Detailed designs for an exciting new Library and Community Centre in Oran Park have been submitted for development application assessment.

Designed by the award - winning Brewster Hjorth Architects, the contemporary Library and Community Centre will meet the needs of a growing community well into the future. Mayor of Camden, Cr Lara Symkowiak said the state - of - the art facility, to be delivered under a Voluntary Planning Agreement by UrbanGrowth NSW and Greenfields Development, would offer modern services to residents.

“The new Library and Community Centre, set within an exciting and vibrant town centre, will be a very important community space for generations to come. It will inspire learning, creativity, relaxation, celebration and enjoyment for many."

“Incorporating high ceilings, a sun - drenched foyer and unique views across the Town Park, this facility will be part of a contemporary civic precinct in the heart of the Camden LGA. This precinct will also include Council’s new centralised administration building, a Civic Plaza, Town Park and Leisure Centre.” Cr Symkowiak said.

This Library and Community Centre are expected to be completed in 2017.

Easter - The Greatest Gift Have you ever received a gift you didn't like? Like a knitted rasta teapot warmer?

An inflatable slip and slide when you live in a unit? A puppy when you’re a cat person.. that sort of thing? There are better gifts.

Gifts that you remember and cherish. Gifts that show us that the person who gave them knows us intimately and truly ‘gets’ us. Gifts that cost a lot - either in monetary terms - or in terms of thoughtfulness, effort and care.

Easter isn’t typically a time for thoughtful gifts. At Easter we give chocolate. Through the power of the almighty dollar supermarkets continually try to find new ways to get us to purchase larger smarties-filled-caramel-coated-specialedition-chocolate-bilbies so we can give more to our kids than anyone could safely eat in a year! Chocolate is fair enough but it’s hardly life changing.

Easter at NewLife Anglican is all about new life. It’s about a gift that we haven’t deserved offered at great cost. It’s about Jesus. The Easter story is that Jesus’ death on the cross wasn’t a terrible tragedy that happened to a good teacher, but was rather the fulfilment of a plan that God had put in place from before the world began. On Good Friday we remember that Jesus offered His sinless body in our place - dying that the price for our sin might be paid in Him. Easter Sunday we remember and celebrate that God raised Him from the dead proving that the price was paid and that life eternal is now possible.

The Bible tells us that the wages of sin is death but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus. That’s the gift that we’ll be celebrating at NewLife. We’ll have three services to help you do that with us. Maundy Thursday (March 24th @ 9pm) we’ll remember Jesus’ betrayal, Good Friday (March 25th @ 10am) we’ll remember His death on the cross and then on Easter Sunday (March 27th @ 10am) you’re invited to join us as we celebrate His resurrection. That’s an Easter gift that truly keeps on giving!

Stuart – New life Anglican Church

Chris Patterson MP is urging anglers and fishing organisations in Macarthur to apply for a share in more than $15 million funding as part of the 2016 NSW Recreational Fishing Trust projects.

“Applications are now open for innovative projects to improve recreational fishing in our region,” Mr Patterson said.

“The NSW Government is committed to reinvesting the sale of recreational license fees back into the recreational fishing sector in Macarthur,” Mr Patterson said.

“These projects are a great opportunity for fishers, clubs and community groups in Macarthur to get their own fishing project afloat to enhance and improve local facilities or increase fish stocks.”

A wide range of projects have been funded in recent years, including: recreational fishing education workshops, fishing platforms and cleaning tables, artificial reefs, freshwater fish stocking, prawn stocking in estuaries, fish aggregating devices and Fishcare Volunteers.

Applications for funding from the Trust made by individual anglers, fishing clubs and local councils are carefully considered to ensure benefits to recreational fishing are maximised.

The NSW Government is proud of its recreational fishing sector, which generates around $1.6 billion to the State’s economy and accounts for more than 14,000 jobs.

Projects that will enhance coastline, inland rivers and dams and lakes will be considered for funding, so make sure you complete an application.

Applications for funding are open until Monday 21 March.

Contributing funding, joint applications and in-kind support or voluntary labour are also encouraged.

