Alexander Hernandez and Santos Padilla, New Britain, CT Arrested: 12/21/2010

A security guard at 50 residence reported an unoccupied, suspicious car in the driveway. Upon officers’ arrival, a second guard reported there was a male suspect inside the residence. The suspect, later identified as Alexander Hernandez, was hiding in a closet, drinking a bottle of wine he had stolen from the residence. Officer’s took Hernandez into custody and located another suspect, Santos Padilla, hiding in another section of the house. Officers searched the entire residence with a Farmington Police K-9. Hernandez and Padilla were in possession of marijuana at the time of arrest.

Thinking LOUD Out Many Happy Returns For a long time now I’ve been keenly aware that most of the things I really, really want to buy aren’t things I really, really want to own. In fact, it’s only a matter of actually getting them home before they go from “OMG, I’ve got to have it” status into the “what the h*#ll was I thinking” column — at which point I return them and their sales slips to their bags and hang them on the kitchen door so I can take them back as soon as possible and buy something else. I can’t tell you how much this pleases my husband, who considers himself lucky to be married to a woman who has mastered the very fine art of enjoying some good-for-the-soul impulse shopping, then undoing it all a day or two later! He calls these returns “rollovers” on the theory that I’ve been rolling over the same $29.99 for almost thirty years now. I guess I have to agree. But secretly, I think of them as a series of birthday gifts to myself — with many happy returns.
