Thinking LOUD Out Nature’s Grand Finale Recently, I found myself despairing over what seemed to be a pretty drab Fall — the trees in my yard having achieved only some dark golds and maroons not especially inspiring. Then yesterday, I took a different turn on one of my walks, and lined up along one side of the street was a stand of maples the color of lemon, orange, and raspberry sherbet. They were so bright, they actually glowed in the late afternoon sun, and that’s when it occurred to me that those trees ablaze with color were like that last burst of fireworks on the Fourth of July or the big finish to a Broadway musical — you know, when the whole cast takes the stage singing and dancing and making you wish you had enough talent to join them. Yup. Those trees were Nature’s grand finale — and almost enough to make up for the months of bare limbs and gray skies destined to follow. Almost. It takes an awful lot to make up for February.