Oran Park Cricket Shines

Oran Park Cricket Club has had an eventful inaugural season filled with many highlights. With eight teams across both the junior and senior divisions, the club also conducted a Milo In2CRICKET program for 5 -8 year olds and competed in the Milo T20blast for 8-11 year olds.

The highs definitely out weighed the lows this season, with the U10’s playing in the semi finals, some of the U14’s transitioning into senior competition and having two senior sides in contention for semi finals with one round remaining.

Oran Park Cricket Club also participated in The Primary Club of Australia Marathon Cricket at the Sydney Cricket Ground. A wonderful event supporting the charity that provides sporting and recreational facilities for people with disabilities.

Another highlight for the club came when the Milo In2CRICKET participants had the opportunity to take part in the field entertainment during DAY 2 of the Australia versus West Indies Test match which was also held at the Sydney Cricket Ground.

After such an eventful and successful season, Oran Park Cricket Club has a lot to look forward to next season. The club has a brand new home ground in Oran Park which includes two training nets and a club house with two more grounds and extra training facilities.

Easter Message of Fr David Catterall In the midst of events like the Sydney Royal Easter Show and the school holidays, the approaching celebration of Easter is the time of year when Christians celebrate the Life, Suffering, Death and Resurrection of Jesus Christ. For many people – both Christian and non Christian alike – Easter is often associated with the sharing of Easter eggs and Hot Cross buns, and children often associate this time of year with the arrival of the Easter bunny. We might not realise it but all these “symbols of Easter” that we find on the shelves of our supermarkets find their origins in the Easter story proclaimed

by Christians. For example, the Easter egg is a symbol of new life; and when a traditional chocolate Easter egg (not like those fancy ones today that contain trinkets and lollies) is broken open and the owner finds nothing inside the egg, this is a symbol of the empty tomb – in other words the tomb that was found empty by the disciples on that 1st Easter Sunday, because Jesus had risen from the dead. The Hot Cross bun also finds its origin in Christian symbolism; as the cross made of dough is a reminder of the cross upon which Jesus died.

For me Easter 2016 takes on a special significance this year as I celebrate my first Easter as the founding Parish Priest of Australia’s newest Catholic parish – the parish of St Mary MacKillop, here in Oran Park. To celebrate our 1st Easter as a new faith community we will be having a number of celebrations and events, including Masses (church services) on Easter Sunday morning at our northern Mass centre of St Mary Mother of God Church, Leppington at 8am, and at our southern Mass centre in the grounds of the St Justin’s Catholic Primary School (94 Oran Park Dr, Oran Park) at 10am. As our 10am Easter Sunday Mass will be held “rain, hail or shine” under the covered and shaded outdoor learning area (COLA) we are asked to bring a chair. More details about these events can be found on our website www.marymackillopparish.org.au Whatever Easter 2016 means to us, and whatever the joys and struggles we are facing, I pray that this time of year will be another opportunity for all of us, both individually and with family and friends, to celebrate the great gift of life.

Female Empowerment with Brand New Day

Brand New Day Female Services is a not for profit organisation that launched in 2012, which aims to be a portal providing useful information for women and their families during difficult times.

Brand New Day Female Services strives to serve the women of Macarthur and its surrounding areas with all valuable information in one place allowing them to gain access to the businesses and local services within the community that would best suit their needs.

Their easy to navigate website acts as a directory of information which contains all the answers, resources and opportunities local women might need to successfully work towards making the best decisions for both themselves and their families. The information on the website directs individuals to information related to healthcare, services and many other systems.

Monthly workshops, events and monthly mingles are held in the Oran Park Community Room addressing important issues for women both personally and within the household. Topics such as stress, parenting and confidence are addressed. The events and speaking opportunities provided by Brand New Day Female Services aim to increase awareness and provide women with a safe and supportive platform where they can share their stories and experiences.

While the organisation works to ensure that women are equipped with resources and information, they also work to successfully fulfil their newly launched community project called Project Bluebird.

Project Bluebird aims to meet the needs of the women within the Macarthur area who are struggling. They achieve this my collecting clothing for a Winter Appeal, participating in Christmas Appeals, creating Crisis Bags, Happiness Kits and many more. Project Bluebird is therefore able to fulfil one of their primary goals which is to see a need within the community and have the ability to help.

