AI Trade Mission Brochure

Page 1

AI is developing at an extraordinary pace. It could be the single biggest lever to deliver the missions set out in the Government's Plan For Change, with fast and sustainable economic growth foremost among them. The UK’s Artificial Intelligence Opportunities Action Plan, launched at the start of 2025, sets out a bold, forward-looking agenda: to train the UK’s workforce for jobs of the future; diffuse AI across the economy and public services; enhance productivity and opportunity; and embrace the transformational impact of the technology on everyday life.

Since the early beginnings of Alan Turing’s algorithms, the UK has been a global leader in artificial intelligence. Third largest in the world after only the US and China, the UK AI market was valued at $92 billion in 2024 and boasts over 3,000 AI companies and 60,000 full-time employees in AI related roles. More broadly, the UK’s tech ecosystem, driven by an enduring spirit of innovation, is now valued at over $1trillion and holds more unicorns than France and Germany combined. With four of the world’s top ten universities, the second largest number of Nobel Laureates, and digital clusters spread across every UK Nation and Region, our R&D prowess, deep talent pool, and geographical diversity make the UK’s tech sector one of our great success stories.

It is my pleasure to introduce our exceptional cohort of fourteen AI companies, carefully selected by our team at the UK’s Department for Business and Trade to showcase their ideas and capabilities at South by Southwest 2025 in Austin, Texas. The diversity of our delegation is a testament to the breadth and depth of the United Kingdom’s AI expertise: from London to Llandysul, Belfast to Bath, and Cambridge to Culham, these companies are creating innovative AI applications across space, energy, climate, law and more.

SXSW is unrivalled in its unique blend of innovation, tech and creativity, and its truly global reach makes it the perfect opportunity to display the best of UK AI to an audience of innovators, partners, investors and leaders in the tech community. UK House, a mainstay of SXSW having long showcased our digital and creative industries, will this year be home to our cohort of companies at the frontier of AI, and the forefront of building a modern Britain. We welcome you to visit us, and to enjoy our slice of South by Southwest’s festivities.

The UK Tech Industry

The UK tech industry is a key growth sector, growing at a faster rate than the UK economy and maintaining its lead as one of the world’s premier locations for tech of all kinds.

The UK is the world’s third largest tech economy. It has more tech unicorns than France and Germany combined. Valued at over $1 trillion, it follows the United States and China as a global tech superpower.

Driven by an enduring spirit of innovation, the UK truly is the Unicorn Kingdom, offering all the right ingredients for tech success and growth: world-class talent, R&D capability, pro-innovation regulation and a focus on global expansion.

The UK has produced 135 billion-dollar companies and is home to a further 258 startups on potential future unicorn track: more than double any European neighbour (source: Dealroom).

The UK attracted the largest share of US VC foreign investments in 2023

Source: Pitchbook

The combined value of UK tech companies founded since 2000 is now £540 billion, after the biggest year-on-year increase since 2013/14. The UK is more attractive to international investors than ever, with 63% of tech investment in 2020 coming from overseas, up from 50% in 2016.

The UK government has invested over $2.8 billion in AI since 2014 and are partnering with the US in promoting AI safety, in April signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to work together to develop tests for the most advanced artificial intelligence (AI) models. The partnership will see the US and the UK align their scientific approaches and accelerate and rapidly iterate robust suites of evaluations for AI models, systems and agents.

Meet the UK companies

DeepFlow takes a human-model-agnostic approach to workflows. Their proprietary ‘delegation zone’ technology dynamically passes slices of work between people, models, and agents – enabling someone in your team to finish work GenAI is stuck on, while powering a chain of models to complete 70% of a workflow before it even reaches a human. Simply put: the right slice of work, to the right worker - human or machine - in lightning time.

While 92% of Fortune 500 companies use models, there is a less than 1% shift in holistic company productivity. DeepFlow improves this to 200%. Unlike traditional tools that treat AI as a binary solution, DeepFlow’s approach integrates AI and human workflows seamlessly, unlocking efficiencies that are already possible but largely untapped. Current “calling” of AI relies on one employee calling one model to do one task in one conversation. DeepFlow’s blended approach gifts organisations the speed and output gains of models and agents, while retaining the alignment, nuance, and adaptability of humans. By optimizing these intersections, DeepFlow is redefining what’s possible for team and company productivity.
