acknowledge this accomplishment and celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the community park.
Low Key Summer Could Result in Busy Fall As summer approaches the Richer Community Club (RCC) has had to make some decisions regarding events planned at the Dawson Trail Park. A brand new event that was scheduled for late April, called Le Rendezvous, has been postponed to May of 2021. This was an event supported by the RM of Ste. Anne and Manitoba150. It was in conjunction with the Metis Red River Expedition Ride involving dozens of riders, Red River carts and wagons stopping in Richer for a weekend to celebrate the history of the Dawson Trail and Manitoba’s 150th birthday. Funding has been put aside to recreate the planned weekend the following year. The next event planned was the ATV Derby scheduled for June. The Richer Community Club is considering postponement of this event as opposed
to cancelling. The new date, if we are able to host it, will be sometime in the fall of 2020. Canada Day celebrations in the park may have to be cancelled due to COVID-19 and government regulations regarding large gatherings. The Richer Community Club plans to discuss this event at its next meeting whether this is a virtual meeting or a physical one with COVID-19 safeguards in place. The Richer Rough Stock Rodeo, while not scheduled until August, may have to be cancelled or delayed. Current provincial guidelines released recently are not allowing festivals like this to take place until September or later. The rodeo committee is planning on discussing and viewing all options. This decision should be made in early June. The RCC Chase the Ace is postponed to a minimum of
September. A JACKPOT of over $36,000 will be carried over and only 36 cards remain in the deck. The RCC has worked hard over the years to create many annual events and it is exciting to see the community and region participate and embrace the activities. Richer is also home to a very active Crib Club, a successful weekly bingo, the Young at Heart Club and their monthly dinner and dance. The successful museum had grown to take on crafts markets and entertainment. We can only hope that when the green light is given, the community can again come out and experience the “Richer” we are all proud of.