Brand New Day Female Services hopes to continue to serve the women of Macarthur and its surrounding areas by providing the best possible help during difficult times through its up to date information portal. It strives to ensure that all females feel empowered and have a strong sense of safety, happiness and self worth.

Triple P Positive Parenting Program, is a free seven-part series workshop dedicated to assisting parents of teenagers by addressing many important parenting topics. Triple P, will be held weekly, commencing 8th March, at Level 2- Momenta Advisors Room, Oran Park Podium Shopping Centre.

Triple P Positive Parenting Program aims to address topics such as positive parenting, encouraging appropriate behaviour, managing problem behaviour, dealing with risky behaviour and implementing parenting routines.

The course aims to provide vital and useful information to parents allowing them to be better equipped when dealing with difficult situation which involve their children.

Weekly sessions will be held 6pm – 8pm, March 8th, 15th, 22nd, 29th and April 5th and 26th.

Please arrive approximately fifteen minutes before the commencement time in order to complete registration and ensure that the workshop can start on time.

The course includes the once a week workshop as well as telephone support sessions.

New Clubhouse for Narellan Jets Junior Rugby League Football Club Construction of a new clubhouse for the Narellan Jets Junior Rugby League Football Club is now complete and ready for the community to enjoy.

Mayor of Camden, Cr Lara Symkowiak said the new clubhouse, delivered on schedule, will provide a range of benefits to current and future users of this facility at Narellan Park.‘ I am delighted that the Narellan Jets can now enjoy the new clubhouse with much - needed meeting space and additional shelter under a covered veranda area.’

‘The project was funded through $200,000 from the Federal Government’s Community Development Grants Program and an allocation of $47,000 from Council’s Capital Works Program.

The project was within budget and the savings made will go towards assisting the club with the internal fit out of the new facility.’

‘It is essential that Council invests in these types of projects to ensure that current and future residents of the Camden LGA have access to a range of quality sporting facilities.’

‘I would like to thank the Federal Member for Macarthur, Mr Russell Matheson for his assistance with the funding for this project.

This project demonstrates that Council is working closely with the community and other levels of government to ensure the best outcomes for our ratepayers.’ Cr Symkowiak said

Development Updates Construction of Camden Council’s administration building continues with completion anticipated in the middle of the year.

The development application for the $11M Branch Library and Community Resource Centre to be located adjacent to the administration building has now Oran Park been lodged with Council. We hope to commence construction in mid-2016.

The development application for the $3.5M Town Park located in the middle of the Town Centre is currently being assessed by Council. We hope to obtain development consent shortly and commence construction in the coming months.

Preliminary works including drainage and levelling of the site are almost complete.

The Town Centre Stage 1 roads (located north of Peter Brock Drive) are now complete and residents will see that street lighting has been installed. The Town Centre roads around the administration building will not be open to the public and will remain as construction access only until the middle of the year.

2 Red Capsicums 70g (1/4 Cup) No-Fat Greek Yoghurt 2 Garlic Cloves 1 Long Red Chilli, Chopped 1 Teaspoon Sweet Paprika 1 Teaspoon Dried Oregano Leaves 1 Tablespoon Lemon Juice 2 Teaspoons Extra Virgin Olive Oil 400g Chicken Tenderloins 1 Large Red Onion, Cut Into Thin Wedges 2 Pizza Bases 80g (1 Cup) Coarsely Grated Mainland Noble White Reduced-Fat Cheddar 1 Lebanese Cucumber, Seeded, Finely Chopped Micro Coriander, To Serve

Preheat barbecue with hood on medium. Spray capsicums with oil. Cook, turning, for 15-20 minutes or until charred.

Place in a bowl and cover with plastic wrap. Stand for 5 minutes. Peel and de seed. Thickly slice 1 1/2 capsicums.

Process other half in a food processor until smooth. Place in a bowl and stir in yoghurt. Season.

