OUR MISSION The mission of the Department of General Services is to build, maintain, and sustain the District of Columbia’s real estate portfolio, which includes more than 191 million square feet of state-of-the-art facilities in Washington, DC. This work allows the agency to foster economic viability, environmental stewardship, and equity across all eight wards.
DIVISIONS DGS is a District of Columbia government agency comprised of more than 700 skilled employees working dynamically through six divisions to create new, and manage existing, District-owned and leased properties. Our people hold expertise in the areas of architecture, design, and construction, building management and maintenance, real estate management, and security at more than 840 real properties across the city. PARTNERS As the District’s ‘implementing’ agency for partner-agencies with a need for expanded facility space – be it a new educational trade academy, creating a new daycare center, or identifying properties to install and manage a solar panel array – DGS collaborates with the partner-agency team to successfully realize that project – from design concept to handing over the keys.
