Richer to Complete Rodeo Arena Project with Farm Credit Canada Support Farm Credit Canada (FCC) has announced in August it will help the Richer Community Club (RCC) with its permanent rodeo arena project through its AgriSpirit Fund with a $20,000 grant. FCC is giving $1.5 million through its program to 78 community groups across Canada to support rural capital projects. In honour of Canada’s 150th anniversary, the fund was increased from $1 million. “The FCC AgriSpirit Fund is an investment in rural Canada,” said Sophie Perreault, FCC executive vice-president and chief operating officer. “It’s about partnering with individuals and groups who are committing their time and energy for the purpose of bettering their communities.” “We couldn’t be more thrilled,” says Dan Guetre, RCC board member and Richer Rodeo committee member. “This generous funding is a vote of confidence for our community and will not only increase the accessibility to Dawson Trail Park but save our committee money and time annually.” Previously, the rodeo committee has had to rent the rodeo arena for events held at the park. A per-

manent structure will save on this rental cost and the volunteer time it takes to set up the structure before each event. It will also attract other events to the community. “We are looking at a few turn key events that can be hosted here in Richer,” explained Guetre. “Every event we host brings in visitors and revenue to the area creating economic spinoffs. We appreciate the generosity of Farm Credit Canada and thank them for recognizing the value in our project.” The Richer Rodeo Committee is looking forward to hosting additional events and groups ranging from 4H, Gymkhana, barrel racing and livestock shows. “Over the years we have developed the space, the seating and other aspects of the park to attract residents and visitors… this project development is the icing on the cake,” says Guetre. “It will open a lot of doors to a variety of events.” The FCC AgriSpirit Fund awards between $5,000 and $25,000 for community improvement projects, such as hospitals and medical centres, fire and rescue equipment, playgrounds, food banks, libraries, arenas, swimming pools, recreation areas, and community centres. Nationally, 1,214 applications were received this year which demonstrates how invested rural Canadians are in their commu-

nities. Over the past 14 years, the FCC AgriSpirit Fund has supported almost 1,100 projects, an investment of more than $12 million.

Caisse Supports Rodeo Arena Project

The Richer Community Club was the recipient of a $3,500 grant from Caisse Financial Group recently to put towards its permanent rodeo arena project. The Richer Rough Stock Rodeo committee organizes the annual rodeo and has seen the event grow into one of southeast Manitoba’s largest outdoor events. The recent event saw attendance increase over the previous year. “It’s one great success story you can be proud of year after year and the Caisse is proud to be a contributor and community partner!” said Raymond Bédard with Caisse Financial Group.

From The Pastor’s Desk

By Pastor Ben Funk Wow, August has been a busy month. Started out by getting on our Harley’s and traveling to the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally in Sturgis South Dakota, took in the Richer Rodeo, etc. What an exciting time that was. We were glad to be a small part of the volunteering crew at this event. This week I went fishing with my grand children to the Whiteshell. You see, life is quite normal at our house, really no different than at most other homes or families. That is what we so enjoy about Richer Fellowship Church… we are a family of ordinary people who live lives that are occupied with personal interests. Yet life includes a significant spiritual element that celebrates a valued personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Relationship with God is a high priority yet it does not diminish relationship with our neighbours and our friends and our interests. The people at Richer Fellowship connect well with life and general life responsibilities, both personally and in the community. Richer Fellowship is always open to visitors and people with curiosity, all we ask that you come with an open mind. Come and visit us and experience your home town church as we worship God and lean of His Christ in Richer. We meet Sundays at 10:30 am at 50 Southeast Drive. Cheers.
