Richer Rodeo Celebrates 10 Years with Record Breaking Attendance
An astounding 12,000 walked through the gates during the mid-August Richer Rodeo this summer, surpassing the number of attendees by almost 3,000 from the previous year according to organizers of the event.
The annual rodeo was celebrating its 10th show and has become, over the years, one of the premier rodeo and country fair events in the province.
Over 300 rodeo competitors competed in the rodeo arena, almost 3 dozen entertainers hit the stages and roamed throughout the park, and 130 volunteers swarmed the grounds to keep spectators entertained and the weekend running smoothly.

Dawson Trail Museum
Where did the summer go! The museum committee wishes to thank Calum Gerardy, our summer student for a job well done. Calum accomplished many tasks during his eight weeks of employment such as helping at the summer markets, applied a stain to the Red River Cart and pergola, the mural, the front doors, plus basement projects and maintaining the flowers to name a few. We all enjoyed working with Calum.
Special thanks to all the Richer Metis students who maintained the grounds during the summer at the museum. Their work was much appreciated. Great job everyone.

Richer Crib Club met on Tuesday, August 13th, for the last of the summer tournaments, and we had a great turnout of 31 players. Our winner of the evening was Paul Saindon, with Claire Logan in second place and Wally Adair in third, while Ray Burnell got the dimes for fourth place. Laurel Hager took the Booby prize. Two 50/50 draws were won by Paul Laurin and Roger Chenier. Congratulations to all our winners! Our first regular tournament of the 24/25 season is on Tuesday, September 10th, 7 p.m. at Young at Hearts hall. Starting then, we will play every second Tuesday until the end of April. Entry fee is still only $5, no partner required, and coffee and snacks are always free, so come on down and join us!
RCC Chase the Ace is back every Saturday at the Richer Inn. Jackpot is currently over $4,000! Buy your tickets on-site between 5 pm and 7:45 pm for only $1 each for your chance to WIN!
Summer Market
The final 2024 Richer Summert Market will be held on September 7 from 10 am to 2 pm at the museum. Kids can play in the bouncy castle as you visit all the vendors. Museum is open for tours as well as the gift shop. There is something for everyone.

Firefighters Add to Growing Memorial Bursary Fund
The Richer fire department just competed in a firefighter challenge at the Kleefeld honey festival and won second place. Richer Fire won $500 and chose to donate it to the Brent Wery memorial bursary.

No-Fuss Seed Saving: Keep Your Garden Growing

Saving seeds from your garden is a rewarding way to preserve your favorite plants and ensure a bountiful garden next year. Whether you’re interested in heirloom varieties, reducing your gardening costs, or simply enjoying the full cycle of growing plants from seed to seed, it is easy to get started.
One major benefit of seed saving is that over time the seeds adapt to your garden conditions providing better plants for your location. Having seeds you saved from your garden can come in especially handy when you want to share with your friends or take to your local seed swap.
turn a darker color and the outer pods will turn brown and dry. Veg seeds are ready when the fruit seems overripe.

For zone 3, now is the time to start collecting seeds or letting flowers mature into ripe seed pods so you can collect them later.
Seeds that are very easy to save are from herbs, beans, peas, poppies and cosmos. Tomato seeds can require cleaning but are so worth the extra step.
Although seed saving can be quite easy, not all seeds are suitable for saving and some require special handling. Avoid pumpkins and squashes, cucumbers and petunias as you are not likely to get the results you expect from these seeds next year. If you are new to seed saving here is are some quick tips: 1. Some seeds can overwinter in your garden and dont need any of the care discussed above. My 2 favorites are poppies, violas and lettuce. Let the seeds fall where they may and they will pop up next year.
By saving seeds, especially from heirloom varieties, you help preserve genetic diversity in our food supply. This diversity is important for resilience against pests, diseases, and changing climate conditions.
