Caring Volunteers Needed Seine River Services for Seniors Inc is in need of some volunteers who would like to give some time to assist seniors. If you enjoy yard work, sharing a conversation with seniors by phone, contact the community resource coordinator Melanie at 204-424-5285. We’d love to have you on our team in supporting older adults in our communities.

Volunteers Needed for Annual Park Cleanup We will be doing our annual Dawson Trail Park clean up on Saturday, May 8 at 1 pm. We will be picking up garbage, putting new bags in garbage/ recycling, raking wood chips around playground, sweeping the concrete around the picnic shelter, fit pit and rink area and checking the bolts on play structure. We are also setting up the portable skateboard and the basketball nets along with a couple of hockey nets for ball hockey. If anyone is able to come help out for an hour or two it will go that much quicker. If you have kids or grand kids who can lend a hand it is a great way to have them take pride in our park. Garbage bags and bottles of water will be provided. Bring proper footwear, gloves, and a rake if you have. As a bonus, snacks will be provided by Timberline Restaurant for the kids! Please help by respecting the Provincial Health Orders for Covid-19 when coming out to volunteer. Even with the rules in place, this is a great opportunity to see your neighbours and friends!

From The Pastor’s Desk...

The Value of Mom By Pastor Ben Funk Spring time in Alaska. Not quite. Spring time is a time of renewal. What was resting and dormant all winter is preparing for new life and fruitfulness. We find ourselves waiting for life to appear in the trees and other types of plants and seasonal flowers. All April I have seen people raking their lawns, seemingly hoping to expedite the appearance of new life in the grass. Some are eager to get into their gardens. Someone had gone and rented a tiller to till the garden, the tines had only penetrated two inches into the soil because of frost still present. The snow has been gone for a while now, it should be summer, but it is only April. I am looking forward to see what beauty the flower gardens will bring. Each person is unique in choosing colour schemes, reflecting their own unique personality profile. Spring time is also when we celebrate our mothers. Each one of us has a mother, without a mother we would not be here. Mothers are the giver of life, and once they have given life, they continue to care. Mothers are truly valuable, and honour needs to be given to her. Mothers fit into many roles as nutritionist, educator, nurse, maid, counselor, peacemaker, entertainer, transportation center and many more. We must appreciate and thank mothers regularly for their value to our life. Dear reader, an attempt to put a price tag on the value of a good wife and mother, should conclude with Proverb 31:10, “She is worth far more than rubies.” If one sums up all that a mother does in a day or week, it would read similarly to the exhaustive list in Proverb 31. The wise advice after such a discovery would be Proverb 31:28, “Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her”. The bottom line would read as Proverb 31:31, “Give her the reward she has earned.” I say, “Amen”. Children, may I suggest, “reach out and honour Mom”. On another note. “Richer Fellowship” (The YouTube Channel Title) has worked very hard (with some success) at developing a good spiritual and practical product on our YouTube Channel. Our conversations have been around some of the world’s challenges in the past year. In particular, encouraging our viewers to remain optimistic rather than pessimistic. Our conversations have also at-

tempted to address some of the emotional issues that all of us have faced at one point or another, such as fear, loneliness, etc. We have always stressed that we need to allow Jesus into our lives to help us to be empowered by His Holy Spirit to make life doable. The system has not recognized the emotional and spiritual casualties that our societies have experienced. Realizing those needs (I believe) we have been quite intentional on our channel to offer hope to the listener as it is found in a relationship with God. Our conversations have also been LiveStreamed each Sunday morning at 11:00 AM on our YouTube Channel “Richer Fellowship”. For those of you who prefer the radio, we are also available on 87.9 FM at 10:30 am in the immediate vicinity. Happy Mothers Day from Richer Fellowship Church. Remember, God does not give a spirit of fear, but of love, power, and a sound mind.

Richer Receives Heritage Piece The Richer Community Club (RCC) recently received a heritage piece that will soon be placed within the community as a reminder of one of the founding cultures of the community. A new replica Red River Cart was delivered by master cart builder Armand Jerome, one of the few craftsmen in Canada that is able to create the cart based on historical designs. The cart costs were made available thanks to a grant from Clearview Coop and Federated Coop. RCC President Mark Lanouette (left) with Kelly and Armand Jerome.

Bleachers Upgraded and Refreshed

Recently, with the help of a local contractor, one of the three sets of bleachers received both a structural and cosmetic facelift. With the price of lumber hitting record highs, the Richer Community Club may hold off giving the other two bleachers the same attention. The initial project utilized lumber purchased prior to the dramatic increase. Photo by Dan Guetre