Meanwhile, process garlic, chilli, paprika and oregano until coarsely chopped. Add lemon juice and oil. Process until combined. Season. Transfer to a bowl and add chicken. Marinate for 10 minutes. Chargrill, turning, for 4-5 minutes or until cooked through. Slice and keep warm.

Spray onion with oil. Chargrill, turning, for 2-3 minutes until tender.

Place pizza bases on 2 baking trays. Sprinkle with cheese.

Top with capsicum and onion. Barbecue, with hood closed, for 12-14 minutes or until base is crisp and cheese melts.

Top the pizzas with chicken, cucumber and coriander.

Drizzle with capsicum yoghurt.

Drip Feed Your Investments, and Watch Them Grow Investing in the share market can be daunting – particularly in difficult times, when share markets see-saw from one day to the next. When is the best time to invest? How much should you invest? How often? If the value of your investment plummets, should you take your money out quickly before you lose the lot or should you take advantage of the low price and buy more?

Drip feed investing (DFI) can take some of the angst out of these decisions while also ensuring that your investment continues to grow – regardless of what the share market decides to do!

What is Drip Feed Investing?

DFI is investing by instalment.

How does it work?

In very simple terms – you select an appropriate investment then drip feed that investment by investing a further, prebudgeted amount of money into it at regular intervals. You do this no matter what – if the price of your investment goes up, if it goes down, if it remains flat for months on end. Regularly feeding your investment will make it grow!

What are the benefits?

• You are always invested – and regularly investing – so it’s great for helping you achieve long-term goals like saving a deposit for a house or funding your child’s education • You can gradually buy into growth assets such as shares – which, in the longer term, are likely to give you a better return on investment than cash investments such as bank accounts • You can start with small sums • You develop a regular savings/investment habit – great to show a lender when buying a home • You can access all or part of your funds in an emergency (try selling just the bathroom of an investment property!)

• The cost of your investment averages out over time • The risks you take investing are smoothed out because you are investing gradually rather than with a large lump sum What are the risks?

When you drip feed invest into growth assets, such as shares, you take on all the inherent risks attached to those assets. In the case of shares, the value of your investment will seesaw in line with the share market – but remember, your risks will be smoothed out because you are not investing all your money at once.

You might miss out on a good buying opportunity – the key word here is ‘might’. In order to make the most money from any investment, you need to invest all your money as a lump sum when the value of the investment is at its lowest point and sell when it is at its highest. Unfortunately, even professional investors find it difficult to pick those two points.

Grants to Clean-Up and Prevent Illegal Dumping in Camden Member for Camden Chris Patterson is encouraging councils, land managers and community groups to help stop illegal dumpers in their tracks by applying for funding in the NSW Government’s third round of the Combatting Illegal Dumping Clean-Up and Prevention Grants.

Mr Patterson said $686,000 in grants funding would be available across three categories: 1. Illegal dumping clean-up and prevention projects: Grants of $50,000 – $150,000 each for local government and public land managers to clean-up and prevent illegal dumping.

2. Illegal dumping clean-up and prevention community partnerships: Grants of up to $50,000 each for community groups in partnership with councils or a public land manager to clean-up and prevent illegal dumping.

3. Gathering illegal dumping data: Grants of up to $20,000 each for councils and public land managers to collect data to determine the extent of illegal dumping.

“Illegal dumping is not only ugly but it can also cause harm to our environment and even affect our health in extreme circumstances,” Mr Patterson said.

“The NSW Government awarded more than $3 million to 52 projects in the first two rounds of the grant program. These projects have so far helped get more than 2,300 tonnes of waste and 192 tonnes of asbestos off our streets, but we can do more.

“These grants are available to help clean up existing illegal dump sites as well as install deterrents such as fences, signs and cameras to prevent dumping from occurring.”

Environment Minister Mark Speakman said the NSW government wanted to stop illegal dumping in its tracks.

The NSW Government has dedicated $58 million to tackle illegal dumping as part of the $465.7 million Waste Less Recycle More initiative.

Waste Less Recycle More is a five year program that includes funding for business recycling, managing problem wastes, new waste infrastructure, councils and programs to tackle illegal dumping and litter.
