Mount Pleasant was named the fifth-hottest neighborhood for home sales in 2016 in the united states by the real estate firm Redfin. according to Redfin, the median sale price in Mount Pleasant was $760,000 in 2015 and the median days on the market was seven. Bidding wars are considered a standard in this diverse and eclectic neighborhood.
Mount Pleasant street is the neighborhood’s commercial strip with a majority of businesses that are mom and pop stores. a farmer’s market is held saturday mornings at lamont Park. Heller’s Bakery is a staple that has been around since 1928. It offers breakfast, lunch and dinner, but its biggest draw are the sweets. Redfin recognized 16th street Heights and Woodridge as two other hot neighborhoods, among the top 10 hottest in the country, in 2016. In all three of these DC neighborhood the average sales price was greater than 100 percent of the list price.
the neighborhood, which borders adams Morgan and Columbia Heights, is known for its homey and peaceful environment. the Wardman-style townhomes tend to be larger than the rowhouses in other neighborhoods and many have the added bonus of having alley access with parking. the feeling of being in a quiet, tucked away neighborhood coupled with the proximity to the Columbia Heights Metro and Petworth Metro make for a desirable destination. aside from its metro accessibility, Mount Pleasant offers multiple bus routes and close access to Rock Creek Parkway. Mount Pleasant is in the boundary for Woodrow Wilson High school, which also adds to the rising prices. this neighborhood seems to have it all, from its highly ranked schools and tree covered streets right next to Rock Creek Park and the national Zoo to larger homes for growing families. Mount Pleasant has a rich history that stretches back to the 1727 when it was granted to James Holmead. It was named Pleasant Plains in 1750 and became part of the District when it was established in 1791. Fun fact: the neighborhood was separated from the rest of the District by rural land. which is why Mount Pleasant doesn’t quite line up with DC’s orderly street grid system. It became the District’s first streetcar suburb in the 1870s which evolved to a working-class urban neighborhood. In the 198os and 1990s affluent professional began moving into the area. Spring has arrived, and with it our favorite weekend activity – home and garden tours! The District is filled with charming homes and secret gardens that open their doors and gates this time of year to curious passers-by and intrigued industry professionals. DC has always been known as a historic city, but the monuments aren’t the city’s only hot spots with a past. Around nearly every corner are centuries-old townhouses and secluded, lush gardens, rich with stories of owners and visitors past. DC architecture is iconic in its diversity. From the minimalist Federal row houses of Capital Hill, to the grand Victorians of Dupont, to the glamourous Beaux Arts properties of Kalorama, the District has historic homes that covers centuries of architectural styles. When you’ve had your fill of the museums on the Mall, enrich your mind in a different way with a walking tour of DC homes. Of course, warmer weather brings beautiful blooms, and gardens are the perfect way to enjoy the District’s spring flora. Many historic neighborhoods of DC host tours to highlight local gardens. Check out the Georgetown Garden Tour on May 7, the Shepherd Park Garden Tour on May 22, and the Brookland House & Garden Tour on June 5. Kid-friendly and sun-filled, garden tours make for a relaxed weekend activity. A personal favorite is the Hillwood Estate. This Georgianstyle mansion was owned by Marjorie Merriweather Post, who transformed the property into a breathtaking home of opulence and class, paying homage to French and Russian arts and culture.
