I’ve seen people enter the room and do a double take because it’s such a great space and they weren’t expecting it. It has French doors that open to the pool terrace and it just feels really bright and spacious, yet it’s the perfect place for the family to hang out together.
A WORD FROM THE CURRENT OWNER Alex Walworth The Price House is completely unique because it combines the outward appearance of a true Georgian colonial home and the inside of an updated, spacious home with large rooms and a great flow for entertaining. My favorite room is always the kitchen because that is where everyone ends up congregating, no matter how elegant the party. The kitchen is incredible for family and larger social gatherings. I designed it so that I could cook while entertaining people who were sitting at the island.
The house is well-situated to the back yard and the pool. The terrace overlooks two acres and another five acres of permanent easement that has beautiful trees and plantings. It’s incredibly private, yet is located in a neighborhood. It’s the best of both country and suburban life.
from the cuisine to the incredible west-facing sunsets. We are only a block from the Bay and the sunsets are always amazing. It’s like being on vacation all the time. It was love at first sight. I knew it would be a tremendous place to raise our children. They grew up sailing, boating and playing golf. We were able to easily take them to Washington to see plays, try new restaurants and go to the museums.
It’s lovely to live in a home that has so much history. The house is well-known in the area because it was actually a navigational signpost for ships coming up the Chesapeake Bay when there wasn’t anything else on this part of Kent Island. We worked really hard to keep the character of the house, with six working brick fireplaces and old wooden beams. For example, we kept the wooden beams in the kitchen that date from the mid-1800’s, and the fireplace is brick which is from this century, but looks old. We combined that with modern white cabinets and a huge granite island. We put a new roof on the house eight years ago and cedar shingle on the main part of the house but changed the back addition to dark brown metal. It’s subtle, but adds some depth to the look of the house, especially from the back terrace and yard.
As I write this I’m sitting on the terrace by the pool, watching a family of deer running through the back yard. I can hear all kinds of birds tweeting, and see the monarch butterflies. The nature here is absolutely incredible, and when you live in a house that is situated like this one on Kent Island, you’re living in an elegant kind of nature park that is also on the water. It’s unlike any other place, yet close to all the benefits of Annapolis and Washington.
The access to the Chesapeake Bay is the greatest asset to the house, without a doubt. The Bay infuses everything on Kent Island,
